Stone walls warmed by the afternoon sun, a shimmer of olive leaves in the breeze and the sight of colourful agapanthuses near the swimming pool - Maison Barguelonne is a graceful country retreat that embraces simplicity and style in equal measure. Set in a small rural hamlet and surrounded by open countryside, this detached stone house offers a laid-back escape for families or friends seeking unspoilt French charm with a contemporary edge.

Inside, the house has been thoughtfully renovated, its character left intact while adding fresh touches of chic comfort. Exposed stone walls, wooden floors and soft neutral tones create a calm and airy mood throughout. The kitchen, contemporary yet homely, flows onto an elevated terrace, a glorious setting for slow breakfasts or long al-fresco meals - in the evening, warm light bathes the terrace as the day fades into dusk. Meanwhile, the gorgeous living room invites relaxed gatherings with an open fireplace, Smart TV and a quiet corner for reading or working.

Three bedrooms sleep 6 to 7 guests alongside two shower rooms, offering flexible accommodation for families or small groups. One of the pretty bedrooms features three single beds, or you may choose one of the two doubles with king-sized beds.

Outside, the 10-metre swimming pool is framed by a wide stone terrace, partly shaded, with loungers and a characterful stone bench. In the garden, hammocks sway gently and bistro tables invite moments of pause. A vaulted wine cellar with barrel tables adds a playful touch for tastings, and there’s badminton on hand for some easy fun.

The house is a 5km drive from the village of Sauzet, with its bakery and grocery shop. A little further afield lie the bastide villages of Montcuq and Lauzerte, and the historic town of Cahors, famed for its 14th-century Pont Valentré and famous Malbec wine. The wider Lot region rewards explorers with vineyards, medieval towns and meandering rivers.

Maison Barguelonne promises a stay where simplicity is beautiful, nature is close and every detail feels quietly considered.
