Set within a gated mature garden with fruit and olive trees, this elegant and welcoming French maison welcomes up to 8 guests and is perfectly located for exploring so many wonders of Provence. The house is on the edge of a tiny Vaucluse village with a medieval château and stunning views towards Mont Ventoux, not far from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and the landscapes of the Luberon.
Villa La Roque is beautiful – you can tell the owners work in interior design and floristry with their great eye for aesthetic detail. The living and dining area is stylish with modern features alongside classic furnishings whilst the attractive open-plan kitchen is superbly equipped. Pretty French windows open out to the terrace (made from local stone) and swimming pool.
Across the air-conditioned upper floor there are four bedrooms and four bathrooms, making Villa La Roque ideal for a family or small group of friends. Three doubles (two with king-size beds) feature an en suite with Italian shower, then there is a lovely twin and separate family bathroom. Everything has been designed so thoughtfully with character, charm and modern comfort in mind at all times.
The enclosed garden is such a wonderful place to relax – you will always be able to find a shady spot for your morning coffee or evening glass of rosé whilst the olive trees and swathes of summer lavender add to the Provençal ambience. The swimming pool is simply gorgeous and can be heated on request (for a supplement) during certain months. Who will be lucky enough to chill out on the rather elegant day bed?
As evening nears, enjoy a little stroll around the local village which is perched on a promontory with stunning vistas of the Vaucluse plains and famous Mont Ventoux. Saint Didier is just 4km away for small shops and restaurant terraces by the village’s plane trees or head to Pernes-les-Fontaines to spot as many fountains as you can and stock up on a wealth of delicious fruit and vegetables at the Wednesday evening Farmer’s market (this area is known for cherries, herbs, olives, strawberries, melons and more).
Elsewhere, visit the Sunday morning brocante in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, canoe along the Sorgue River near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, appreciate the lavender fields of Sault and admire the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Avignon. The captivating scenery of the Luberon is also close by – the perched village of Gordes is 22km by car.
Discover the gorgeous countryside by walking, hiking, mountain biking and horse-riding. Keen cyclists will be familiar with this region – the challenging ascent of Mont Ventoux starts in Bédoin, around 21km away, or follow simpler routes passing fruit orchards, vineyards, olive groves and other iconic landscapes of Provence.

In the Vaucluse department, Villa La Roque is within gated grounds just outside a tiny medieval village close to Pernes-les-Fontaines, Carpentras and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Fly into Avignon Airport (32km), Marseille (78km) or Nimes (93km) whilst fast trains from Paris arrive at Gare d’Avignon TGV (38km).
You can walk to the little village in a few minutes – after admiring the medieval château dating back to the 11th century, take time to appreciate the stunning natural surroundings from lookout points (the village is perched on a rock) including vistas of Mont Ventoux. There are some lovely walking paths from the village as well as hiking, mountain biking and horse-riding nearby.
The nearest restaurants, a grocery store and bakery can be found in Saint Didier (4km), another pretty village with beautiful houses and gorgeous surroundings. The larger Pernes-les-Fontaines (7.5km) is a joy to explore with its many fountains, 17th to 18th century houses and atmospheric Saturday morning market. This region is known for its fruit and vegetable production – look out for melons, strawberries, cherries, peaches, olives, grapes, apples, pears and other seasonal delights. The Wednesday evening Farmer’s market is also not to be missed from April to mid-October.
Experienced cyclists will love being so close to the foothills of Mont Ventoux and iconic routes of the Tour de France. Bédoin (21km), a mecca for cyclists, is a good place to start the challenging ascent to the iconic mountain or you may prefer to just soak up the ambience of this attractive town. Other cycling routes up Mont Ventoux start from Malaucène (28km) and Sault (42km) – Sault is also loved for its lavender fields and distilleries.
L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (14km) is a delightful town to visit with its pretty café terraces (some by the river), little antique stores and Sunday morning market including one of France’s most famous brocantes. Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (11.5km) is known for its incredible natural beauty, hiking trails and canoeing along the Sorgue River whilst there is a tree-top activity centre near Lagnes.
Avignon (34km) is another fantastic day out with its UNESCO World Heritage sites. You are also well located for reaching the captivating landscapes of the Luberon – Gordes and Ménerbes are just half an hour by car with Bonnieux and Roussillon just a little further.
