Set in magnificent gardens with a private swimming pool, embrace the romanticism of this Normandy château, perfectly located for visiting Monet’s Giverny gardens, the Forêt de Lyons, Rouen and even the great city of Paris.

Château Eure is for guests seeking authenticity and tradition in an elegant château which exudes historic charm. Step through its doors to be greeted with inviting living and dining spaces and a stylish French kitchen, all with pretty windows framing the views of the glorious grounds. Wander up to the top two floors for six doubles, a twin and four delightfully old-fashioned bathrooms. Each bedroom has its own unique character with a timeless blend of old and new furnishings. In most of the rooms you can peep through the windows and gaze out towards bucolic Vexin landscapes.

It's wonderful to have a swimming pool in the gardens of this impressive Normandy abode and the pool house’s summer kitchen is ideal for preparing al-fresco feasts for family and friends. Take a stroll through the formal gardens with its hedges and vines, find a bench for a moment of peace, then join loved ones on the lawn whilst admiring the façade of your handsome French château.

There is so much to see during your time at Château Eure. Experience the Wednesday morning market in one of the nearby villages selling local fruit, vegetables, honey, produits du terroir and fish straight from the boats of Dieppe, and look out for the annual brocante if staying in September. The twice-weekly market in Gisors, the historic capital of the Normandy-Vexin region, is another gem, combined with a visit to the town’s 11th century fortress and Rue de Vienne’s half-timbered houses and shops.

Spend time in Normandy’s largest forest, Forêt de Lyons, and venture to the gorgeous village of Lyons-la-Forêt, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, then admire the roses in the famous village of Gerberoy which has inspired so many artists over the years. Of course, one of the main draws of this region is Monet’s gardens in Giverny, reached in only half an hour by car.

Other must-sees include Château Gaillard in Les Andelys, the gastronomic restaurants and galleries of historic Rouen and maybe even the Pays de Caux beaches near Dieppe. The most adventurous guests could even head into Paris for a day out exploring its museums, parks and grands magasins before returning to the tranquillity of your beautiful Normandy château.

  • It has probably been standing for over 100 years, which means it's full of historic value and charm but it may also have one or two quirks!
  • Some of the decor and furnishings may not be brand new, but that should not detract from your holiday experience in this unique setting that allows you to take a step back in time!

In the Eure department of Normandy, this romantic château is around 85km north-west of Paris, perfectly located for visiting Monet’s Giverny gardens, the historic city of Rouen and the beautiful Forêt de Lyons, Normandy’s largest forest.

A small rural village only 1km away is an interesting place to stroll around with its 19th century church and old houses. Amenities can be found in a larger village, just over 3km by car, including a choice of supermarkets, and a small Wednesday morning market sells local honey, seasonal fruit, vegetables and other produits du terroir as well as fresh fish straight from Dieppe. This village’s annual brocante usually takes place over two days in September.

The historic capital of the Normandy-Vexin region is Gisors (16km), a small, characterful town with a rich heritage including an impressive fortress that William the Conqueror ordered to be built in the late 11th century. Rue de Vienne is especially attractive with its half-timbered houses and pretty shops and visit on a Friday or Saturday for the town’s atmospheric Normandy market. To the south of Gisors, look out for canoeing opportunities along the Epte River near Saint-Clair-sur-Epte (12km).

Another must-see is the gorgeous village of Lyons-la-Forêt (20km), set in the Forêt de Lyons, a forest spanning nearly 11,000 acres, ideal for hiking, biking and other outdoor adventures. The flower-filled village, home to charming cafes, restaurants and an 18th century covered market, is officially classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’.

A little further north, enchanting Gerberoy (40km) is a wonderful day out, in the Picardy region of France and another one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. As well as 17th century cottages and the garden of artist Henri Le Sidaner, the village is also known for its beautiful roses – the yearly Fête des Roses takes place in early/mid June.

Pre-book tickets to visit Monet’s famous house in Giverny, around half an hour away and usually open from spring to autumn. One of France’s most popular attractions, admire the gardens which are featured in so many of Claude Monet’s works, then head to the small museum, Musée Vernon, to learn more about the great artist and impressionist movement.

Rouen can be reached in under an hour with its gastronomic restaurants, galleries, botanical gardens and brilliant museums including the incredible Musée des Beaux-Arts. Alternatively, for a day out by the sea, continue on towards the maritime town of Dieppe (95km) or the white cliffs of Étretat (140km).

Keen cyclists may also be familiar with the former spa town of Forges-les-Eaux (45km), located on the green-way cycling route, Avenue Verte, between London and Paris (also popular with walkers and horse-riders). One branch passes between Saint-Germer-de-Fly and Gisors, a 30km route passing glorious landscapes and wooded hills of the Epte valley.

The grand city of Paris is yet another fantastic trip – head to Gisors and catch a train to Gare Saint-Lazare, taking 80-90 minutes, then spend the day exploring the parks, museums, sights and arrondissements of France’s magnificent capital city.
