Overview
Featured in The Sunday Times as one of Europe’s Top 50 villas.
Manoir Gascon is not just a villa, it’s an experience… Imagine driving down a quiet country lane in rural Armagnac, then down a 150-metre drive, and arriving at a typical 17th Century Gascon manor house, surrounded by 17 acres of gardens, woodlands and organic hay fields. Old stone walls around a formal courtyard…an original pigeonnier…a wisteria covered arbor…an ancient wooden verandah…gardens dotted with lavender…
Manoir Gascon is designed to thrill the senses and to fully transport you to this quintessentially charming part of South West France.
The manoir is beautifully furnished with contemporary pieces, antiques and art. Special care has been taken to maintain the original and charming patina. Here it’s all about warmth, character and authenticity. The two historic ‘salons’ are at the heart of the house and perfect places to gather at any time of the year. Outdoors, two charming dining areas set the scene beautifully for lavish alfresco meals of foie gras, duck, cheese and other local specialties, and a heated swimming pool and games barn keep everyone entertained.
The setting is private and rural and yet a vibrant Gascon village is just a short walk away or bike ride along a country lane. Besides a restaurant-café at its centre, it also has a bakery, butcher, pharmacy and even a tennis club (rackets provided back at the manoir) as well as a striking red bullring which is over one hundred years old and the stage for the traditional ‘Course Landaise’.
This is The Gers, the heart of Gascony, Musketeers, foie gras and Grand Armagnac country. This is the real France where guests can immerse themselves in authentic fortified villages, market towns, historic and cultural attractions and some of the best food and wine in the world.
If you need a large supermarket or other restaurants you need only travel to Cazaubon (12km), Nogaro (12km) or Eauze (20km) and there are some great weekly markets in Eauze, Barbotan-les-Thermes and Vic Fezensac. Other typical local towns and villages worth visiting are La Bastide d’Armagnac, Aire sur L'adour and Euginie les Bains. The area is also famous for the historical racing event held at the Nogaro circuit as well as the biggest jazz festival in Europe held at Marciac. Even Bordeaux, Toulouse and Pau (vintage motor racing in May) are within easy reach.
What you should know…
- Wi-Fi is available in the kitchen only
- The local village is less than one kilometre away along a quiet country lane, however a car is recommended for exploring
This home is a part of our Great Value and Heritage Collection!
This is a historic home, and as such:
- It has probably been standing for over 100 years, which means it's full of historic value and charm but it may also have one or two quirks!
- Some of the decor and furnishings may not be brand new, but that should not detract from your holiday experience in this unique setting that allows you to take a step back in time!

Location
About the surrounding area of Manoir GasconThe local village is just a short walk along a country lane from Manoir Gascon. A vibrant village with a bakery, butchers, local pharmacy and a very welcoming restaurant-café where you can go for a morning coffee, lunch or evening meal. One particularly striking highlight of the village is the bull-ring, over one hundred years old, where you can watch the ‘Course Landaise’, a slightly different version of Spanish bullfighting.
The village has tennis courts that you can book via the local Tabac, just let them know where you are staying to make use of the family membership. Golf lovers can play at Golf de Guinlet (20km) or various other courses in the region and cyclists will appreciate the opportunities to explore the beautiful area by bike, a popular pastime in Gers and Gascony.
On a Thursday be sure to visit Eauze (18km), the capital of Armagnac, where you will find a glorious market selling fruit, vegetables, cheese from the Pyrenees, seafood from nearby Atlantic coast and local sausage made with figs, nuts and herbs as well as the famous ‘Eau de Vie’. If you have a taste for Armagnac, there are plenty of opportunities to visit local producers and guided tours as well as tastings can be arranged.
Formula One fans must visit Nogaro (16km) where you can hire racing cars for the day to drive around the track.
Other noteworthy villages and towns in the area include the thermal spas at Barbotan Les Thermes (12km), a thirteenth century fortified village, Le Bastide d’Armagnac (40km) and Marciac (50km), home to a well established jazz festival.
If you do wish to venture towards the coast, then the Atlantic coast is within a two hour drive – the area is a paradise for surfers, especially in places such as Biarritz (150km) and further south, or you can explore the beautiful sand dunes and pine forests of the more remote parts of this coastline further north.

Region
A relatively new addition to France, the Midi-Pyrénées was created to surround the cultural capital of Toulouse in the late 1970s. You might think that its relative youth would mean the Midi-Pyrénées is short on character or identity, but remember, this is France we’re talking about – the whole country is steeped in history and tradition. Encompassing parts of Gascony, Languedoc, the Gers and several others, you’ll get a varied slice of the whole French experience here, not least if you stay at one of our beautiful chateaux in the Midi-Pyrénées! And if you want to discover the best of what the region has to offer, our Midi-Pyrénées travel guide is here to show you where to go, what to eat and how you can make the best of your break with some amazing activities.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThere are so many activities for kids of all ages in this area of France with the amazing countryside so accessible. As well as long family walks, horse-riding and plenty of cycling routes, Midi-Pyrénées also offers a wealth of exciting activities to keep the kids busy!
Head to the Parc aux Rapaces, 42km away, to encounter 36 different species of birds of prey! This 5 hectare park will surely delight little animal lovers with fascinating performances with the birds. And only half an hour away is La Ferme au Galauzoue, an authentic Gascon farm with many different types of animals and horse riding available.
Other exciting day trips include a visit to the fortified village of Larressingle, the ‘little Carcassonne of the Gers’. Here you can immerse yourself in the history of Gascony discovering the medieval chateau and church. There is even a Medieval Siege Camp where children and adults alike can dress up in period costumes as princesses or knights and learn about the artillery and weapons used during this period!
The charming village of Lupiac, 40km away, is the birthplace of the most famous musketeer - Charles de Batz de Castelmore, the figure who inspired the mythical D'Artagnan of Alexandre Dumas' works! At the D’Artagnan museum you can enjoy an audio guide as well as game leaflets for children. There are many documents and reproductions of works evoking the real history of d'Artagnan as well as his historic context.

Manoir Gascon is an amazing house in a lovely location. Having visited a fair number of houses in France over a nearly 20 year period it ranks right at the top. The owners were a delightful contact for any concerns and most welcoming. Of course they come from the best part of the world! Delightful!

Very fully equipped to spacious country house standards - plainly a labour of love. Situation quiet and well placed. Replete with indoor and outdoor sporting gear: darts, table tennis, bicycles, badminton, boules, large pool. All spacious well chosen and well built. A admirable project by a knowledgeable perfectionist.

A relaxing, rustic but luxurious holiday
We had an absolutely superb stay in Manoir Gascon. We were a large family group with a range of ages from 10 - 75, but the manor house catered for everyone with its ample reception rooms, games barn and pool.
The manor house is so beautiful and has lot of French rustic charm, but was also very peaceful so we had a truly relaxing stay drinking wine by the pool!
The village is a short walk down a country lane and we had a delicious Sunday lunch in the village hotel.
We hope to stay at Manoir Gascon again some time soon! -

Thank You!
Five years ago, my brother was diagnosed with colon cancer. We decided to make a goal with something to look forward to. He said "let's do a trip to France!"
Well, we finally made it but the pressure was on to find just the right place to relax and enjoy each other. Manoir Gascon was the perfect place. It was beyond our expectations and any photo on the internet. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with the best of everything - Sheets, soap, dishes, lounge chairs - it is all exquisite! can't wait to come back! -
Great house!
Wonderful stay in this cosy house. We very much enjoyed the beautiful spaces of the house. Thank you so much for your hospitality.
-
Great for kids!
The house is so well equipped for all of us. The amount for the children to do was amazing. Football, table tennis, cycling, darts, swimming, PS3. Also, extremely thankful for the baby paraphernalia!

Lovely holiday
An absolute dream holiday! Such a beautiful house, lovely countryside and the most relaxing time. Thank you so much!
-
The most marvellous time
Thank you so very much for letting us rent out your stunning house! We had the most marvellous time. Your furniture was so comfortable and I loved all of your paintings too - have made a few notes of some of the artists for my gallery here in Dublin! The kitchen too was so well equipped and it was great to have multiple indoor and outdoor areas for children and adults alike so that everyone had enough space and peace and quiet. Thanks too for the excellent local recommendations. You're so lucky to have lovely Patrick and Hotel de Commerce on your doorstep - many a fine lunch we had there, as well as excellent meals at La Baside in Barbotan les Thermes and simple pizza in the stunning square in La Bastide d'Armagnac.
-
More than I was hoping for
I am writing to thank you for our wonderful holiday at your gorgeous property. Manoir Gascon is a home from home and everything and more than I imagined and was hoping for. The house, the setting, the furniture and art are all stunning. Thank you.

We had such a fantastic time at Manoir Gascon
The pictures on the website don't do it justice! We were all blown away by the house and the pool and the beautiful grounds. We barely left the house as we loved it so much although we all loved the Hotel du Commerce in Estang too. We had coffee there every morning and dinner twice.
Rosie was great and really helpful as well as an excellent babysitter. Almost as soon as we arrived we were talking about trying to come back! -
Lucky to be back next year!
We loved staying at your wonderful home - we had a heavenly time and we are already hoping we are lucky enough to come again next year. The weather was perfect a couple of cooler days which were very welcome as reprieve from the heat.
