When staying at Le Logis Du Général, you are not only enjoying a beautiful and elegant home but also becoming part of a remarkable 18th-century estate surrounded by exquisite gardens and over 100 hectares of parkland in the Vendée. Once home to a general during the Vendée wars of the French Revolution, the estate is now a classified national historic monument, with an impressive château just a short walk away.

The property features ten bedrooms, nine within the elegant main house and adjoining annexe, plus a tenth in a simple neighbouring studio. Inside, the interiors combine historic charm with comfort, showcasing fine furnishings, antique details and ornate décor carefully preserved by the owners.

Outside, beautifully maintained gardens with rose-filled borders and sweeping lawns provide a peaceful setting. Guests can relax by the heated swimming pool and pool house, complete with a kitchen, long dining table, Wi-Fi and music system. Activities include a private tennis court, billiards, table tennis, badminton and volleyball, or simply exploring the estate’s woodland and ponds.

Nearby villages offer bakeries and markets, while the Atlantic coast’s sandy beaches, charming seaside towns and the island of Noirmoutier are all within easy reach for memorable day trips.

The accommodation is spread across the main house, the annexe and a studio, each with a separate entrance.
The tenth bedroom is a studio with a living area, kitchenette and bunkbeds.
The vast estate includes a stunning château (seen in the photo) which is no longer in use and ponds, which are mainly fenced off (child supervision is still recommended).
Please note that there is a mandatory cost of €1500 (2025) per week to be paid in addition to the rental price to cover maintenance and services (please see T&Cs tab). This fee will increase to €2000 per week in 2026.

Le Logis Du Général sits within a beautiful family estate in the Vendée, surrounded by elegant gardens and over 100 hectares of parkland, woodland and ponds where guests are free to explore. The nearest village is just 2.5km away, offering bakeries, a supermarket and a restaurant, while the larger town of Challans (9km) features a charming covered market and a wider range of shops.

Around 30km away, the Atlantic coast offers broad sandy beaches at Saint-Jean-de-Monts, perfect for family days by the sea, cycling along the promenade or enjoying water sports such as sailing and surfing. The seaside town of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is known for its lively harbour and delicious grilled sardines.

For a memorable excursion, visit the island of Noirmoutier, famous for its pine-fringed beaches, rock pools and fresh seafood. Inland, the tranquil wetlands of the Marais Poitevin offer boat trips and scenic cycling routes, while the vibrant city of Nantes is within easy reach for culture, markets and excellent dining.

Getting to and around

From the Loire estuary to cosmopolitan La Rochelle and historic Saintes, this part of the Atlantic coast and its surroundings attract visitors who come for the region’s superb beaches, charming market towns, delicious oysters and rich history.

Starting just south of the fine city of Nantes, the Marais wetlands are a paradise for keen bird watchers and the perfect place for peaceful nature walks, cycle rides and canoeing through the marshes. Then there’s the blue-flag beaches, seaside resorts and fishing villages of the Côte de Jade alongside walking paths, cycling trails and horse-riding opportunities. The sunsets along this part of the coastline are especially idyllic.

The Atlantic island of Noirmoutier-en-l'Île is loved for its vast beaches, sand dunes and watersports. Admire its incredible landscapes, dig for shellfish, learn about the history of the island’s salt production and cycle to your hearts content passing historic sites, forests, salt marshes and coast – stop off for oysters en route for an authentic island experience.

Back to the mainland, discover characterful markets in the likes of Machecoul, Challans and La Roche-sur-Yon with Vendée specialities including beef, pork, Challans poultry, oysters, mussels, sardines, salt, white beans and a great range seasonal fruit and vegetables.

The Atlantic beaches of the Vendée coastline are wonderful, ideal for surfing and other water-based adventures, many backed by endless nature and woodland. La Tranche-sur-Mer has earned its ‘Famille Plus’ designation with its blue-flag beach, attractive promenade and family-friendly activities. For a change of scene, explore Le Marais Poitevin by boat and appreciate it’s magnificent natural surroundings -it's known as the ‘Green Venice’,

Puy du Fou is another highlight of this region, often considered one of the best theme parks in the world with its immersive adventures, period villages and spectacular shows.

Further south, passing La Rochelle and the wonderful islands of Île de Ré and Île d'Oléron, head inland in the Charente Maritime and spend time in the historic town of Saint-Jean-d'Angely with its Abbaye Royale, a UNESCO World Heritage site and part of the Santiago de Compostela route.

Historians will also adore the 11th century Abbaye aux Dames in Saintes. The city’s old quarter is a joy to explore whilst the Roman amphitheatre and Basilique Saint Eutrope de Saintes, another UNESCO World Heritage site, are a must-see during your time. End your day with a cruise along the Charente, a picturesque river that continues east towards Cognac, Jarnac and the vibrant city of Angoulême.
