The house is situated in a stunning hamlet in the midst of vineyards and farming land. In the summer the sunflowers appear in the surrounding fields and it really is a sight to see. With all amenities at your disposal you can really relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of day to day life.
You'll instantly feel at home in this clean, comfortable house. La Maison des Fleurs provides luxury quality towels, sheets, goose down blankets and pillows, all the amenities you need for a relaxing retreat. Most of the bedrooms are equipped with flat screen TVs with built in DVD players. Other amenities include Bose speakers both inside and outside the house, a games room on the first floor with pool table, wood burner and 40" TV and DVD player.
The house also has a wonderful bistro style kitchen that has been named Le Bistrot Pierre featuring a Miele dishwasher and Brittania cooking range. There are also Bose speakers and a CD player so you can play your choice of music whilst preparing food and congregating in the kitchen. Le Bistrot Pierre also has a fantastic enamel double log burning stove which heats up the whole house in the winter months. Next door to the kitchen is our house utility room which offers a large pantry, Smeg fridge freezer as well as a washing machine and microwave.
Above Le Bistrot Pierre is a mezzanine room which can be used as a bedroom with double bed, wardrobe and other elegant furniture.
The most relaxing room in the house is the Drawing room and which has been named this room the Edgar Degas Boudoir because of the fine collection of Dagas Art on the walls. This room also offers a Bose sound system, plasma screen TV/DVD as well as a large open Charantais style fireplace with log burner which is a lovely place to spend those long summer evenings.
Also on the ground floor is a stunning hall and family bathroom with a roll top bath. The house has 2 staircases. The first set of stairs leads to the mezzanine room above the kitchen and 2 other bedrooms and bathroom with shower.
The second set of stairs start from the Drawing room/Lounge and leads to 2 bedrooms - one twin and one double with a Jack and Jill style bathroom which can be accessed by both bedrooms. On this floor there is also a games room with pool table, leather L shaped sofa, 40inch TV and DVD player and log burner. Another great room to relax with friends or family with views across the sunflower fields.
There's also a hot tub, which was installed in 2018 and is a real treat!
Take advantage of some of the outdoor attractions:
- Screened deck
- Lean to sun shade
- Weber barbecue
- Half acre paddock, ideal for rounders, cricket and boules
Spend an afternoon curled up on one of the sun loungers with a good book in the beautiful private garden; or choose one of the many outdoor activities the area has to offer.
Located in the Cognac, Saintes and Saint Jean D'angely triangle, all no longer than a 30 minute drive away. If you have a passion for good wines and cognac or the local "Pineau" you will be spoilt for choice with the vineyards and distilleries located around the house. Cognac has the world famous Remy Martin and Hennessy distilleries which offer tours from Spring through to Autumn.
The coast is a 40 minute drive away and the marvellous beaches of the west coast of France can be discovered. La Rochelle and Ile de Re are two fabulous places to visit no more than 1 hour from the house. The west coast is renowned for the abundance oysters and seafood and you will have a wonderful meal looking out to the sea with a lovely crisp glass of wine and Moules Frites!
If you want to go further afield you can drive over to the Medoc and tour the wine region and visit the wonderful Chateaus or have a day out in Bordeaux.
Matha is the nearest village to La Maison des Fleurs just a few minutes in the car and offers bakeries, butchers, supermarkets, and various other shops as well as places to eat. There's also an outdoor swimming pool open during the summer months in Matha. The surrounding local villages offer an abundance of markets which take place every day. Details of markets and recommended shops and restaurants in the area will be detailed in the guide to the house.

How long have you owned the property?
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The charm of the hamlet it is situated in and the wonderful garden
For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do? Go to Saint Martin, Ile de Re
Really eat? The Oysters
Really see? The Dunes of Pilat near Arcachon. Amazing!
Lastly, what insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Visit a vineyard in Les Touches Perigny which is very near to the house and purchase some bottles of Chante allouette. It is made in the same way as champagne but it costs a fraction of the price. There will be details about the vineyard at the house. Sample the local 'Pineau', the little brother of Cognac, just minutes from the house.
We had a wonderful family holiday. The house is absolutely beautiful; tastefully and charmingly furnished; and equipped with everything you need. we really did unwind and relax - the hammocks were great!
Thank you for everything!!!
What can we say! What a beautiful house you have! We have all had the most amazing and relaxing time in this fantastic house which catered to every need of every member of our party! After a long drive from Spain for us and Guernsey for the other family, it was fantastic to relax in these beautiful surroundings and of course made even better that we could both bring our dogs. What a time they have had running in the fields chasing hares! Thank you for sharing your house with us!
Had the pleasure of visiting, the photos simply can't do it justice! It's simply stunning and a great location too. Whoever books will not be disappointed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your lovely house. The weather was incredibly hot and we really appreciated the coolness of the house, the electric fans at night, and the many shady spots in the garden. It was so relaxing and great to have so much space to enjoy. (Gill, 19th-26th August 2016)
An excellent holiday in a fabulous place
I just wanted to say what a fabulous place you have and how much we enjoyed our stay. The house is really lovely and very well equipped. It was comfortable and so peaceful. As you say, the sunflowers add to the attraction. We found your ice cream parlour much to the children's delight and used your Boulanger - great recommendations. It has been an excellent holiday in a fabulous house. (Jan, 5th-12th August 2016)
