Overview of Domaine Fabriges

What Oliver loves…

  • There’s loads to do at this French luxury chateau: a dip in the heated pool, night tennis under the floodlights or friendly competition in the games room.
  • Relax with a glass of wine from the house cellar.
  • The new pizza oven and BBQ area is perfect for warm summer evenings.

What you should know…

  • The chef is compulsory—no self-catering—but he’s one of the best, and you’ll love the food. Let yourself be pampered!
  • The house is fully staffed, but they completely respect your privacy and stay in an outbuilding. They are the kindest people and will make your stay even better.

Domaine Fabriges, a luxury holiday property in the Lot, sits on 75 acres of grounds with beautiful landscaped gardens, 2 fenced ponds, a large wood, a plane tree avenue and a children’s play area. Relax on several terraces or under a leafy pagoda. While the children enjoy the 15m swimming pool constructed from Quercy stone with a charming waterfall, adults can rest on misted loungers or at the shaded bar and seating area. With a tennis court, billiard table, table tennis and more, there’s always something to do.

The old Quercy domaine has 10 en-suite bedrooms over two buildings and several reception rooms. The original fireplaces and underfloor heating in many rooms keep you comfortable year-round, and you’ll love the SONOS zones throughout the house and outside. Maid service is included, and you’ll have access to the extensive house wine cellar.

If you can tear yourself away from the property, explore the main square and get a coffee in Moliere (2.5 km). Nearby medieval villages like Castelnau Montratier and Cahors have weekly markets, shops and beautiful architecture.

This splendid French chateau is 1 hr from the Toulouse and Brive airports and 20 minutes from the private aviation Cahors airport.

    Interior & Grounds

As the double wooden doors close under the stone arch entrance into the grand front hall you are greeted by a rare 1895 Steinway and, in the winter, by a roaring fire in an original fireplace, a feature of many rooms around the house.

Through the door to the left, walk past the full size antique billiards table and another fireplace, and you will reach the Salon D’Hiver, beyond which, you will reach the fully specified study. While the whole house has Wi-Fi, if you cannot completely leave work behind, this is a quiet spot for checking up on the office. Along the internal corridor, straight ahead from the entrance hall you will pass the old stone stairs on your right, and a downstairs bedroom and bathroom especially useful for the older of our guests. Further along, past a small anteroom (very useful if you would like to keep a close eye on a young child during dinner) you will find, looking out over pollarded plane trees, the banqueting table for 20 adults set under the hanging candelabra, with another fireplace to keep dinners warm, although, with under floor heating in many rooms, the lovely fires stoked with wood from the forest are not always necessary. Leaving the dining room through the double doors on to the breakfast terrace you will find a solid stone patio, table and benches perfectly matching the original limestone and capturing the sun to warm, waking guests gently over fresh croissants.

Leaving the dining room, to the right you will pass by the passage leading down to the mediaeval vaulted wine cellars equipped with air conditioning and oak racking created by a local master carpenter. This is a fully stocked cellar and a great space for wine tasting, it will definitely get you in the mood for trying the famous Quercy black wine. The cellar is also well stocked with Champagne, Bordeaux and Burgundy, with many famous names and vintages available to guests. The housekeeper has the list and this can be sent by email on request.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a Le Cornu range with 6 hobs - 4 gas and 2 electric. While this cooker is the choice of professional French chefs, it is perfect to for an enthusiastic amateur. It also offers a large hot plate for woks and simmering 4 saucepans. There are two large oven - a gas and electric, microwave, fridge, 2 dishwashers a prep sink and a large stone sink. The air conditioned cellar offers additional storage for food. The kitchen is ideal for cater for parties or events.

On the other side of the kitchen from the breakfast terrace, is the lunch table under a leafy pagoda with an integral cooling misting system allowing even the hottest of afternoons to be shared over lunch.

Perhaps, leaving the best to last, beyond the kitchen, is the Salon D’Ete, a converted barn with an amazing timbered oak supported roof, 6 sets of French windows leading out to the gardens and both terraces and a wonderful picture window, framing the plane tree avenue in the gardens.

Wi-Fi and SONOS zones cover most of the area downstairs. If you have your own collection of music on an iPod or similar, this can be added to the music collection in the Residence and accessed from each zone either separately or as a whole

There are ten guest bedrooms, all have en-suite bathrooms with lots of fluffy white towels, soap and slippers for that extra bit of luxury and comfort and all the beds have crisp white Egyptian linen. If you have any special requests e.g. Feather pillows or synthetic pillows we will be happy to accommodate you. Each of the bedrooms is provided with bottled water, although the tap water is completely drinkable too. All rooms have hairdryers.

In Domaine Fabrige, the bedrooms are located upstairs off the large hallway.

    - Moulin – Beautiful en suite bedroom, comprising of a double bed. The bathroom has a shower and a roll top bath and double vanity unit.

    - Magnolia – Beautiful en-suite room with a super king bed and a bathroom with a roll top bath and shower. This also has a double vanity unit.

    - Feu – Beautiful bedroom with en suite king size bed, opening onto the garden via French doors.

    Outside Grounds
In the grounds, as you walk through the well attended gardens you will find two fenced ponds, vegetable and herb gardens.

The all weather hard tennis court installed, with a practice wall, in 2012, is well away from the house having its own pavilion. The court is floodlit allowing guests to play during the cooler hours of the Summer months.

The swimming pool is a stunning construction of Quercy stone. At 15m in length, it is perfect for swimming lengths and playing children, who love the small stone waterfall that rises from one end.  Built from the remains of a ruined local chapel and with a terracotta, tiled roof supported by huge oak beams, there is a shaded bar and seating area with an adjoining shower and loo. Around the pool, there are all weather wicker loungers lying beneath a discrete misting system that can be controlled from the bar, so you can maximize your time in the sun sipping your cocktails.

There is a large wood on the property, where adventurous children can explore or even pitch a tent for the night.

The large flat lawn area is perfect for kicking around a football and other family and children activities. The garden also provides a children’s play area with swings, slides, trampoline and playhouse.

All outside areas are served with a sonos music system so that you can enjoy the music of your choice.

Parking is to the rear of the property, all vehicles out of sight. Once you arrive you will not feel the need to leave. There is ample space for all residents and visitors.

There are large terraces. To the east of the kitchen where the sun rises and sets, it is wonderful, enjoying a coffee and a croissant, looking over the rolling hills and through the avenue of Plane trees. Another terrace is perfect for lunch with a table large enough to accommodate all guests and children. BBQ’s can be arranged here for lunch or dinner. It is shaded and also offers the misting system! Map, Location & Local Information

The local area is ideal for walking, exploring fine medieval villages, antique markets, horse-riding tours, playing golf and more. There are wonderful villages in the neighborhood. Moliere is the closest village to get bread, a newspaper and a cup of coffee. It's 2.5km away.

A nice place to have lunch is under the medieval open marketplace in Castelnau Montratier, where the owners are friendly and the lunch menu of the day is simple but good. Castelnau Montratier is 5 km in the other direction and is a famous Bastide town. There are a number of banks, a good pharmacy, a friendly doctor, beautician etc.

Cahors is a beautiful medieval town, full of upmarket shops and a great market on Thursdays and Saturdays. There are also a number of good restaurants and cafes. This is about a 30-minute drive.

Montcuq is also highly recommended. It is a beautiful drive there. The town offers good restaurants and cafes. The market on Sunday is packed, so an early start is recommended!

There are daily markets and schedules are announced in the local newspaper. Local farmers sell their produce here. Don’t miss the spring-only strawberry variety “Gariguettes” filling the stands or the bundles of green asparagus. Look out for announcements for antique markets (Brocantes or vide-greniers) on the roadside at roundabouts or intersections. The staff on site will be happy to provided you with any further information that you may need – vineyards, riding, kayaking, caves, water parks, etc.

Moissac (20 km) has a beautiful church and an impressive monastery visited by pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella. Next to the monastery is the Bistro de l‘abbaye on the church square where lunch outside is wonderful in the shade of the magnolia trees.

Toulouse is a one-hour drive over a comfortable highway. It’s a beautiful city and perfect for shopaholics. A hot tourist attraction is St Emilion; the authentic wine town next to Bordeaux with wine history at every corner. It’s a must but not less than a two hour drive to the west. Bordeaux is a stunning city at 1½ hour away.

    Domaine Fabriges Reviews

    • Fabulous

Posted by Georgia C on 30/08/2016

We booked Domaine Fabriges for our family get together. There were 7 adults and 10 children (ranging in age from 2-14) in our party and every person came away with the words 'best holiday EVER'. Every single thing has been thought of and catered for. There was nothing the staff won't do to make your holiday special. I can't recommend this property highly enough. We will definitely return.

    • What a wonderful property

Posted by Shelley L on 20/10/2015

A note to let you know how much we loved our stay. It was beyond our expectations. The photographs do not do your property justice! Every single staff member was excellent including the chef and we loved everything! Laurence took excellent care of some of the hiccups which were a result of the fierce storm they experienced a few days previously. Your property is exceptional as is the service provided by your staff. Rachael's food was superb, and the children were beautifully catered for. Please don't hesitate to forward my contact details to any potential clients who may like a personal recommendation. We hope some time to rerun to this beautiful property. It was very special!

    • Fabulous stay in a stunning property

Posted by Helen R on 01/09/2015

We stayed at Domaine Fabriges for a family wedding and it was amazing in every way. It's a simply wonderful venue for any celebration or get-together, large or small. The house and grounds, accommodation and facilities are second-to-none, with luxury touches and absolute comfort throughout. We found it the perfect retreat - just settle in and relax by the gorgeous pool or have a game of tennis if you're feeling more active! The surrounding area is beautiful too, if you can tear yourself away that is... We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be back!

    • Third visit!

      Posted by Anonymous on 27/07/2015

Domain Fabriges has an amazing ability to absorb guests and children alike without ever making people feel like they are living on top of each other. The house provide a wonderful opportunity to relax in a tranquil setting and or to benefit from the numerous games spread throughout - tennis, table tennis, swimming, table football, billiards and acres of space to run around. The staff provide an excellent quality of service without ever imposing and the only time you have to lift a finger is to eat! I have been lucky enough to visit on three separate occasions and on each occasion the time has gone too fast.

    • Excellent? No extraordinary!

Posted by Peter B on 22/07/2015

If you want to go away with friends and family and stay in a magnificent Domaine with everything you could ever want at your fingertips - this is the place for you. Fifteen of us had an unbelievably fantastic holiday at the Domaine last week. The stunning property is very tastefully decorated, gardens wonderful, and we loved the way the house and estate were so beautifully laid out and designed. We thought we might be adventurous while on holiday - but we weren't. Not because we're lazy but basically because we spent the entire time playing all the available onsite sports/games on offer, When we weren't doing that we'd watch Wimbledon/The Open/Tour de France in the heat of the day, eating and drinking the remainder of the time. It was exhausting! The staff were magnificent, courteous and friendly, and the food was sumptuous. The wine was incomparable and I would encourage guests to try anything from the house cellar. We will be back!

    • Fantastic in every way

Posted by Dr David Casey on 16/06/2014

Just to let you know Domaine Fabriges was fantastic in every way, and a very good recommendation from yourselves. I would particularly like to compliment the staff for their discreet professional but warm friendly service. Important to point out I feel the catering bill came to less than €12 per day per person for very fine dining all week!!

We have been guests at Domaine Fabriges in both Summer and Winter (New Year) with our young family and friends. It is difficult to overstate how relaxed one feels, once esconced. The property offers complete privacy. It has been renovated to the highest standard and offers a sublime environment of casual elegance. It surpasses the standard of luxury afforded by a five star hotel. Thoroughly and unhesitatingly recommended.

    • A little piece of heaven

Posted by Nicky de veulle on 06/10/2012

My family and I spent a week at Domaine Fabriges in the summer and it felt like a little piece of heaven! The accommodation is of the highest standard & the facilities are second to none. The swimming pool area is beautiful and provided hours of entertainment for the children. Meanwhile the adults loved the bar area and the 'misting system' which left you feeling like you were staying at the most luxurious spa retreat. There was so much to do (or not do!) the tennis court, billiard room, table tennis table, exploring the grounds, or even feeding the chickens no one wanted to leave! With plenty of terraces to enjoy your meals, all carefully positioned to make the most of the rising or setting sun, and providing shelter from the midday heat - there is absolutely nothing to complain about. Whilst we visited in the summer I could imagine spending a equally amazing week curled up on the comfy sofas with the fires blazing in the middle of winter. Just the perfect venue for family and friends to enjoy. We spend a most amazing week here and would eagerly return for more. A little piece of heaven!

    • Most Relaxing

Posted by Julian Anthony on 02/10/2012

Having stayed at Fabriges every year for the last 3, I would like thoroughly to recommend it. It is not just how comfortable the rooms and bathrooms are, not simply how organised the whole set up is, but the overwhelming ability properly to relax and enjoy your holiday while staying there that keeps bringing me back each year. Never have the staff been anything other than splendid, I suggest using them as much as possible. All the facilities are brilliant, there is plenty for everyone to do and lovely settings for lunch and dinner. It is special, book it if you can find a time when it is available.

    • Amazing

Posted by Danielle King on 24/09/2012

I had an amazing two week stay with my family. Facilities were fantastic, staff were friendly and the place was spot on for children of all ages. The cook was great and happy to alter the menu for fussy eaters like myself which is always a bonus. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a perfect holiday.

    • Just Fabulous!

We stayed for a long weekend at Domaine Farbridge to celebrate a friends 40th Birthday and had a wonderful time. The Chateaux is very easy to locate and when you arrive you are met by the staff and shown the facilities. We all had a great celebration with the food and selection of wines available second to none. The staff were excellent and very descreet - nothing was too much trouble! The pool area was a hit as well as the tennis courts. We look forward to returning soon.

    • Paradise

    05 years.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The decor! The previous owner had a great taste.

We have had musicians and politicians, but we are unable to name them!

What’s the strangest or most difficult guest request you’ve ever received?

    Really do?

Drive around the area, it is stunning! The French equivalent of Tuscany.
