Domaine Fabriges is a beautiful château in the Lot region of southern France, set within 75 acres of grounds with landscaped gardens, a children’s play area and vast forest. Admire the avenue of century-old plane trees, swim in the heated pool made from Quercy stone, play on the tennis court then relax by the poolside bar or beneath the leafy pagoda. – ideal for a group of friends or extended family, there is always something to do at this welcoming high-end abode.  

Across the old Quercy domaine you will find several reception rooms alongside twelve en suite bedrooms in the main house and adjacent Grange. We adore the original fireplace in the cosy lounge, the Steinway grand piano in the hallway as well as the elegant billiard table and air-conditioned TV lounge. The en suite bedrooms have been beautifully styled with attractive furnishings and graceful décor, some with canopied beds and rolltop baths, and there are glorious garden or countryside views from every room. The extensive wine cellar is also available to guests so they can purchase wines if they wish.  

Choose to enjoy breakfast on the terrace overlooking the hills then head over to the large table by the pizza oven and barbecue for long shady lunches close to the chef’s kitchen. A Sonos music system means you can enjoy your favourite tunes on the terrace and by the swimming pool or embrace the surrounding tranquillity as you stroll through the vast grounds and woodland, watching children play. Guests young and old will also adore the championship size table football and table tennis.

Housekeeping six days per week is included in the price and if there are more than 10 guests staying then the mandatory chef service has to be booked as well – how wonderful to be able to cooked for every day (please see the "Extras" tab and enquire for additional pricing for this). For less than 10 guests, daily breakfasts can still be arranged for a supplement as well as other optional extras.

If you can tear yourself away from the wonderful surroundings, pop into the local village for a morning coffee and explore other medieval gems such as Castelnau-Montratier and the market town of Montcuq. As well as atmospheric markets showcasing a wealth of delicious produce, look out for brocantes and vide-greniers in nearby villages and towns.  

Visit the Malbec-producing vineyards of Cahors, a handsome town known for its fantastic shops, restaurants, hidden gardens and the 14th century Pont Valentre. Soak up the artistic ambience of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, visit the impressive monastery in Moissac and potter further afield to the likes of Pujols and Monflanquin, classified as two of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in this attractive region of southern France.

What you should know…

  • For bookings with more than 10 guests chef-hire is mandatory and self-catering is not possible - please see the "Extras" tab for more information and let yourself be pampered!
  • There are eight bedrooms in the main part of the house and four bedrooms in the separate ‘Grange’ building.
  • Air-conditioning is only featured in eight bedrooms (not the bedrooms in the Grange) and in the TV lounge.
  • The fantastic in-house team are there six days a week for cleaning, tidying up and general maintenance. They live in a separate building and they try and be as discreet as possible when working in and around the domaine.

    In the Lot department of southern France, very close to the border of Tarn-et-Garonne, Domaine Fabriges enjoys a beautiful countryside location set in four acres of gardens and woodland with seventy acres of working farmland beyond.

    The nearest airport is Toulouse just over an hour away whilst Brive and Bergerac Airports are also worth considering. There are TGV train service from Paris Montparnasse to Montauban (29km) taking just under four hours.

    The nearest village is around 4km by car, a good place to stop off for a coffee after picking up fresh bread, whilst there is a Spar supermarket just outside the village. The bastide town of Castelnau-Montratier is an attractive spot for lunch after admiring the historic squares, medieval houses and church. The weekly market takes place on a Sunday morning. In the height of the summer look out a Wednesday evening night market.

    Elsewhere, enjoy the picturesque drive to the pretty old village of Montcuq (25km) which attracts many visitors on a Sunday morning for its bustling market. Indeed, across the spring, summer and autumn you will find a variety of markets across the region – look out for green asparagus and spring strawberries (gariguettes) as well as some wonderful brocantes and vide-greniers dotted around.

    Heading north, Cahors (34km) is a beautiful medieval town with upmarket shops, a fantastic twice-weekly market, several good restaurants and cafes as well as hidden gardens and handsome architecture including its grand cathedral and Pont Valentre, a 14th-century bridge which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The vineyards surrounding Cahors produce some of the best wine in the world.

    From Cahors you can take a boat excursion all the way to Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (46km) or you can drive there in just under an hour. This ancient cliffside village by the banks of the Lot is especially loved by artists. It was once on the French pilgrim route and visitors flock to the gorgeous village every summer.

    Further south by the Tarn River, Moissac (31km) has an impressive monastery which was visited by pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella – after visiting, stop off for lunch on the shady church square by the magnolia trees.

    Another fantastic day out includes the wonderful city of Toulouse (83km), also known as ‘La Ville Rose’ thanks to the pink stone used to create many of its buildings. Meanwhile, some of the Lot-et-Garonne’s picture-perfect villages include Tournon-d'Agenais (48km), Penne-d'Agenais (68km), Pujols (74km) and the bastide town of Monflanqun (76km), officially classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’.

    The beautiful landscapes of the Lot and Tarn-et-Garonne offer a variety of activities for families with children. That’s if they can tear themselves away from Domaine Fabriges’ wonderful wooded grounds where there is so much space for adventurous play. 

    Start off at the lake by the local village where you will find riverside walks, mountain biking trails and fishing. In the height of the summer other activities at the Base de Loisirs include supervised swimming from the sandy lakeside beach as well as canoe, pedalo and paddleboard rental.

    If visiting Cahors, check the timetable for the tourist road train that may appeal to youngsters wishing to explore the town. There are also seasonal boat trips from Cahors including excursions all the way to the idyllic cliffside village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie.

    Montauban has some interesting museums to visit as well as the botanical gardens or children may simply prefer to let off steam at Parc du Treil by the edge of the Tarn river.

    A little further afield, enjoy the tree-top trails and other outdoor adventures at Cap Nature just north of Cahors or discover why Walygator Sud-Ouest, just over an hour away near Agen, is one of south-west France’s most popular theme parks.

    This is a compulsory extra that has to be added to your booking if there are more than 10 guests. It should be arranged at the time of booking and it is subject to a weekly supplement (plus the full cost of the food and drinks used by the chef, payable on a daily basis).     The details of this service are:

    - 6 days (per week) chef service carried out by an in-house team
    - The staff do not work on a Wednesday (a good time to visit local restaurants or the market)
    - The cost of all food and drink is charged separately (receipts will be presented daily to the lead guest)
    - Fridges (poolside bar, kitchen and summer lounge) are stocked daily with soft drinks, beer and rosé
    - The chef uses the professional kitchen whilst the guest kitchen is available for you to make yourself tea, coffee and light snacks etc if needed
    - Continental breakfast usually includes freshly baked croissants, pain au chocolates, fruit, granola and yoghurt
    - Lunch is usually served on the poolside terrace (foods such as salads, French cheeses and meats, quiche etc)
    - Evening meals are at 7.00 p.m. (aperitifs and canapés followed by a two or three course dinner)
    - Pizza evenings, barbecues, woodland barbecues and tennis breakfasts are some of the other options that can be considered

    Security deposit £2000 paid via bank transfer to the owner one month before arrival and refunded two weeks after departure, subject to full inspection.
    Arrival time 4.00 p.m.
    Departure time 10.00 am.
    Energy costs included? Included in the rental price.
    Linen & towels included? Yes, changed once for stays over 7 nights.
    Heating costs included? Yes.
    End of stay cleaning included? Yes. However, guests are required to leave the accommodation clean, tidy and in the same condition as on their arrival. Any extra cleaning, laundry, maintenance and/or rubbish disposal required will be charged against the security deposit.
    Pool opening dates? Please note that pool opening dates are subject to local weather conditions and pool maintenance requirements and that cooler months may not be suitable for swimming.
    Pool heating charge? Pool heating is included. Please note that like all heated pools, pool heating and water temperature are reliant on weather and outside temperatures.

    The biggest challenge we faced was trying to get a cocktail for a few hours every night - this proved to be too much for the French in deepest darkest France.

      We had a perfect week at the Domaine. The housekeeper, chef and their team did a simply splendid job of looking after us. 10 adults and 11 children are a lot to look after and cater for, and they always did the job with smile and efficiently. The Domaine has everything you could wish for and is beautifully kept. Fabulous memories, lovely week. Thank you.

      My family and 4 others shared an amazing 7 nights here in July. The property and its facilities exceeded our expectations, and were so wonderfully tended, serviced and managed by the superb team that hosted us. The experience was rather like staying in a luxury hotel.....with guests of our choosing. There was little need or desire to leave the property (although we had many choices of activity if required) apart from a great kayak trip, come walking and visiting the local towns for a meal and some shopping. The pool and outdoor activities were all highly engaging for our teenagers and adults, and quieter indoor options also provided welcome tranquil moments. The chef and his output were to an extraordinarily high standard, all served with discretion and effortless charm. Given our party seemingly had quite varied and picky food tastes, somehow the chef managed to satisfy everyone with ease and the "i don't eat much lunch" brigade were soon overwhelmed with amazing and varied temptations. I cannot stress how exceptional this place is and would unequivocally refer it to anyone.

      A note to let you know how much we loved our stay. It was beyond our expectations. The photographs do not do your property justice! Every single staff member was excellent including the chef and we loved everything! Laurence took excellent care of some of the hiccups which were a result of the fierce storm they experienced a few days previously. Your property is exceptional as is the service provided by your staff. Rachael's food was superb,and the children were beautifully catered for. Please don't hesitate to forward my contact details to any potential clients who may like a personal recommendation. We hope some time to rerun to this beautiful property. It was very special!

      We stayed at Domaine Fabriges for a family wedding and it was amazing in every way. It's a simply wonderful venue for any celebration or get-together, large or small. The house and grounds, accommodation and facilities are second-to-none, with luxury touches and absolute comfort throughout. We found it the perfect retreat - just settle in and relax by the gorgeous pool or have a game of tennis if you're feeling more active! The surrounding area is beautiful too, if you can tear yourself away that is... We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be back!

      Domain Fabriges has an amazing ability to absorb guests and children alike without ever making people feel like they are living on top of each other. The house provide a wonderful opportunity to relax in a tranquil setting and or to benefit from the numerous games spread throughout - tennis, table tennis, swimming, table football, billiards and acres of space to run around. The staff provide an excellent quality of service without ever imposing and the only time you have to lift a finger is to eat! I have been lucky enough to visit on three separate occasions and on each occasion the time has gone too fast.

      If you want to go away with friends and family and stay in a magnificent Domaine with everything you could ever want at your fingertips - this is the place for you. Fifteen of us had an unbelievably fantastic holiday at the Domaine last week. The stunning property is very tastefully decorated, gardens wonderful, and we loved the way the house and estate were so beautifully laid out and designed. We thought we might be adventurous while on holiday - but we weren't. Not because we're lazy but basically because we spent the entire time playing all the available onsite sports/games on offer, When we weren't doing that we'd watch Wimbledon/The Open/Tour de France in the heat of the day, eating and drinking the remainder of the time. It was exhausting! The staff were magnificent, courteous and friendly, and the food was sumptuous. The wine was incomparable and I would encourage guests to try anything from the house cellar. We will be back!

      Just to let you know Domaine Fabriges was fantastic in every way, and a very good recommendation from yourselves. I would particularly like to compliment the staff for their discreet professional but warm friendly service. Important to point out I feel the catering bill came to less than €12 per day per person for very fine dining all week!!

      We have been guests at Domaine Fabriges in both Summer and Winter (New Year) with our young family and friends. It is difficult to overstate how relaxed one feels, once esconced. The property offers complete privacy. It has been renovated to the highest standard and offers a sublime environment of casual elegance. It surpasses the standard of luxury afforded by a five star hotel. Thoroughly and unhesitatingly recommended.

      My family and I spent a week at Domaine Fabriges in the summer and it felt like a little piece of heaven! The accommodation is of the highest standard & the facilities are second to none. The swimming pool area is beautiful and provided hours of entertainment for the children. Meanwhile the adults loved the bar area and the 'misting system' which left you feeling like you were staying at the most luxurious spa retreat. There was so much to do (or not do!) the tennis court, billiard room, table tennis table, exploring the grounds, or even feeding the chickens no one wanted to leave! With plenty of terraces to enjoy your meals, all carefully positioned to make the most of the rising or setting sun, and providing shelter from the midday heat - there is absolutely nothing to complain about. Whilst we visited in the summer I could imagine spending a equally amazing week curled up on the comfy sofas with the fires blazing in the middle of winter. Just the perfect venue for family and friends to enjoy. We spend a most amazing week here and would eagerly return for more. A little piece of heaven!

      Having stayed at Fabriges every year for the last 3, I would like thoroughly to recommend it. It is not just how comfortable the rooms and bathrooms are, not simply how organised the whole set up is, but the overwhelming ability properly to relax and enjoy your holiday while staying there that keeps bringing me back each year. Never have the staff been anything other than splendid, I suggest using them as much as possible. All the facilities are brilliant, there is plenty for everyone to do and lovely settings for lunch and dinner. It is special, book it if you can find a time when it is available.

      I had an amazing two week stay with my family. Facilities were fantastic, staff were friendly and the place was spot on for children of all ages. The cook was great and happy to alter the menu for fussy eaters like myself which is always a bonus. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a perfect holiday.

      We stayed for a long weekend at Domaine Farbridge to celebrate a friends 40th Birthday and had a wonderful time. The Chateaux is very easy to locate and when you arrive you are met by the staff and shown the facilities. We all had a great celebration with the food and selection of wines available second to none. The staff were excellent and very descreet - nothing was too much trouble!The pool area was a hit as well as the tennis courts. We look forward to returning soon.

      We stayed for a week at Domaine Farbridge, it is like paradise on earth. We had the most amazing time and have very fond memories of our wonderful evening meals. The staff are friendly, polite and descreet. The facilitites are just perfect for a relaxing family holiday. The kids enjoyed playing in the pool as well as tennis and they even camped in the garden. I loved the opportunity to truly relax and have fun with my family, I hope we will be able to visit again soon.
