Overview of Chateau Tertre

What Oliver loves…

  • The award-winning vineyard you can see from this hilltop French chateau has a Merlot that scored 91 points.
  • Chateau Tertre was used as the location for several films, including Blame It on Mum (2009)!
  • A swim in the infinity pool includes magnificent views of the countryside.
  • The UNESCO world heritage site of St Emilion is just a short drive away.

What you should know…

  • Not all bedrooms are in the main house. Three duplexes perfect for families are in the converted wine chai overlooking the pool, just 30 yards away.
  • Because you’re in picturesque vineyards without shops in walking distance, a car hire is highly recommended.

Perfect for wine lovers, Chateau Tertre, a large luxury chateau in Aquitaine, sits on a south-facing limestone ridge with breathtaking views over vineyards on rolling hills. A short drive from the St. Emilion and Bordeaux wine regions, this 18th century country house is situated in 3 acres of terraced gardens. Enjoy the views from a stunning infinity pool, two-person hammock and outdoor dining terrace.

The interior, beautifully restored in 2013 to a high standard, features original stone walls in some rooms and modern en-suite bathrooms. With five bedrooms in the main house and three duplexes in the wine chai, several families can holiday together. If there’s a rainy day, Satellite TV, DVD players and a Playstation 3 will keep you entertained.

St. Emilion, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a short drive away. Try renowned local wines and explore shops and bakeries on cobbled medieval streets. You’ll also find plenty of outdoor adventures like ballooning, canoeing on the Dordogne and golf close by, or you can tour medieval chateaux and learn the region’s history.

Near Belves-de-Castillon in the Gironde, this family-friendly chateau is 40 minutes from the Bergerac and Bordeaux airports and 15 minutes from Libourne’s TGV train station.

Please note that the minimum stay is 7 nights.

Chateau Tertre Reviews

  • Dazzling

    Posted by Eva on 20/09/2017

The house was absolutely stunning—it had the old world charm of a vintage French countryside chateau with the convenience of modern amenities like an incredible gas stove and many ensuite bathrooms. The location was mere minutes away from the best wineries in the world, and the garden on the property was dripping with fruit trees and other beautiful plants. I highly recommend making this your vacation destination!

  • Thank you Oliver's Travels!

Posted by Sherry G. on 08/08/2017

We spent a wonderful week at Chateau Tertre from 29th July to 5th August and I would highly recommend this charming property. Right from the start we were met by our super helpful and friendly property owner who explained everything to us and gave us her number should we require anything during our stay (she even booked a taxi for one of our party!). We were 12 adults and 4 children, there was plenty of space for us all to live - and all the rooms had en-suites which was total luxury! Our room, 'the bookcase room', was probably the most special and something I'd only ever seen before in films or books - you'll have to see for yourselves! From the chateau you can see the vineyards for miles (and also from the infinity pool, of course!) and the gardens at the chateau are lovingly tended by Didier the friendly gardener - there are apple trees and quince trees and even grapes growing around the outdoor dinning area. The 2-man hammock was a real hit and proved very popular during our stay - what better way to relax with a good book and a glass of wine? As we had various birthdays and family celebrations going on we didn't really explore the surrounding area much but St Emilion is definitely worth a visit and is only 15 mins by car (maybe less?). The house is really well equipped - we wanted for nothing and there are plenty of supermarkets within a short drive (and a massive Leclerc a 10 minute drive away). A really lovely touch upon our arrival was bottles of wine, bread and pate which were very welcome after our journeys. I would recommend a stay at Chateau Tertre, it's just a wonderful place and we hope to be back soon as we felt really well looked after and it very quickly become a home from home (if a LOT bigger!)

  • A fabulous week

    Posted by Fiona on 25/01/2017

My friends and I had a fabulous week at Chateau Tertre to celebrate my fortieth. The property is spacious and well-situated, with glorious views over rolling vineyards - we ate on the patio every night to take advantage of those views. We also enjoyed relaxing in the hammock and splashing about in the lovely pool. All of the bedrooms are beautiful and have great ensuite facilities, and if you are unlucky with the weather, there are plenty of places to eat and relax inside the house. The property's location close to Bordeaux airport and some of France's best wine country is another major strength. We wouldn't hesitate to come back!

  • We loved it!

  • A weekend in Bordeaux

Posted by Alexander C on 08/05/2014

We were looking to celebrate the upcoming marriage of a friend with a weekend of wine tasting in beautiful Bordeaux.

We selected Château Tertre and I am pleased to say it was a good choice.

The Château (arguably more a formal country house) is set amongst the rolling hills with beautiful views of Bordeaux and is tastefully decorated, well appointed and very comfortable. It even has its own vineyard - with their 2011 vintage being most excellent!

We were blessed with good weather which meant there was lots to do at the Château itself with a lovely pool (unheated so rather bracing in early May!) and very comfortable hammock and outdoor games to be enjoyed.

Inside, the Château has 5 bedrooms (the annex has several more) all with en suite bathrooms which look recently renovated to a high standard. The rooms are quite similar which makes it easier to assign them without people getting jealous of one another!

The Château suits large groups especially families and if you are looking to be located in the heart of wine country (the beautiful Saint Emilion is only a 15 minute drive away - you will need transport, we found taxis unreliable) then I thoroughly recommend it.
