Villa Vinarija is a beautifully restored 19th-century winery offering a unique blend of heritage and comfort in the heart of Hvar Island. Set behind timeworn stone walls and hand-carved wooden doors, this characterful retreat accommodates up to 12 guests across five bedrooms, including a charming guesthouse. Many original features have been lovingly preserved, giving the interiors a sense of authenticity and warmth. Modern comforts like underfloor heating, air conditioning, and a wood-burning stove ensure year-round appeal, while a flexible layout allows for yoga, creative workshops, or relaxed gatherings in the old tavern-turned-living space.

Outside, the villa unfolds into a series of stone terraces and peaceful corners. A marble mosaic garden wraps around a heated private pool, outdoor shower, and fragrant Mediterranean planting, while shaded seating areas and a small fountain invite lazy afternoons. A high stone wall offers privacy, without compromising the view toward the sea and open landscape.

Tucked into the village of Vrbanj, Villa Vinarija feels blissfully local yet well-connected - just a short drive from Stari Grad and Jelsa, and close to walking trails, inviting beaches, and summer cultural events. Water sports and skydiving are available within the area for those seeking a further thrill.

What Oliver loves...

  • Once a 19th-century winery, the villa has been beautifully restored, blending historic charm with modern comfort.
  • Enjoy breakfast on the terrace before setting off to explore nearby Stari Grad, Jelsa, or a hidden beach.
  • The terraced garden is a creative masterpiece, with marble mosaics surrounding a heated pool, a fountain, and hidden corners for reading or unwinding.

What you should know

  • The villa’s layout includes steep wooden stairs and narrow spiral steps which may not be suitable for very young children or guests with mobility issues.
  • One of the bedrooms features two bunk beds - ideal for kids, but may not suit all adult groups.
  • Due to the villa’s historic character, some original features show signs of age and wear.
  • The pool is unfenced, so children should be supervised at all times.
