Sandyprints is located on Alleynes Bay Beach on the West Coast or ‘Platinum’ coast of Barbados. It is set within St James’s Parish, possibly the most exclusive area in Barbados. The west coast is famed for its fabulous powder white beaches and stunning sunsets and epitomises what we think about when we imagine beautiful Barbados.

It would be hard to find a more idyllic beach than Alleynes Bay Beach, a beautiful stretch of sand with gentle lapping water in a beautiful bay, quieter than some of the nearby beaches, yet with its own character, a perfect spot for snorkelling or watching sunsets and just a gentle stroll away from the Lone Star restaurant. Just one mile down the road is Reeds Bay Beach and two miles away is Sandy Lane Beach perfect for spotting celebrities under the famous pink umbrellas.

If golf is your thing again you are spoilt for choice, the world-class Royal Westmoreland Golf Club is just two miles away and the Sandy Lane Country Club course is less than 4 miles away.

Its just a 7-minute drive to thriving Holetown with its array of fabulous shops and restaurants. Holetown dates back to 1625 and was the site of the first British landing in Barbados. Holetown was named as the river that empties into the sea and reminded the English sailors of the Limehouse Hole on the River Thames. The beautiful and historical St James Parish Church, built originally in 1627, is a must see and gives you a real taste of Barbados history.

Today you can enjoy high-end duty-free shopping at Limegrove Shopping Mall. For a taste of local culture, you should visit the Chattel Village Shops in these beautifullly restored Chattel Houses you can find local arts, crafts and fashion, perfect for finding a unique gift or memento.

Holetown boasts some of the islands finest restaurants notable names include The Beach House and Tides. Barbados has some of the friendliest people and coolest music and a lot of fabulously cheap rum. First and Second Street is the place to party with its cocktail lounges, music bars and restaurants.

Barbados has so much to offer and getting round the Island is very easy, whether in a Jeep or a mini Moke a topless doorless car or experiencing one of the Islands ‘Boogie’ or ‘Reggae’ Buses. You should visit Oistins Friday Fish Fry a marketplace that comes alive with Reggae beats and barbeques sizzling, try local fish, washed down with a beer and sway along to the music and simply people watch. You can visit a rum plantation. St Nicholas Abbey offers rum experience tours and moonlight dinners in a fabulous setting.

Otherwise, you can try a Sunday Brunch Bajan style, a marvellous buffet with a wide choice of local dishes all eaten al fresco. There is a gospel brunch at the Crane Hotels L’Azure restaurant that’s not to be missed.

Barbados offers every type of water sport so whether you want a day out, on a catamaran or want to try surfing on the Caribbean Sea, this can be easily organised.

About the Island & Getting There

About Barbados

At first glance you could be mistaken for thinking that Barbados is purely a beach holiday destination, but you're urged to reconsider this common belief. The island of Barbados is peppered with astonishing landscapes (both coastal and inland), enchanting locals, sublime cuisine, intriguing rums, fascinating wildlife, symbolic architecture and a selection of striking holiday villas.

Delve deep into the history of the island and start your holiday by visiting Sunbury Plantation House & Museum. This former plantation was built in 1660's and the premises are scattered with antiquities that delicately detail a recent history of Barbados. St. Nicholas Abbey also provides an insightful representation of Sugarcane production, Bajan artefacts and a wonderful observation point at Cherry Tree Hill. If you’re keen to visit one of the oldest Parliamentary buildings within the Commonwealth and appreciate the democratic legacy of Barbados, drop by The Parliament Buildings. This neo-gothic congress can be found in Bridgetown and act as a representation of Barbados’s Independence. There is so much history present throughout the island and as a result, Bridgetown and its Garrison has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, which the locals are very proud of.

Great efforts have been made to persevere the natural beauty of Barbados, so if you’re drawn to the exploration of National Parks and multicoloured gardens, it won’t take you long to realise that Barbados is a haven for such paradises! Within the Andromeda Botanic Gardens, Farley Hill National Park, Flower Forest, Hunte's Gardens and Welchman Hall Gully - visitors, and Botanist alike, will be lost for hours admiring these astonishing botanical parklands. Keep an eye out for the Dwarf Poinciana, or Peacock Flower…it’s the national flower of Barbados.

Bajan’s take their food very seriously! If you and your fellow travellers are enticed by the gastronomic aspect of holidaying, we believe you’ve selected the right island. With every aspect of cookery mastered; from pickling to freshly prepared dishes, sweet & savoury, fragrant & spicy and of course, the bountiful choice of seafood. Check out the food stalls in Paynes Bay Church – where vendors exhibit locally made dishes & street food that will scintillate the taste buds. At the end of every working week, locals and tourists both flock to Oistins, for 'Fish Fry Day'. This is a must for those who haven’t undergone the experience! The evening starts with barbecues and then ascends into a joyful party. This caps off a busy few days of work for locals as well as the 'strains' associated with serious holidaying.

Barbados is of course iconic for its Beaches & Rum…so why not bring them together? You will have to go out of your way not to be able to find a beach bar along the west coast of the island, as well as the countless Rum Shops. Yes, you’ve read correctly, Rum Shops! These small and locally run businesses embrace the Bajan spice of life, in liquid form. Very delicious! If you’re searching for something a little more special, take a trip to the east coast and visit Sand Dunes Bar and Restaurant at Windy Hill, for an unforgettable experience.

Barbados is a distinct and striking part of the Caribbean. It’s a great fit for all types of travellers, as the island really does have it all. For a little more information about this delightful island, check out our guide to a remarkable stay!

Alleynes Bay Beach is absolutely perfect for children, with its shallow safe calm waters in the sheltered bay. This is a wonderful place to swim, float, walk shell hunt or simply wave jump. The fantastic soft white sand underfoot and beach umbrellas overhead make for a perfect way to enjoy the day.

Children love looking out for the turtles! You are on the perfect turtle spotting beach. It is said they particularly like to hang around the Lone Star which serves wonderful lunches and dinners so parents, if you need some refreshments to energise your turtle hunt you don’t need to look far. There are regular turtle watches throughout the year and if you are lucky, you might see actual hatching. If you want to actually swim with the turtles there are some good glass bottom boat tours leaving form Carlisle Bay or Paynes Bay.

If the kids are into sports the beach is perfect for snorkelling. If something wilder required, there are jet skis for hire. Other beaches of note include Mullins Bay beach which has water skiing lessons, jet skis, water trampolines and climbing pyramids and tubing.

The kids will absolutely love a trip into Holetown. Make sure you go and explore the Chattel Village with its pretty colourful chattel houses which were originally small wooden houses that could be easily be moved from place to place and date back to plantation day. Today they house local arts and crafts. The kids are bound to pick up unique nick-nacks to show their friends back home plus they will also get a real taste of local culture. If the kids are mall shoppers, they will find everything they want at the Limegrove Shopping Mall, the first of its kind opened in Barbados There are plenty of high-end brands to be found along with local designer shops. If they get tired of shopping head over to the Folkestone Marine Park (just North of Holetown) to pretty fish near the shore. There is plenty of shade and a playground. Youmight even be lucky enough to see a green monkey playing in the trees!

It’s very easy to drive around Barbados and you really should explore the island as it has so many treasures to see. Harrison’s Cave is a cool place to visit it includes a 30 minute underground guided train ride. Your children will be amazed at the crystallized limestone formations and stream systems. New for 2022 will be a dry slide, a free-swinging bridge across the gully, a zipline a freefall tower and much more!

Barbados is all about family so be rest assured that you will easily find family friendly restaurants, superb beaches and plenty of outdoor activities.
