Holetown sits on Barbados’ west coast, the Platinum Coast, in the parish of St James. It’s about 40 minutes’ drive from Grantley Adams International Airport, with Bridgetown 20 minutes to the south and Speightstown 15 minutes to the north. English settlers landed here in 1627, making Holetown the island’s first settlement, and the landing is still celebrated each February at the Holetown Festival. Today it’s one of Barbados’ liveliest spots. Limegrove Lifestyle Centre has designer boutiques, and First and Second Street are lined with restaurants and rum bars. Holetown Beach and Folkestone Marine Park, known for its snorkelling, are right in town, and Paynes Bay and Sandy Lane are a short drive south. The sea on this side of the island is calm and clear, which makes it ideal for swimming, paddleboarding and swimming with turtles.

Barbados is warm all year, with temperatures around 27–30°C. December to April is the driest and busiest time. Summer brings quieter beaches, lower villa prices and Crop Over, the island’s biggest festival, which ends with Grand Kadooment in early August.
