From the moment you arrive at Rowan Hall, there is a wonderful sense of being welcomed into a private Scottish country home. A dram of whisky, traditional shortbread and homemade tablet set the tone for a stay that feels both special and wonderfully personal, surrounded by the beauty of the Perthshire countryside.
Inside, the house has all the character of a traditional Scottish country residence, with generous proportions and elegant rooms layered with antiques, artwork, patterned fabrics and carefully collected furnishings. Despite its scale and history, Rowan Hall retains the warmth of a much-loved family home, with each room having its own personality and plenty of inviting spaces in which to gather.
At the heart of the house, the kitchen is a relaxed and sociable space for leisurely breakfasts and informal meals, while the more formal dining room provides a memorable setting for celebrations and long dinners together. The room has its own fascinating connection to Scottish history, having once hosted Queen Elizabeth II for dinner.
Afterwards, retire to the drawing room, where comfortable seating, traditional furnishings, artwork and rich textiles create an atmospheric setting for conversation over a fine Scottish whisky. The light-filled orangery offers a more relaxed contrast to the traditional reception rooms, looking out towards the gardens and providing a lovely spot to sit with a book, enjoy afternoon tea or simply watch the changing colours of the surrounding landscape. Throughout the house, large windows help keep the gardens and Perthshire countryside wonderfully present.
Upstairs, the bedrooms continue Rowan Hall's distinctive country-house character. Individually styled with traditional furniture, patterned textiles and carefully chosen decorative details, they feel characterful rather than uniform, with views reaching across the gardens and surrounding countryside. Comfortable bathrooms complete the accommodation, creating plenty of space for families and groups to settle in.
Outside, Rowan Hall feels every inch the private country estate, surrounded by mature gardens, broad lawns and open countryside. Terraces and garden seating provide peaceful places to linger outdoors, while horses grazing nearby and the possibility of spotting deer add to the wonderfully rural atmosphere.
For those feeling more energetic, the private tennis court offers the opportunity for a friendly match, while the pavilion provides another place to gather and enjoy the grounds. There is plenty here to make days spent entirely at Rowan Hall feel special: long breakfasts can drift into afternoons in the garden, games of tennis and drinks outside,
For guests wishing to experience more of Scotland during their stay, a range of activities and experiences can also be arranged. Whisky and wine tastings, Scottish canapés, poetry recitals and talks exploring local history can bring an additional sense of place to an evening at the house, while afternoon tea, Pimm's or Champagne can turn an afternoon in the gardens into an occasion of its own. Further afield, fishing, clay shooting and even scenic air tours offer memorable ways to discover the landscapes surrounding Rowan Hall.
Ultimately, Rowan Hall's appeal lies in its combination of history, character and genuine warmth: the proportions and elegance of a traditional Scottish country house, the personality of a private home, beautiful Perthshire surroundings and the freedom to make a stay as relaxed or as experience-filled as you choose.
