Inside, the elegant drawing room, dining room and impressive entrance hall flow naturally into one another, providing wonderful spaces for socialising, dining and unwinding. A spacious kitchen with an Aga forms the heart of the house, whilst the breakfast room is a lovely place to start the day. Upstairs across various wings, eleven individually styled bedrooms and nine bathrooms, many en suite or private, offer charm, character and flexibility for up to 20 guests.
Beyond the house, beautifully maintained grounds provide ample space to explore, relax and reconnect with nature in a private setting. Wander through the estate admiring the varied colours of the season, enjoy a morning coffee on the patio or simply take in the verdant surroundings that have captivated visitors for generations. Steeped in history and owned by the Duke and Duchess of Fife, Carnegie House has been associated with the Bannerman family since 1367 and later became part of the Carnegie family through marriage. The estate has welcomed royalty over the centuries, with connections to Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the Royal Family. Parts of the house date back to the 13th century, giving every stay a genuine sense of place and continuity.
Its location is equally appealing. Close to Stonehaven and Aberdeen, guests are perfectly placed to enjoy countryside walks, cycling routes, dramatic beaches, historic castles and some of Scotland’s most celebrated golf courses.

- Families are welcome - highchairs can be requested and there's some children's books and toys. Please do note that careful child supervision is required due to the ponds and waterways in the beautiful garden.

From exchanging vows beneath the rose arbour to hosting a reception within the house or the summer marquee, every detail is thoughtfully considered. The experienced wedding team will guide you throughout the planning process, ensuring your celebration is tailored to your wishes.
The stunning gardens and grounds create a breathtaking backdrop for your wedding photographs, with beautiful settings beneath mature trees, beside the pond bridge and against historic garden walls. At the end of your special day, up to 20 guests can stay inside this characterful home – the beautifully appointed bridal bedroom is especially romantic with its roll-top bath and garden views for the newly wedded couple.
Corporate events can also be hosted at Carnegie House.

Yes, there is a separate charge for weddings and a charge for a wedding licence. Rates vary according to the month and individual requirements - please check full pricing at the time of enquiry.
Wedding Ceremony and Reception
There are two outdoor wedding locations – the rose archway in the walled garden and the main lawn, both of which can host up to 100 people. An indoor wedding ceremony can be held in the large marquee (150 guests) or you can hold a more intimate event in Carnegie House’s entrance/reception hall (35 guests)
A wedding feast can be set up in the marquee (150 day guests) or inside the main house (35 guests). Outdoor lighting adds to the special ambience in the evening. In the evening, an additional 50 guests can be welcomed to the marquee for dancing etc.
The marquee is situated on an elevated site within the grounds, overlooking the walled garden. It is available for events from April to end-October. The marquee comes with drapes, lighting (including fairy lights), tables, Chiavari chairs and a PA system.
Catering
The venue uses a trusted company for all catering. Guests cannot arrange their own caterers.
Other Wedding Suppliers
The venue can provide a list of wedding suppliers including furniture hire, photography, videography, event design, wedding cakes, floristry, hair and beauty, sweets, hats, wedding carriages, entertainment and celebrant services.
Where to Stay
Up to 20 guests can stay in the main house. There are further accommodation options in Portlethen, just a short drive away - the venue can provide details.
Venue Accessibility
A ramp can be used to access the main house and there is one WC with disabled access in the main hallway. The kitchen door has flat access (but there are steps leading to the breakfast room). For guests staying overnight at the house, all bedrooms are accessed via stairs, however the venue can recommend accommodation a short drive away with a disabled-access bedroom. If any of your wedding guests have specific accessibility requirements, please discuss this with us at the time of enquiry so we can check if the venue meets individual needs.
For events, there is car parking for a few cars on the gravel by the house. A larger area can be provided for up to 40 cars a few yards from the venue and please ask about overflow car parking a short distance away.
Flexibility on Duration
Most events can take place over two or three days, mid-week options are also possible. Weekend weddings are usually Friday to Monday with the wedding on the Saturday. Please enquire for more precise information.
Children
Children are welcome (supervision is required, especially due to the waterways/ponds in the grounds).
Other Information
There is a midnight curfew for events.
There may be certain restrictions on décor/themes – please enquire and discuss with the wedding coordinator. Fireworks and Chinese lanterns are strictly not allowed due to the rural nature of the surroundings.
Only biodegradable confetti may be used (in small amounts).
If hosting a celebration in a marquee, access to the main house will be limited to staying guests in the evening.
Please note that any event rental may be subject to additional charges, venue hire fees and to a higher security deposit, which will be in addition to any published rental rates and fees.
All events are on request only and subject to prior agreement from the owner, who reserves the right to refuse all events without their prior authorisation.
