Region

Pack your bags and fasten your seatbelts, as Oliver's Travels is thrilled to present a dazzling array of luxury holiday properties in the enchanting land of Dorset! A captivating county where time seems to stand still, Mother Nature has outdone herself. Dorset, with the rolling hills of the Dorset Downs and the jaw-dropping Jurassic Coast, is a real-life tapestry of postcard-perfect landscapes, historic landmarks and villages oozing charm in lavish abundance.
The Jurassic Coast is not just a coastline, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Dorset's showstopping features. Stretching an impressive 95 miles from Orcombe Point in East Devon to Old Harry Rocks near Swanage, this coastline presents endless coastal wonders. Dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and beaches boasting ancient fossils, Charmouth and Lyme Regis are the treasure chests for fossil hunters and curious minds alike.

Dorset is also a playground for history buffs, with landmarks like Corfe Castle standing tall and proud. Perched on a hill, this fortress offers far-reaching, breathtaking views. The Cerne Abbas Giant is a colossal chalk figure etched into a hillside near the village of Cerne Abbas, Dorset's own friendly giant, captivating visitors for centuries.

Dorchester, the county town, is a delightful mishmash of Georgian architecture and markets that buzz with life. Thomas Hardy's Cottage, near Dorchester, gives you a peek into the life of the literary legend himself. Bridport, with its bohemian vibes and eclectic street markets, is like the cool kid in the market town crew. Meanwhile, Weymouth's golden sandy beach and bustling harbour are perfect for leisurely strolls and exploring historic Nothe Fort. For a touch of seaside nostalgia, Swanage brings the Victorian pier and a heritage steam railway into the mix.

The Isle of Purbeck is a haven of beauty, featuring Lulworth Cove's sheltered bay and crystal-clear waters. Just around the corner, Durdle Door, a natural limestone arch, sets the stage for coastal walks and views so stunning, they might bring a tear to your eye. For the adventurers among us, the Dorset Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, are calling. Hiking trails such as the South West Coast Path and the Wessex Ridgeway offer a rollercoaster ride through diverse scenery, from cliffs to heathlands.

Dorset's culinary scene is a delightful fusion of tradition and modernity. You will savour local produce at farmers' markets, indulge in fresh seafood along the coast and let the county's pubs and tearooms be your warm and welcoming retreat for traditional cream teas or a sip of local ales.

Dorset is an experience that seamlessly blends history, natural beauty and that quintessential British charm. It promises an adventure that captures the very essence of England's southwest.

  • Awaiting our fifth stay

    Created on 22/09/2022

Our fourth visit and we still enjoy Wimborne House as much as the first time. A beautiful, interesting building in a great location. All our needs are well-catered for with a warm, comfortable vibe. Looking forward to the next time.

  • Thank you!

We booked Wimborne House for our son's wedding in Wimborne and it could not have been more perfect. Very clean, well furnished and exceptionally well equipped accommodation with a glorious outlook from Apple and Plum cottages over the surrounding countryside. The delicious welcome pack of essentials and vase of fresh flowers were a special touch. Jonathan and staff were charming and super helpful. A truly memorable weekend in an idyllic setting. Thank you

Great to have such a large lounge, big table to eat together and use of the hot tub! Excellent customer service throughout my booking and stay. Convenient location so close to Wimborne town centre. Great selection of goodies on arrival, including some yummy chocolate brownies!

  • Wonderful winter retreat

    Created on 11/01/2019

e were a large party of 14 and stayed at the house. It was a beautiful space large enough to accommodate all of us. Everyone enjoyed staying there and although we had some issues trying to light the log burner, the owners came to the rescue and we got it sorted.

  • Thank you

    on 14/12/2018

Such a beautiful place to hold our spect birthday celebration. Three generations of family were catered for the grandchildren loved the hot tub and the games room as did the adults. The accommodation was lovely and spacious we all had plentiful room to slip off if we wanted to. We all loved the decor and attention to detail in every room. Our dogs Rico and Chico has great fun in the safe garden. The goodies left for us was a lovely touch and the chocolate brownies were the best we have ever had. All in all it was a very special week for us all.

  • Perfect for the whole family

    Created on 16/11/2018

A really clean, comfortable house with plenty of space, a well equipped kitchen and helpful staff around to advise when needed. The games room is amazing for kids big and small and ours loved having movie evenings on the big screen (thanks for the free movies!). The garden is fantastic; lots of space and enclosed so kids can run around care free. We also loved the cafe and shop next door and had a lovely walk around the grounds and garden. The village is Wimborne is picturesque and a great palace to explore as well as being a great access point to the Jurassic coast and lots of different attractions for families. We were a large party of adults and kids aged 5 - 9, we found our stay to be very enjoyable for everyone and we’d definitely come again.

  • A fantastic place to spend my 60th birthday

    Created on 23/10/2018

The warmth from the aga greeted us as soon as we opened the front door.
The house has a warm and homely feel and was enjoyed by all our family ranging in age from 15 months up to 60 years!!
The house is ideally situated as there are many places to eat within walking distance .
The games room and hot tub are an added bonus and were enjoyed by all.

  • We all loved the house

    Created on 20/10/2018

We have a great four days. We lit the log fire every evening which made us feel very at home. The welcome pack of goodies and the flowers were a nice touch. Hopefully we will all return next year. Thankyou so much.

  • A welcoming country retreat

    Created on 10/10/2018

Warm feel to the house both in terms of comfort and ambience. We were only a couple but the price was still reasonable for the generous facilities and expansive kitchenware. The kitchen was special as the Aga made it a cosy place to enjoy an evening meal after a day's hiking!! Lovely rooms, tastefully decorated and would be great for a family or group of friends - clean and well maintained. Very quiet at night even though it was within town. Great location for exploring East Dorset, the coast as well as the lovely walks through the Kingston Lacy estate and at Holt Heath.

  • Excellent

    Created on 05/10/2018

Completely met our (high) expectations. Our group ranged from 69 years to 19 months old and every single one of us really enjoyed our stay

  • Wonderful!

    Created on 05/10/2018

We had a great week end stay. 11 adults and 1 child. Plenty of space, beautiful bedrooms, comfortable furnishings and so well equipped!!! A welcome pack that can only be described as delicious and generous. Log fire with plenty of logs and the addition of the hot tub, what can I say but inspired! We didn't use the Apple TV or play video games (maybe we're too old for that) but I'm sure others will find the upgrade a real bonus. This was our 3rd...or maybe 4th visit and we're back again next December for a Christmas break. There are so few places out there with enough bathrooms for so many people, but the House delivers on that front too. Easy walking to town and a downstairs bedroom which resolved the issue of accesibily for me while I'm on crutches.

  • Enchanting stay

    Created on 28/09/2018

A group of watercolour painters from Salisbury - just down the road - felt like we had entered a different world - so comfortable and calm, spacious and elegant. We found many things to excite the brushes and the pencils and, with all our basic daily needs sorted, we created in spades. We can't wait for another dose of magic.

  • We’ve booked for next year!

    Created on 16/08/2018

The house met the needs of our multigenerational family aged 11-80, perfectly. We loved the interesting furnishings, thoughtful touches and plenty of space.

  • Wonderful stay

    Created on 08/08/2018

We booked the Cottage for a week in August to celebrate my partner's birthday and couldn't have been more delighted with our choice. It is located virtually in the centre of Wimborne, yet manages to feel like you're a world away, with stunning views of the Wimborne Minster and the surrounding fields. The cottage itself is just beautiful and decorated in a simple, tasteful way and the garden is amazing, particularly for energetic children (our sone particularly loved the shepherd's hut). It's a great base for exploring Dorset and we managed numerous trips to the coast, in addition to making to most of Wimborne itself. All in all, it was such a truly wonderful week at the Cottage, if I could buy it right now, I would.

  • A great stay

    Created on 15/06/2018

he house was perfectly set up for our two family’s, with a lovely stylish more adult living room, and very trendy games room. The kitchen was a very well equipped rooms .....Nothing else we wanted for whilst staying here. Lots of hot water for everyone to shower/bath. The hot tub was a lovely added luxury. And within a short stroll of the shops and cafes.

  • All Perfect! A truely memorable stay that everyone enjoyed. Thank you!

Such a wonderful venue for a reunion get-together. Beautifully furnished house coped with 6 couples easily. Dining room perfect for a formal sit down meal and the kitchen big enough for us to stand around informally chatting, drinking coffee and eating toast. Log fire in lounge great for relaxing. Media room excellent for playing music... and a hot tub which we did not get around to using.

  • Lovely holiday home

Beautiful house in a great location just steps away from the centre of Wimborne. Lovely welcome hamper with yummy chocolate brownies, bread, eggs and apple juice. Very well equipped and lovely Ren toiletries. The hot tub was a real treat even when it was snowing most of the weekend!

  • Loved the hot tub

rom the moment we stepped through the curved front door, we fell in love with the house. We'd seen the photos, of course, but the reality was even more comfortable and stylish than we'd imagined. The house very quickly became "home" and it was great to have a sitting room and dining room large enough to accommodate us all. The hot tub was great fun especially in the early mornings when the temperature outside was only just above freezing!
