It was terrific that the beach, shops and restaurants were all within easy walking distance
Villa Bonita's secure and private grounds give you extra peace of mind when it comes to the kids
The outdoor bathroom and shower are convenient for using the pool
What you should know
Not all of the villa’s bedrooms are located on the same floor, which could be an issue for those travelling with very young children
Please note that even though the villa is ideally located and in walking distance from local amenities, it is situated on a hill, so a car is recommended
Naturists frequent some areas of Son Bou beach
Villa Bonita’s private pool is accessed via steps and a handrail and is unfenced, so little ones should be well-supervised when playing in the area

Villa Bonita is located in a prime spot just metres from the ocean and the much-celebrated Son Bou beach - one of the longest stretches on the island. This easily accessible beach can get busy during the summer months, largely due to the family-friendly amenities such as plenty of lifeguards, sun loungers and parasol hire, and the availability of water sports activities. You’ll find Club San Jaime near the beach, which is open from late morning until early evening and features some exciting water slides that the kids (and the adults!) will enjoy.
In the town centre of Son Bou, you’ll find a shopping centre with several good supermarkets, ideal for self-catering, as well as plenty of places to buy trinkets and souvenirs. There are also ATMs, a good taxi rank, and an excellent bus service available if you want to travel a little further afield to Santo Tomas, which is also accessible along the coastal path if you fancy the walk. A slightly quieter resort than Son Bou, this beautiful village is popular with families with young children. It is a nature-lovers paradise that features gorgeous remote beaches, countryside walks and cycling tracks.
If you’d rather stay put in Son Bou, there is a good selection of bars and restaurants that cater to all tastes and budgets. For example, Casa Andres, which specialises in international cuisine as well as Mediterranean dishes and seafood, or Es Forn de Torre Soli Nou, where you can sample delicious Spanish meat dishes. Buddha Cafe bar is the place to go for late-night musical entertainment, and cocktail bars such as La Roca and Mai-Tai are also popular with tourists. Sports enthusiasts will enjoy Kit-Kat bar, a sports bar where you can catch all the latest English football games, and several welcoming beach bars along the coast - perfect places for sipping a fruity drink while taking in the glorious sunsets.

The Region
The resort of Son Bou in the municipality of Alaior, on the south coast of Menorca, is renowned for having the biggest and probably best beach on the island. The resort is located around 20 kilometres from the international airport at Mahon.
Son Bou is a well-developed area containing many restaurants offering a good range of British, Indian, Chinese and Mediterranean dishes, as well as numerous bars, some of which are themed to help entertain young ones.
While the resort is very popular for families, the sheer size of the beach makes it easy for those who prefer to avoid the little ones to find their ideal spots! There is an abundance of natural sand dunes that make a very pleasant backdrop.
