Casa Compostela is a gorgeous secluded six-bedroom house sleeping up to 14 guests. Enjoying a surrounding private forest, this beautiful retreat is only 15-20 minutes from Santiago de Compostela. It is a wonderfully relaxing retreat and is positioned perfectly in order to enjoy the very best of this unique region. Galicia is known as the land of witches and offers an alternative Spain to tourists. The wild Atlantic coastline, medieval monasteries, spectacular green countryside, and strong Celtic connections make this a perfect region for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers and those looking for a unique experience. It's not unlike Scotland, even to the extent that bagpipes are played on special occasions.

Casa Compostela is a stunning retreat built over three floors, incorporating traditional features with contemporary design. You can expect light streaming in from panoramic windows, double-height ceilings, sleek glass and stone walls, and minimal contemporary furnishings complemented by a neutral palette with bold splashes of colour.

The property benefits from a stylish, sleek open-plan living space with enormous double-height windows, a chic feature fireplace and sizeable comfy plush sofas and chairs. A second snug living space is perfect for relaxing in, with an oversized sofa and large smart TV. There is a sophisticated dining space with an elegant table and chairs, and features glass walls perfect for extravagant dinner parties.

The kitchen dining area offers a large colourful dining space great for a relaxed get-together, and the spacious contemporary, white kitchen is well equipped and enjoys all the mod cons, including a breakfast bar and dishwasher. This floor also benefits from underfloor heating, perfect for the cooler months, and a bedroom with a double bed and en-suite shower. There's also a guest toilet on this floor to use.

Upstairs on the first floor, there are five spacious bedrooms that all enjoy en-suite bathrooms. The main suite, with a double bed, enjoys the added luxury of its own private terrace. Two further bedrooms have flexible twin beds, one bedroom has a double bed, and the remaining bedroom has bunk beds. This floor also has a lovely reading/relaxation space with oversized loungers and floor-to-ceiling views of the garden. The top floor is a great space for the kids. There is a large chill-out area with a Smart TV, a perfect relaxation space after long exciting adventures exploring Galicia, and two sofa beds that are great for kids to use.

The property further benefits from a separate laundry room with a washing machine, dryer and ironing facilities and there is an indoor garage accessed through the ground floor that houses up to 3 cars. Outside there is plenty of space alongside a covered terrace and a large dining area. The wonderful backdrop of the forest surrounds this property, and al-fresco dining is going to be magical in your own private haven.

Galicia is located in the top western corner of Spain, above Portugal. It has its own customs, culture, food and language and feels very different from the usual Spanish tourist spots. It is also known for its stunning scenery and nature and is known as being a 'greener' part of Spain. Casa Compostela is secluded and private, surrounded by said nature. Your nearest village and supermarkets are only a short drive away, and you can enjoy the Tambre River, which is about a 10-minute walk from the property. There are also plenty of activities not far from the house, so if you are a golf or horse riding enthusiast, this is the place for you.

Santiago de Compostela is Galicia's most famous city and is only 15-20 minutes by car from your wonderful sanctuary. Overflowing with legends and beauty, over 300,000 Camino pilgrims venture to Santiago de Compostela each year. The massive cathedral dominates the cityscape and is considered one of the most beautiful medieval buildings in Europe. The stunning town is full of history, and the city's Old Town was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Expect beautiful parks, great museums and fabulous stone architecture. As you meander through winding streets, be sure to sample some local dishes, such as polbo a feira/pulpo a la gallega (octopus), as the city is renowned for its food. Another great way to explore this magnificent city and the Camino de Santiago trail is to hire bikes.

Cabo Finisterre meaning 'the end of the world', is well worth a visit and is where Camino de Santiago pilgrims end their journey. On the Atlantic coast of Galicia, the peninsula is easy to access by car and easy to walk around if the weather is not very windy. The view is spectacular, especially at sunset, so make sure to have your camera ready for some great pictures!

The beaches in and around Galicia are spectacular, and a 'must see' is a trip to the uninhabited Cies Islands, which is an archipelago made up of three small Islands. This unspoilt paradise is ideal for hiking and is home to Praia de Rodas, which was once awarded the title of 'the best beach in the world' by The Guardian.

The Atlantic coast of Galicia's Rias Baixas is also Albarino wine country. You can arrange tours to the wineries from Santiago de Compostela, or you can book tours combined with Michelin-starred restaurants or small tavernas so you can sample the very best of food and wine from this region.

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Getting There

Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain. Hop on and enjoy the view from your comfy seat; there's even a Galician Tourist Train pass! This discounted rail pass gives you access to various rail routes created by the Galician Regional Government and based on key elements of the region. Follow the Lighthouse Route along the northern coastline and stop to admire the lighthouses and gorgeous sea views, or hop on and follow one of the Ribeira Sacra Wine Routes to visit the lovely towns and wineries where acclaimed Galician wines are made and enjoyed. Check out the government website to grab your pass and plan your trip!

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Kids are going to absolutely love Casa Compostela; there is plenty of space for fun and games outside, and the kids will have great fun exploring their very own forest! There are also wonderful day trips to be had in Galicia, and for outdoor enthusiasts and mini adventurers, this is a fantastic region to explore.

A boat trip to the Cies Islands with the kids is a wonderful day out. You can book boat trips from Santiago de Compostela, and it's advisable to book in advance. The Cies Islands have been part of the National Sea and Land Park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia since 2002. Set between the Atlantic and the Ria de Vigo, this natural protected area is an incomparable natural paradise. There are nine beautiful beaches, and Rodas Beach is truly spectacular, joining two of the three islands together. Enjoy great walks and well-marked trails and reach magnificent views on top of Alto do Principe over the Islands.

Vigo is Galicia's largest town and sits on one of the lovely Rias Baixas. There are plenty of streets to explore, and it has the largest fishing port in Europe. Close to Vigo is Baiona, which is the coastal town where Christopher Columbus came to after 'discovering the New World'. There is also a full-size replica of his ship, la Pinta, in the town.

Galicia has a wealth of history, and a trip to the Tower of Hercules in La Coruna Harbour is sure to excite those young historians. This is the oldest functioning lighthouse in the world, and you can experience its Roman origins as you walk into the lighthouse and visit its foundations. It has a beautiful path in and around the grounds with lots of sculptures to see and a small beach close by

The region of Galicia is a treasure trove of activities for families, and 'I'm bored' should not be a sentence you hear very often!
