Maison Illusion welcomes 8 guests in wonderfully peaceful surroundings. It’s hard to believe that this home was once where the estate’s sheep were held – more recently it has undergone a sensitive renovation retaining an abundance of rustic charm alongside attractive furnishings and features.
The wood-beamed lounge and dining room exudes such a relaxing ambience with dual aspect French windows opening out to the poolside terrace alongside an elegant light-filled kitchen and breakfast bar. The single-storey villa has three gorgeous bedrooms with tomette tiled flooring and en suite bath/shower rooms. The fourth bedroom can be found in a pretty guesthouse separate to the main house.
Relax in the Provençal sunshine as you sit back on the loungers around the private heated swimming pool listening out to the birdsong amongst the pine and olive trees. The pool house, where hay and straw was once stored, is now an inviting space for long lunches and al-fresco evening meals by the barbecue and pizza oven.
Driving through the estate’s forest, the hotel is just three minutes away – guests have complimentary use of its two outdoor swimming pools, fitness room and tennis courts. You can also arrange spa treatments, cookery lessons and wine-tasting sessions in this Relais & Châteaux hotel famed for its cuisine and wine. Gastronomes will adore the fine dining opportunities from the bistro and summer terrace restaurant to the Michelin starred dining room. Beyond the estate, note that Michelin starred Chez Bruno is just a 10-minute drive away too!
Meanwhile, follow hiking and biking trails through the hotel’s vast estate or explore further afield as you visit a wealth of vineyards and wineries, potter around picture-perfect Var villages and canoe/kayak along the Argens River. Don’t miss the Tuesday Provençal morning market in Lorgues, only 3km away, one of the largest in the region.
This is a great location for venturing to Lac de Sainte-Croix and the incredible Verdon Natural Park to the north, a paradise for outdoor adventurists. On another day, drive south through the chestnut and oak forests to the gorgeous villages of La Garde-Freinet and Grimaud before continuing to the French Riviera and the allure of Saint-Tropez.
Other Côte d’Azur gems include family-friendly Sainte-Maxime or Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël, around a 45-minute drive away, or head a little further to experience the glamour of Cannes or the wines of Bandol and Cassis.

About the surrounding area of Maison IllusionMaison Illusion enjoys a privileged setting within the estate of a 5* Relais & Châteaux hotel close to the bustling Provençal village of Lorgues. Lorgues is in the Var region of France, around a 45-minute drive to the Mediterranean coast.
If flying, Toulon Hyères Airport (75km) and Nice (92km) are the nearest airports whilst trains direct from Paris (or via Marseille/ Saint-Raphaël) arrive at Les Arcs-Draguignan (16km).
The highly regarded hotel, known for its gastronomy and wine, is less than a 5-minute drive away. You can use the two outdoor swimming pools at the hotel as well as its tennis courts and fitness room. There is also the option to book spa treatments and massages, cookery lessons, vineyard tours and wine-tasting at an extra cost. Across the hotel’s vast natural estate, discover hiking and mountain biking routes as you pass vineyards, woodland, the river and roaming animals – bike hire can be arranged via the hotel.
The hotel features various options for fine dining including a Michelin starred restaurant, a summer restaurant with a terrace overlooking the vineyards and an upmarket family bistro – in all cases, book well ahead and check opening days/times in advance. Gastronomes also note that Lorgues’ Chez Bruno, another Michelin starred restaurant, is only a 10-minute drive away.
In the local region, experience the beautiful landscapes on horseback, come across wonderful cycling and walking trails and look out for canoeing, kayaking and other watersports on the Argens River. It is also worth noting that Lac de Sainte-Croix is around an hour away, alongside the incredible landscapes of the Verdon Natural Park, a paradise for outdoor adventurists.
The atmospheric village of Lorgues is just 3km by car, especially loved for its vibrant Tuesday morning market, one of the largest in the Var region. There are so many other pretty Provençal villages to visit such as Salernes, Tourtour and Flayosc, all reached within a 15-minute drive.
A little further afield, drive through the oak and chestnut forests to the gorgeous villages of La Garde-Freinet (32km) and Grimaud (42km). Soon you will be approaching the French Riviera coast whether pottering around the canals of Port-Grimaud or experiencing the allure of Saint-Tropez (53km). On the other side of Saint-Tropez bay is Sainte-Maxime (44km), a family-friendly seaside town with great beaches, watersports and boat trips.
Heading further east along the French Riviera, both Mediterranean towns of Saint-Raphaël (43km) and historic Fréjus (41km) are less than an hour away or continue towards Cannes (75km). In the other direction, wine-lovers will appreciate the vineyards near the charming Côte d’Azur town of Bandol (92km) as well as Cassis (96km), a delightful former fishing village loved for its wine, also the gateway to the Calanques National Park.

Best Suited For: All AgesAs well as Maison Illusion’s own private pool, families have complimentary use of the tennis courts at the estate’s hotel, less than a 5-minute drive away, as well as access to the two outdoor swimming pools. A cot and a highchair can be requested if needed.
Across the prestigious hotel's vast estate make the most of the walking, hiking and biking trails as you pass forest, vines and the river alongside roaming farm animals.
Outdoor lovers will also appreciate canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding and other seasonal water-based adventures along the Argens River near Vidauban. Furthermore, this is a great base for venturing to Lac de Sainte-Croix, around an hour away by car, and the incredible landscapes of the Verdon Natural Park.
Other family attractions in the area include Provence Aventure or Aoubré l'Aventure Nature for tree-top trails and other outdoor activities and the ZooParc Du Cannet Des Maures.
For a fantastic day out, drive down to the French Riviera coast with the likes of Sainte-Maxime and Fréjus, both family-friendly seaside towns, less than an hour away by car.
