A spectacular 4-bedroom villa with a sea view to match, Hvar Stonehouse is ideally located for the island’s eponymous main town. Less than 5 minutes’ drive from the centre, this attractive property offers space and serenity and comes with its own outdoor pool.

The heated infinity pool is just one of the attractions of Hvar Stonehouse. The spacious grounds include relaxing covered terraces with room to dine and chill, sun loungers by the pool and enough room for children to play. You can enjoy the wonderful views of the Adriatic from the house, which can accommodate up to 8 guests.

Inside, you have a spacious, open-plan living area with beamed ceiling and feature fireplace. There is ample seating, TV and a well-equipped kitchen with a large fridge freezer, microwave and lots more. The area opens out onto the covered dining terrace with built-in barbecue.

The bedrooms have a rustic feel and offer plenty of space. Amongst them you have a twin room and a double room on the lower floor with access to the pool terrace. Rooms upstairs have access to their own terrace areas and most also have an en suite bathroom.

As Croatia’s sunniest and perhaps most upmarket location, the island of Hvar delivers an exquisite visitor experience. While Hvar Town is the place to find the restaurants, nightlife and activities, there are other towns around the island which are less developed and much quieter. The port of Stari Grad can take you by ferry to the mainland, where the magnificent city of Split awaits you.

As well as pretty towns like Jelsa and Stari Grad to explore, the island offers many fantastic beaches. Head in the direction of Milna to check out Pokonji Dol and the superb Mekićevica.

Considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful islands, Hvar makes for a special kind of escape. Characterised by lavender fields, olive groves, secluded beaches and pretty harbours, Hvar is the jewel among a set of extremely beautiful Croatian islands.

If you’re looking for beach life, Hvar has plenty of it. There are numerous choices, among them the bay of Milna, around 4km from Hvar Town. The lovely Mekićevica is even closer, but you can still take a boat ride to get there in style. Alternatively, wander along the coast, stopping by Pokonji Dol beach along the way.

Hvar Town isn’t particularly big but its reputation as the place to be ensures it gets lots of visitors. Many come for the nightlife (the clubs are top notch) but there are historic sights to see too, with St Stephen’s Cathedral and the main square of the same name well worth a look.

The huge Fortica is unmissable – literally – as it looms high above the town. You can make the trek up there to see a small museum, enjoy the café or check out the amazing view. Hvar is also a big adventure town, offering activities from windsurfing to climbing and Jeep safaris, and is great for festivals too – come in summer for music on the streets.

While the beaches around Hvar Town can get busy, along with the town in general, much of the island is fairly quiet. If you fancy a change of scene, Stari Grad is the island’s oldest town, featuring characterful narrow streets and pretty squares. Take a look around the harbour (Stari Grad is the island’s main port and where the ferries from Split arrive) and Lanterna beach.

The furthest point east on the island, Sucuraj, is also a well-preserved old town which serves as a departure point for the mainland – from here you can cross to Drvenik, around 30 minutes’ drive down the coast from Makarska and the Biokovo Mountains. If you prefer to stay on the western side of Hvar, closer to Hvar Town, you could stop by pretty Jelsa or the charming Bay Lučišća, not far from Sveta Nedjelja. A little more remote, this is a wonderful secret beach to uncover.

Region

The island of Hvar stands out as one of Croatia's most enchanting destinations - a picturesque paradise that seamlessly combines natural beauty, historical charm and a lively cultural scene. The sun-drenched island’s stunning landscapes provide a picture-perfect backdrop to a whole wealth of
unforgettable experiences.

At the heart of the island is the port town of Hvar, a historic gem known for its well-preserved architecture and timeless allure. Take a wander through the traffic-free labyrinth of narrow streets, where you can soak up the charm of the island. The central square of Hvar Town is a bustling hub surrounded by centuries-old buildings and lively cafes - it’s a popular spot to enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine from one of the many cafes and restaurants. The square is also home to the imposing St. Stephen's Cathedral, a beautiful example of Dalmatian Renaissance architecture.

Overlooking the town is the Hvar Fortress, a medieval citadel with a history dating back to the 13th century. The fortress is worthy of a visit for the epic panoramic views that stretch across the town and the Adriatic Sea. The ascent is especially rewarding it at sunset, when you can watch the town's
lights sparkle below.

Heading inland just a few kilometres from Hvar Town, the village of Velo Grablje is famous for its lavender fields. Visit during the summer and you'll be treated to the sight and scent of the vast fields in full bloom. The island is also celebrated for its vineyards and olive groves, producing some of Croatia's best wines and olive oils. Many wineries and oil mills offer tastings and tours, allowing
you to sample these local delights while learning about traditional production methods.

Just a short boat ride from the harbour of Hvar are the Pakleni Islands, a group of islets renowned for their pristine beaches, hidden coves, and emerald sea. The idyllic surroundings offer a tranquil escape from the bustle of the main island, making it a favoured day trip destination. Explore hidden
bays, discover secluded beaches, and enjoy water sports in this unspoiled paradise. The uninhabited resort of Palmižana on the island of Sveti Clement is a particular highlight - a hidden oasis known for its lush botanical gardens and crystal-clear water.

For outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, Hvar's natural beauty provides a picturesque playground. Hvar offers numerous cycling trails for both beginners and experienced riders. The island's diverse terrain is ideal for exploring the charming villages, olive groves, and vineyards on two wheels. Or for a unique perspective of the islands scenic beauty, you can experience the Adriatic up close and paddle along the dramatic coastline in a kayak, discovering coves and sea caves.

Hvar, is a Mediterranean paradise that promises an array of unforgettable experiences. Whether you're wandering through the historic streets of Hvar Town, discovering hidden coves on the Pakleni Islands, or savouring local wines and delicacies, the island offers a blend of cultural exploration, natural beauty, and relaxation that's hard to match.

The kids are going to love the fun vibe of Hvar – the island knows how to make visitors of all ages feel welcome.  If your kids like the beach they are certainly in for a treat, with crystal clear waters and lots of opportunities to swim in them. Not far from Hvar Town, you have the lovely Pokonji Dol and Mekićevica, or why not get a boat ride out to the Pakleni Islands? This archipelago lies not far from Hvar Town and visiting the gorgeous beaches of its islands is the thing to do.

It's easy to grab a water taxi to get wherever you want to go. Other options include Milna, not far down the coast from Hvar Town, and Dubovica where there is a restaurant and beach bar looking out on the Adriatic. If they would like to view it from a different angle, take them up to the imposing Fortica fortress which sits above Hvar Town. It’s a bit of a climb, but a rewarding one.

Visit during the summer and you should be able to see the island’s vast lavender fields in full bloom. An annual festival in Velo Grablje showcases the fragrant flower in all sorts of events, or you could simply go for a bike ride to admire the sight and scent for yourselves.

If your kids are music lovers, the excellent Hvar Summer Festival extends all the way from June until September. Performances in all sorts of styles take place at venues around the town, including traditional Croatian music, jazz and classical.

Should Hvar Town get to feel a bit too hectic – and it does get crowded in high season – make your way north to the port of Stari Grad. One of Europe’s oldest towns, there’s a pretty waterfront area and plenty of historic buildings to see. The former home of poet Petar Hektorović and the Dominican Monastery are among the places of note, while Škor Square and Park Vorba, the latter with a children’s playground, make for scenic stops.

The town also has an inflatable water park and some nice hiking terrain, as well as a ferry port to whisk you across the wonderful Split, with its unbeatable range of family attractions.
