Home of some of the best beaches in Cyprus, Protaras lies just a short drive north of the dramatic Cape Greco Peninsula and National Forest Park. Its proximity to Ayia Napa puts a great many more family attractions within reach too, making this a fantastic area to enjoy a holiday.

A favourite of water-sports lovers, Cape Greco is a stunning location for snorkelling, off-boat swimming and cliff diving among other pursuits. Its magnificent sea caves and the idyllic Blue Lagoon are must-sees when you are in the area. The Cape Greco National Park also offers hiking trails, and is perfect for a walk or cycle ride.

Protaras’ many beaches provide opportunities to try water-sports such as scuba-diving, kayaking and jet-skiing, with Green Bay one of the most popular diving locations in the region. Named after its lone fig tree, Fig Tree Bay is perhaps the best-known beach in the area, and probably the busiest too. There are many less-discovered gems, so you can easily find a quiet spot if you prefer somewhere more tranquil.

Regular boat trips and catamaran cruises also depart from Protaras, while some excellent food and wine tours take you up into the mountains to try local delicacies with expert guidance. Well equipped with many bars, restaurants, supermarkets and amenities, Protatas also has child-friendly attractions including a small aquarium and a mini-golf course.

Nearby Ayia Napa also has lots for kids to see and do. Amusement parks, a water-park and pirate ship offer plenty of fun, while the resort also has some surprising historic sights they may enjoy. There’s a 16th-century monastery and the ancient Makronissos Tombs, as well as a sea-themed museum.

A little further out, about 20 minutes’ drive from Ayia Napa, the beautiful CyHerbia Botanical Park is a lovely place to spend the day, and has a maze, tea room and lavender garden that is stunning in summer when the Lavender Festival takes place. You can find many more eye-catching places to visit in Larnaca, where the Salt Lake and Camel Park are among the big attractions.
