Perched on the hillside near sleepy Kayakoy village, in Southern Turkey, is where you’ll find charming three-bedroom Villa Citlembik. The stone-built villa elegantly fuses modern and traditional style with a soft colour palette, natural wood and patterned classic rugs. This peaceful part of Turkey has long been famous for its stunning natural scenery including pine-tree forests spilling down into the valley and beautiful olive tree orchards. Listen out for the gentle tinkering sounds of goat bells.

The villa boasts a large private outdoor pool surrounded by several comfy seating options, soft grassy spots and lush greenery including beautiful plants, trees and vines. There’s also a rustic stone terrace with authentic ruined walls that add extra character and charm to the property. Whether you’re dining on the outdoor alfresco table (seats up to six guests), lounging around on a sunbed or even laying in your bedroom, you’ll be treated to stunning panoramic green forest views.

Stepping inside, you’re greeted with a bright living room with plenty of places to sit and relax. There’s also a fully-equipped kitchen with modern cooking facilities, including a dishwasher and microwave. For when you’re dining in, local produce can be picked up 2-3km away from the local shops and markets, and there are also top restaurants nearby for a treat. When night-time calls, you have the choice of three stylish and welcoming bedrooms: two doubles and one twin. The rooms all have bathrooms and balconies and are equally luxurious, so they’ll be no need to fight over them. Note: The ground level double bedroom has a separate entrance from outside.

For when you’d like to go exploring, there’s plenty of exciting things to see and do in the area including the popular Lycian Way trail and Kayakoy Ghost village – both within walking distance of Villa Citlembik. The picturesque harbour town of Fethiye is a short drive from Kayakoy village and also from Oludeniz beach on the famous turquoise coast with stunning swimming spots.

Kayakoy is a small village about 8km south of Fethiye in southwestern Turkey. The peaceful area is renowned for its beautiful walking and hiking routes and serene natural surrounds. From the villa, it’s a short walk to the famous and atmospheric Kayakoy Ghost village, the inspiration for Louis De Bernier’s ‘Birds without Wings’, novel. There you’ll find rustic abandoned Greek buildings, as well as relaxed, friendly atmosphere and traditional restaurants and shops.

It would be a crime (not literally) to come to this picturesque part of Turkey and not explore parts of the famous Lycian Way Trail.  It’s a myriad of paths that traverse the hillside and coastline from Kayakoy Ghost village. The trail spots at beautiful spots including Cold Water Bay (around 5.5km away) – a stunning and remote family-friendly beach with turquoise swimming waters and a soft, sandy shoreline – or to the monastery ruins of Afkule (around 4km away) on a cliff ledge.

For more fun things to see and do, Fethiye is a short drive to the north. The town is best known for its natural harbour and ancient rock tombs including the 4th-century B.C. Tomb of Amyntas carved into the mountains. You can browse the markets in Fethiye and pick up fresh produce or sample the local delicacy – delicious gozleme (thin dough crepes). There are also plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars for a drink or bite to eat, as well as Turkish Baths for a relaxing spa-like treat.

Jump on a boat to explore the coves and caves or near-shore islands. Oludeniz beach, popular for its sheltered and crystal-clear lagoon, is about 20 minutes to the south. It’s the perfect place to go swimming or snorkelling – look out for colourful fish – and there are opportunities tot take part in water sports. You can also visit Butterfly Valley, a designated nature reserve that’s home to diverse butterfly species. Further afield, you’ll find the Lycian site of Tlos and Saklikent Gorge.

Kayakoy

The "Ghost Town" of Kayaköy was once inhabited by a substantial Greek Orthodox Christian; Artisans who left for Greece in the populations exchange 1923. Many of the old stone houses have been brought back to life and the village is again alive. There is a bohemian feel and a mix of restaurants cater for those enjoying the healthy village air. The cute beach at Gemiler is the closest place for sea swimming here. The area was the inspiration for Louis de Bernieres’ novel Birds Without Wings. Whilst here do try the local Gozleme pancakes.

Local days out include the resort of Gocek along the coast, Tlos ancient site and the Saklikent Gorge. Slightly further afield are Dalyan or going south, Patara for its sandy beach and ruins.

Kayakoy Ghost village with its 'ghost' buildings, local shops and restaurants and bohemian atmosphere is within walking distance of the villa. It’s also on the trail of the Lycian Way – a series of paths that traverse the countryside and coastline. If you join it from Kayakoy, it’s a 5.5km walk to Cold Water Bay – a sheltered sandy spot that has calm waters for younger swimmers. Kids will enjoy eating at the DIY barbecue restaurants. For teenagers, there's local horse-riding and quad bike hire.

Fethiye, a short drive away, has family-friendly restaurants and more cultural sites. You can wander around the markets or the old town for picking up souvenirs for their friends. From the town, you can book boat trips to explore the coastline. Boats go to Oludeniz – where there’s one of the most photographed beaches in the world.
