Perched on the hillside near sleepy Kayakoy village, in Southern Turkey, is where you’ll find charming three-bedroom Villa Citlembik. The stone-built villa elegantly fuses modern and traditional style with a soft colour palette, natural wood and patterned classic rugs. This peaceful part of Turkey has long been famous for its stunning natural scenery including pine-tree forests spilling down into the valley and beautiful olive tree orchards. Listen out for the gentle tinkering sounds of goat bells.
The villa boasts a large private outdoor pool surrounded by several comfy seating options, soft grassy spots and lush greenery including beautiful plants, trees and vines. There’s also a rustic stone terrace with authentic ruined walls that add extra character and charm to the property. Location
About the surrounding area of Villa CitlembikKayakoy is a small village about 8km south of Fethiye in southwestern Turkey. The peaceful area is renowned for its beautiful walking and hiking routes and serene natural surrounds. From the villa, it’s a short walk to the famous and atmospheric Kayakoy Ghost village, the inspiration for Louis De Bernier’s ‘Birds without Wings’, novel. There you’ll find rustic abandoned Greek buildings, as well as relaxed, friendly atmosphere and traditional restaurants and shops.
It would be a crime (not literally) to come to this picturesque part of Turkey and not explore parts of the famous Lycian Way Trail. It’s a myriad of paths that traverse the hillside and coastline from Kayakoy Ghost village. The trail spots at beautiful spots including Cold Water Bay (around 5.5km away) – a stunning and remote family-friendly beach with turquoise swimming waters and a soft, sandy shoreline – or to the monastery ruins of Afkule (around 4km away) on a cliff ledge.
For more fun things to see and do, Fethiye is a short drive to the north. The town is best known for its natural harbour and ancient rock tombs including the 4th-century B.C. Tomb of Amyntas carved into the mountains. You can browse the markets in Fethiye and pick up fresh produce or sample the local delicacy – delicious gozleme (thin dough crepes). There are also plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars for a drink or bite to eat, as well as Turkish Baths for a relaxing spa-like treat.
Jump on a boat to explore the coves and caves or near-shore islands. Oludeniz beach, popular for its sheltered and crystal-clear lagoon, is about 20 minutes to the south. It’s the perfect place to go swimming or snorkelling – look out for colourful fish – and there are opportunities tot take part in water sports. You can also visit Butterfly Valley, a designated nature reserve that’s home to diverse butterfly species. Further afield, you’ll find the Lycian site of Tlos and Saklikent Gorge.
