Panoramic views of the turquoise lagoon and nestled into the peaceful tree-lined hillside, the stunning six-bedroomed Villa Harika is in a beautiful setting, hailing Kas, Turkey, as your next holiday destination – stat. Interiors are modern, dotted with creative artwork and splashes of colour and outside there's plenty of space for relaxing and recharging your batteries with your family or friends.

Villa Harika is elevated on the lagoon side of the Kas peninsula and is completely private on all sides. There are prime spots for sunbathing, alongside an alfresco dining and a shaded lounging area for the hotter times of the day. Enjoy an evening barbecue on the 'Harry's Bar' terrace with the outdoor music system or curl up with your favourite book on one of the comfortable, cushioned loungers.

The villa is split across three levels. There's a spacious open-plan living and dining room with two inviting sofas adorned with cushions and a mixture of cool, contemporary and traditional features like whitewashed walls, statement lamps and an intricately patterned Kilim (Turkish rug). Leading out onto the dining terrace, you'll find a separate library area and another sitting area with doors on to the terrace. Also on this floor is the fully-equipped kitchen for a hassle-free stay.

There are four stylish bedrooms on the first floor; three doubles and one twin, all with en-suites. The master bedroom has a separate stairway from the reading room, and there are two more charming bedrooms in a separate annexe – also all with en-suite bathrooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows across the villa let in beautiful, natural light and there's a roof terrace for soaking in the majestic sunsets. A further two bedrooms have separate access from the lower garden.

With the nearest family beach only 1km from the villa, swimming platforms a 12-minute walk, and the centre of Kas with shops and restaurants a 5-minute drive away, you're ideally located to explore this idyllic part of Turkey. You can visit the ancient Lycian rock tombs, whitewashed houses draped in pretty bougainvillaea flowers or traverse the Lycian Way – a popular walking trail which passes by the town.

What you should know…

  • The villa is on an incline, so it’s easier getting to the beach platform than it is getting back
  • Two of the bedrooms have access from outside and separate from the main house and therefore aren’t recommended for younger children, however they’re ideal for teenagers or those looking for a bit more privacy
  • There are other villas and homes in the area, however the villa is surrounded by a wall and is sea facing, making it completely private.

Kas is a charming hillside harbour town with Villa Harika sitting on a superb position on the Cukurbag peninsula, just out of the main town. It's a short walk down to the nearest beach if you want a morning dip. With a regular dolmus (minibus) service running into town and a taxi service, it's easy to get around. With a regular dolmus (minibus) service running into town and a reasonably priced taxi service, you get to enjoy the more cooling breeze on the peninsula and you can take off into Kas at anytime.

Despite a blossoming tourist trade, Kas has retained much of its historic charm and character. The cobbled streets are draped with pink Bougainvillea flowers and the houses fronted by marvellously archaic Ottoman balconies. The town's vibe is often described as bohemian; friendly and laid back and it boasts an exciting array of restaurants and shops to match all tastes and budgets.

The natural setting of Kas is breathtaking. Framed by the ever-changing hues of the Mediterranean and the dramatic Taurus mountains beyond, it is difficult to imagine a more sumptuous backdrop.

Kas is literally steeped in history. Built as it is around the remains of the ancient city of Antiphellos, it is unsurprising that it is within close proximity to myriad cultural attractions. The remarkably well-preserved Hellenistic Amphitheatre hums with a great atmosphere of antiquity and history. Other historic sites - including the Lions Tomb and the Kas Ataturk Statue - are easily accessible. It's worth a drive up to Cukurbag village to see the ruins of Antiphellos, which is one the Lycian Way walking route.

For the adventurous at heart, Kas will not disappoint. Visitors can trek, climb and canoe in the surrounding Taurus mountains while for those who fancy a beach canter, popular horse-riding tours take place on the much-celebrated Patara Beach. For the very intrepid there are several paragliding centres.

But during the hot summer months, it is into the fresh sea that many will be drawn and here Kas will not disappoint. Known for excellent diving and snorkelling opportunities, there are several great dive sites. Here divers can glide around an Ottoman shipwreck, the remains of a WWII plane and a reef formed around an old lighthouse- experiencing the piquancy of a real underwater adventure. The sunken city off Kekova Island - destroyed millennia ago by an earthquake - is famous for snorkelling and a boat trip is definitely recommended, as the area is stunning. The region is rich in marine life with the Loggerhead Sea Turtle - which happily habituates this coastline in numbers - being a notable example.

For those more inclined towards lazy hours basking in the sun, there is Kaputas beach - 18Km west of Kas - the stunning white sands of which are hidden away behind Patara's ancient ruins and the village of Gelemis. There are lots of beaches and beach clubs scattered along the coast, or you can take the water taxi from the harbour to Limanagzi or one of the beaches across the bay.
Demre, where St Nicholas was the bishop, and the ancient city of Myra are both an hours drive away. Slightly further afield there is a fabulous site at Arycanda, in land of the coastal town of Finike.

There is a weekly market in Kas every Friday. A boat trip on the turquoise seas is an unmissable day out. If you find you're intrigued by the site of the Greek island of Meis 2km off of the Turkish coast, you can get a day trip. Be prepared to hand in your passport and go through a lot of protocol, but it's a worthwhile trip never-the-less.

Kas have become boutique resorts, with cobbled streets and converted Greek houses, which belonged to the Greek merchants before the exchange of population in the 1920’s. Once quiet fishing harbours these days you are more likely to see traditional wooden gulets taking tourists to soak up rays on the sparkling turquoise Mediterranean. A boat trip is a must do, from the boat you can snorkel and usually a delicious lunch is prepared on board. Keen walkers should check out the Lycian way for designated walking paths in the area.

You cannot come to this area without spending  some time exploring the many Lycian sights, such as Xanthos, Patara, Myra or the sunken city of Kekova.

Patara is said to be where democracy started (they excavated stone voting block) and is also said to be the birthplace of St Nicholas, who became bishop at nearby Myra. The ruins here include an ancient theatre, city walls, government build and agora. The lighthouse on the site is said to be the earliest of its kind. Visit Patara in the late afternoon and finish the trip with a drink on the sandy beach watching the amazing sunset.

The Salikent Gorge is a great place to visit, especially if you want to cool off in the fresh waters whilst walking up the gorge. For the more energetic there are rafts and rings to ride the flowing waters. Further down you can enjoy a day canoeing toward the beach.

Islamlar sits 8 km above Kalkan. Once the place Kalkan folk went to cool off at one of the trout farms built to make use of the mountain’s springs. Today Islamlar houses many a villa, enjoyed by Istanbul Turks who prefer a holiday in slightly cooler and cleaner air. Here the locals grow grapes and pomegranates, but you’ll mainly see the men sat gossiping next to the local teahouse. The trout farms remain a place to come for a wonderful fresh meal, or a breakfast consisting of fresh local fare. The rocket will be the freshest & most tasty you’ve ever had; and the fresh chips cooked in olive oil take some beating.

By night both Kalkan and Kas come alive. Kas has more of a bohemian feel, people ambling through the cobbled streets, passing the ancient tomb in the street, haggling for textiles, carpets and other goodies, maybe stopping for the traditional Turkish ‘maras’ ice cream, a tulip-shaped glass of tea or a wonderful kebab in the shadow of the mosque. Most of the villas in Kas are just out of town on the Cukurbag Peninsula. A reasonable (5km) taxi or Dolmus (local bus) ride into town. Be sure to try the Piyaz, a white bean salad with tahini sauce.

Travelling along the coast, towards Kalkan you pass the modern marina, the children’s beach park (run by the local hotel school) and halfway to Kalkan the stunning Kaputas Beach, cut in a gorge with all different shades of turquoise in the sea.

Kalkan is a more sophisticated resort, with the villas built onto the mountainside. Evening are spent enjoying the rooftop restaurants, perched on the top of the old ‘konak’ houses. Then wandering to a seaside bar for a cocktail, after shopping for glass lanterns, Iznik pottery, handbags or pestemel towel. Do visit the ‘pastane’, local patisseries which do the most delicious morning pastries and you must try the ‘Gozleme’ pancakes at the Thursday market.

Other things to do in the area include scuba diving as the visibility is excellent, paragliding, horseriding on Patara Beach or kayaking around the sunken ruins at Kekova.

  • Highly Recommended

Posted by Michelle S on 12/10/2018

I have had the pleasure of staying at Villa Harika on 4 separate occasions over the last 10 years. The first time was in April 2008 when I went for a long weekend with a few girlfriends. It was a super weekend, we used the pool everyday and enjoyed the short trip to Kas where we shopped in the market and tried the local restaurants. The second trip was with a group of friends and their children, which is a holiday still talked about today, as the kids are desperate to return and enjoy the villa and pool.

I also spent a family holiday at the villa, again another very special time, and one we refer to often as being such a fun holiday and a perfect setting. The villa is so comfortable and has everything you need if you choose to self cater, or enjoy the local restaurants. The bedrooms are all beautifully decorated with very comfort beds. The whole villa is a home from home, as it has everything you could ask for, and the attention to detail in the decor is truly amazing. Highly recommended holiday destination.

  • Birthday Celebration

    Posted by Carole on 10/10/2018

I was fortunate to join a party of friends at Villa Harika for a special birthday celebration. The villa is spacious, beautifully decorated and has been furnished to a very high standard with care and attention given to every detail. It offers amazing views and good access to Kas and the nearby Marina. The pool and terrace areas are delightful but there are local spots for sea swimming too. I would highly recommend Villa Harika for its luxurious accommodation and excellent location.

  • Returning 16 years later...

    Posted by Margot on 08/10/2018

We made another trip to Harika last month and once again it exceeded to our expectations.
We have been travelling there since our daughter was three years old and our son one year old and have visited many times over the years . Returning 16 years later it is still one of the best destinations for a family holiday. The house is a dream to stay in, so well appointed, plenty of activities to keep us occupied and of course great dining and shopping in Kas.
We hope to be back again in the near future and highly recommend Harika as a holiday retreat regardless of the age of our family or travelling companions.

  • Perfect

    Posted by PR on 13/08/2018

Everything was perfect. Despite a very late arrival our host was waiting for us to hand over the keys of a wonderful villa. Located on a peninsula, this little gem and its garden of Eden allowed us to spend a wonderful fortnight rest. What happiness!

  • Oozing With Character

Posted by The Greenwood Family on 31/07/2018

We had the most fabulous time in Villa Harika last July - the house is so well equipped and comfortable - there is nothing missing. It is oozing with character, and thoughtfully designed, and there are lots of different areas to sit and relax, depending on whether you want the sun or the shade. The house lends itself to big groups because of its comfort and space - all the rooms are en-suite. The pool was the perfect temperature, the sunsets were magical and the location was great - it was easy to get to the town but nice to be able to escape from the hustle and bustle too. We would definitely recommend it, and will be returning!

  • Beautiful Villa Harika

    Posted by TS on 30/07/2018

The house was much more beautiful than the pictures. The scenery location was far above our expectations. Everything was very nice and quality. It was so beautiful and delightful that it didn't even want to miss our homes. Thanks for everything.

  • Amazing Sunsets

    Posted by ZT on 25/07/2018

The villa was much better than it looks in the photos. All the rooms are carefully furnished, the kitchen utensils plenty for large groups , the furnishings are immaculate. There is an en-suite bathroom in every room. We had an amazingly beautiful sunset view. We would chose Villa Harika again. We would like to thank Coşkun, the caretaker who helped us every day.

  • One of the best...

Posted by Alison U on 20/09/2017

Out of the many holiday rentals in which we have stayed, Villa Harika is the best; a beautifully appointed, superbly equipped, spacious house with a large pool and stunning sea views. The villa is really close to a variety of beaches with crystal clear water so choice wasn't an issue. The same also goes for the local restaurants - great value and superb Turkish food and hospitality. We would highly recommend Villa Myrager and Kas for a unique holiday experience.

  • 5th visit

    Posted by Sharon.P on 10/01/2017

Yet another wonderful visit (our 5th!) to this beautiful villa. The décor and style of the villa is a refreshing change from other places we have stayed in and the standards of the bathrooms and well equipped kitchen are excellent. The villa and the outside areas were clean, tidy and well maintained and we felt safe, even though it's a quiet area on the peninsula. Kas is great with plenty of restaurants and bars and some good shopping. It was easy to hire a boat for the day down at the harbour and the bus service into town means you don't really need a hire car, unless you want to venture further afield. Kas is naturally a lot quieter out of season, but everything is still available, just not as busy. We will definitely be back!
