Akyaka is one of nine Cittaslow accredited ‘Slow Towns’ in Turkey, on the southern Aegean coast. This beautiful town celebrates a slower pace of life, culture, nature and food! For foodies, you’ll find plenty of fish restaurants serving beautiful seafood. You will find other restaurants offering varieties of dishes, so if you tire of seafood, you’ll still find something to try. With various cafés, grabbing a cup of coffee and relaxing together, soaking up the easy atmosphere will be a joy.

If you’re looking for beaches, there are various beaches available including Akyaka Beach, which is a long sandy beach. This public beach is popular even in the off season, and thanks to its shallow waters, it is popular among families as well. A short drive away you’ll find the Cinar Beach Club. It is a secluded beach, although not secret so can get quite busy, but it has sunbeds and a small cafe.

The main attraction of Akyaka is, of course, it’s rural surroundings, the beautiful mountains and forests that surround you are mesmerising. Taking walks through nature can reveal some spectacular views, and you’ll see a variety of animals along the walks and rivers. Check out the Carian Way for local routes. The Azmak Nehri is a beautiful river. It’s crystal clear, with sea life and various birds. You can walk around or book a boat tour and experience this tranquil river. The tour is available at night as well, and this is just as beautiful. Additionally, you can swim in the water which is cold but highly refreshing!

If you want to travel a bit more then you can use the dolmus, public bus, to travel to Mugla which is the province. Mugla has the largest market in the region every Thursday! For those of you who love to explore, you can take a drive to the ruined city of Ephesus, approx 2 hours away. Ephesus was one of the most important cities in the Roman province, Asia Minor. It was once a port city, but when another port city was favoured over Ephesus, it was abandoned
Other places to visit nearby include the ancient sites at Stratonikeia & Caunos, Marmaris, Dalyan to mention a few.

Turkey is an eclectic mix of dramatic scenery, amazing food and a deep history.  A visit to Turkey almost always inspires comment about the hospitality, maybe because the Turkish people believe a visitor is a gift from God. A trip to Turkey will almost definitely inspire you to return. You’ll be following in the footsteps of many a famous person from ancient history.

The South West coast of Turkey offers the perfect climate for your holiday, boasting over 280 dry days a year and an average June temperature of 28C in Akyaka, with sea temperatures of 23 degrees Celsius.

Akyaka sits where the Kadın Azmak river joins the sea. Enjoying a Turkish breakfast or fish lunch at one of the many restaurants it is difficult to imagine anything disturbing the peace. Ducks and geese jostle for bread, fish swim past and bright green reeds wave in the slow-moving water, fed by cooler waters from the mountains above. Favoured by local day trippers from nearby Bodrum and Denizli, who gather on Akyaka’s wide sandy beach with shallow water meaning you can go a way out and the water is only up to your waist.

In recent years, Akyaka has become Turkey’s centre for kitesurfing and you’ll see all the kites in the sky, above the beach on the head of the gulf. There are several schools so if you fancy a go. Contact them beforehand, so you can get booked in as it is particularly popular during the holidays and weekends.
Akyaka is a member of the cultural Cittaslow organisation, recognising its connection with tradition. The local architecture of wooden balconies and white walled houses with terracotta roof tiles, bow thanks to 70’s architect Nail Çakırhan. The coast up from here has lots of small bays where you can swim and sunbathe, just drive through the forest and along the coast road to find them. Akyaka has a local market on Wednesday, or visit the huge very Turkish market in Mugla, which is the administrative centre of the area. In recent years Mugla has expanded as it’s university has gained popularity, but the centre still shows architectural signs of its Italian occupation last century.

For Turks, breakfast is a key meal, and you see family groups enjoying a feast late morning. Other than the riverside restaurants who serve a hearty feast, go to Sakartepe, at the top the mountain has the most amazing panoramic views.

    on 13/10/2020

    Short story: best place ever.
    So, where to start?

    Extremely friendly and nice host.
Amazing vibes, super cozy and clean place, with everything you could ever need.
kitchen, washing machine, coffe machine - everything is there.
The city is 10min on car: supermarket, atm, cafes - u need wheels to get there.
the best possible view from the mountain above is 25 min by car up hill, and 30 min easy peasy hike. the coast is 7-10 minutes away, also by car.
The worst thing is - you are not allowed to burn a fire outside (fire-safety).
The rest is perfect. the cats, the gardens, the design. 10/10 best place ever.

  • Wonderful- didn't want to leave

    on 24/09/2020

We chose the villa after reading positive reviews. We had a wonderful holiday, quiet, peaceful, believe it, we didn't want to leave. The house and the garden are very beautiful, everything has been well thought out. Burak is a wonderful host.

  • Really beautiful place!

    on 26/08/2020

Everything was as beautiful as in the photos, we would like to thank Mr. Burak for his effort and interest.

  • Great location!

    on 10/08/2020

Burak Bey was very interested both before and during his vacation. He was always available and welcoming. The villa is in a good location. It has a swimming pool and garden in nature, completely isolated from the surroundings. Burak Bey took care of the necessary cleaning and pool maintenance every day. It was a holiday that exceeded our expectations. Thank you Mr. Burak

  • Great Owner, Great House

    on 20/09/2019

First of all, before the villa,I will talk about the owner of the villa, Burak, he is a very wonderful person. The house was better than I expected, infact everything wash modern and clean, which gave me peace of mind. Despite being in the centre of the forest I did not encounter any insects or anything. I can't see anyone could find something to criticize. I saw many places in the Muğla area in my 4 day stay.

  • Wonderful and Recommended

    on 09/09/2019

Everything was wonderful. The Host helped us with everything, not just hosting the house. The pool is completely private so you can swim comfortably. It is also easy to reach the villa by car. I can recommend.

  • Perfect Honeymoon

    on 26/08/2019

We chose it for our honeymoon and we made a good decision. We think that we could not have such a comfortable and special holiday in a hotel. First of all, having a private pool was very good. It has a beautiful view overlooking the valley. House and pool cleaning was very good. As a result, I will definitely we recommend it, and if we are lucky, we will come again
