Casa Moscatera is a traditional villa with modern touches situated in a wonderful countryside plot, just 10 minutes walk from the beautiful Alcudia Old Town. With 3 bedrooms, it is ideal for a family of 6. The views from the courtyard of Casa Moscatera are across open countryside to the Tramuntana mountain range and Alcudia Old Town, so you have the best of both worlds. Such a feeling of seclusion and peace and yet you are only 5 minutes walk from the unspoilt beach of Barcares and a 10-minute walk into the Old Town.

In the compact Old Town, you can visit the twice-weekly, colourful market, walk around the top of the old walls offering marvellous views, visit the Bullring, the Roman ruins, museum and amphitheatre, taste some delicious tapas, visit the beautiful church and the quaint shops. The sandstone architecture looks prettiest in the golden-hued late afternoon sunlight. Just a short drive away is Port Alcudia with the charming marina and fabulous beach.

Casa Moscatera is a lovely property with a fantastic garden and outdoor terrace. The views are lovely. It is so peaceful, and the pool is great fun with its jumping/diving board. There is some play equipment for children. The covered terrace is furnished for lounging and alfresco dining.

The delightful living and dining space is modern with a stunning, modern staircase leading to the rooms upstairs. The beamed ceilings are very attractive and give a lovely, warm ambience. The kitchen is also modern with a breakfast table. The staircase leads to an open chill-out space and bedrooms.

There are three bedrooms in total, all minimalist in design. Two are doubles, and the other is a twin. There are 2 well-maintained tiled bathrooms to share. The terrace on the upper floor boasts wonderful countryside views.

Alcudia has a fabulous wide-brimmed, silvery-white sandy beach at Port Alcudia which is one of the longest on the island. It boasts crystal-clear waters and hidden coves with impressive cliffs as well as the sandy stretches. It stretches all the way to Can Picafort. For children, there is fun theme water theme park by the water’s edge, go-karting and crazy golf.

For art lovers, the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum is a dream. It is squirrelled away, just outside town in a beautiful sprawling Hispano-Moorish building with appealing white domes, tiled floors and doors and courtyard with several styles of gardens and the mountains as a backdrop.

The museum is full of curiosities, sculptures and various collections of modern and contemporary art and photographic exhibitions. The gardens are beautiful and full of granite animals and a wish tree created by Yoko Ono, where branches are tagged with the personal hopes and wishes of visitors.

The Roman ruins just outside the Old Town are called ‘Ciudad de Pollentia’ meaning city of power. The years of excavation revealed an incredible 12 hectares of ruins from 1st century BC. Around 15 minutes on the outskirts of the city is the Roman theatre.

Every Tuesday and Sunday, Alcudia’s famous open-air market takes place. There are two sections, one for the island’s farmers selling their produce and the other for shoes, handbags, clothing, jewellery and souvenirs. It is very vibrant and good fun.

The Natural Park S’Albufera is the Balearic’s largest and most important marshland. You will find a huge variety of flora and fauna, lagoons and wild streams and signposted cycling and hiking paths as well as observation stations.

THE REGION

The vibrant northern town of Alcúdia is truly a year-round location, offering life, history and culture throughout all seasons. Lying just one kilometre inland from the famous holiday resort of Port d’Alcúdia, it’s the ideal place to taste rich Mallorcan heritage without having to stray too far off the beaten path.

The pedestrian area offers inviting restaurants, cafés with beautiful terraces and cosy backyards, handicraft shops, stylish boutiques and Mallorcan specialities. Stroll by medieval houses, the proud town hall and the so-called Casas Señoriales, the majestic houses of past nobility. Here and there, you get a glimpse of one of the big, shady patios and time, and again you reach the outer rim of the town wall.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Children will love staying at Casa Moscatera. The garden is so big with lots of room to play in. The swings are fun, and the pool is great. The addition of the jumping board will add to their delight. It is 5 minutes walk to Barcares beach, and the massive Port Alcudia beach is just a short drive away. There are great views over to Cap Formentor from Barcares beach. Sail & Surf in Pollensa offers classes for children and teenagers in sailing and stand up paddleboarding.

Mallorca is renowned as a family-friendly destination. There is a myriad of different fun attractions from splashing around in a waterpark, horse riding in Formentor to admiring the natural beauty of a reserve to karting in Magaluf.

There are 3 waterparks on the island including Western Water Park in Magaluf, Aqualand in El Arenal and, close to the villa, is Hidropark in Alcudia. Hidropark is smaller than the other 2 waterparks but offers entertaining slides, bouncy castles, paint-balling, giant floating balls and trampolines.

Aqualand is much larger. Adrenaline junkies can test their nerves on the dizzying heights of Tornado and Tsunami, a 15 metre high half pipe. Smaller children will love Adventureland and Dragonland at the park. There is also a lazy river and a jacuzzi.

If you are visiting Palma, there is a lovely aquarium with more than 8000 animals of 700 different species in more than 5 million litres of saltwater. Visitors will take an adventure through the Mediterranean, Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans to the sound of classical music. The Big Blue is a very deep shark tank.

There are a few opportunities for karting on the island. Karting Magaluf has mini karts for children from the age of 3, junior karts for teenagers and race class for adults. XtremKart is an indoor track at Mallorca Fashion Outlets.

Reviews

  • Great location!

    on 20/08/2023

The pool is amazing and the house is just as described and very nice indeed. Great location!

My one comment is that considering the stress put on breaking crockery and glasses, and the fact that eating takes place outside and the house is marketed to families, a little set of plastic picnicware would be very helpful.
