Overview
Villa Piloto surpasses most luxurious villas in Galicia. Recently renovated to a supremely outstanding, up-to-the-minute, classy standard, it was voted by The Sunday Times Travel Section as one of 'The Top 50 Villas to Rent in Europe'. It is such an impressive restoration of an old country house mixing marvellous Galician stonework with baroque mirrors, polished cement floors, swanky kitchen and bathrooms and infinity pool. With four deluxe bedrooms sleeping up to eight guests (ten with small family members), it is perfect for a family or group of friends.
It is located just on the edge of Roo de Abaixo, a small village nestled into the mountains between medieval Noia and Muros in Galicia - just seven minutes in the car to the nearest heavenly beach. It is stunningly beautiful surrounded by lush pine forests, so tranquil and the views are incredible.
The superb garden has so much privacy you feel totally away from the hassle of everyday life. From the wonderful infinity pool and the sun loungers surrounding it, you can survey the breath-taking views. Surrounded by extraordinary planting, it is so relaxing! There is also a barbecue area for lovely family meals. Guests will not want to leave this house!
Inside, the house is a marvel. The contemporary design mixing seamlessly with the old traditional Galician stone walls is genius. The enormous double height atrium space containing the living, dining and kitchen areas is awe-inspiring. The sublime, polished cement floors, complete with underfloor heating, give the house a wonderful warm and luxurious feel. The kitchen is sleek and just perfect with bar stools. The enormous corner sofa faces the in-vogue fire place. There are two impeccable bedrooms on the ground floor, one king and the other a twin. They share a huge, palatial bathroom which used to be the old kitchen. There is also a fantastic, spacious games area with a classic 1970’s pub pool table and modern seating.
Trendy stairs reach the classy mezzanine reading area, decked with more seating and well-chosen mirrors leading to a further King and Twin bedroom. Again, they share a flawless bathroom. The beautiful balcony has splendid views of the church.
You cannot fail to be seriously impressed with this exquisite, impeccable villa. It will be very difficult to pull yourselves away to visit the wonderful beaches and restaurants around but you must!

What you should know…
- There are quite a few steps down to the pool area and the garden generally so this is not really suitable for those less mobile
- We recommend hiring a car to reach this villa and explore the area
- There is no fencing around the swimming pool, so children must be supervised at all times

You will feel that you are in the glorious countryside in this location but there is a shop close by, it is a 10-minute drive to the nearest beach and 30 minutes away if you want a serious surfing beach with water sports. The area is very unspoilt and with spectacular scenery and stunning beaches, it is perfect for a family summer holiday. It is sometimes said that the coastline is a little like Norway with dozens of bays and inlets littering the shoreline.
Noia, near the mouth of the Tambre river and with a backdrop of the San Marcos mountains, is 10 minutes in the car and Muros a bit further. With their genuine Galician culture and historic ancestry, they are both wonderful. With their many restaurants and musical entertainment, you will enjoy spending an evening there. Galicia is known for its delicious cuisine, especially seafood. Make sure you try some of the local Galician wine! Muros has a busy weekly market.
Roo de Abaixo is 25 miles west of Santiago de Compostela which is the jewel in Galicia’s crown. It has World Heritage status and many visitors wanting to explore and experience this historic town’s culture, unique buildings and architecture. About the Region & Getting There
About Galicia
Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!
Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.
Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.
Getting There
Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain. Hop on and enjoy the view from your comfy seat; there's even a Galician Tourist Train pass! This discounted rail pass gives you access to various rail routes created by the Galician Regional Government and based on key elements of the region. Follow the Lighthouse Route along the northern coastline and stop to admire the lighthouses and gorgeous sea views, or hop on and follow one of the Ribeira Sacra Wine Routes to visit the lovely towns and wineries where acclaimed Galician wines are made and enjoyed. Check out the government website to grab your pass and plan your trip!
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Piloto is a wonderful holiday destination for children and families. They will enjoy many hours playing pool in the games room and swimming in the pool. You can take them for lovely walks from the house, into the woods and beyond. It is a great house for family time.
Surfing, kite surfing and other water sports can be booked at some of the beaches. There is a real mix of beaches, those with rolling waves and great for surfing and others that are shallow and perfect for young children. You might want to avoid the naturist beaches with your young ones! Playa de Louro is reached through a little nature trail. At Monte Louro you can see dolphins coming out to play in the evenings if you are lucky.
Monte de San Pedro, La Coruna was a military fort but has now been turned into a beautiful park. You can take pictures sitting over the old canons! It is a great place for children to run and play. Take a picnic and enjoy the incredible views while you are there. You can take a giant glass elevator up to the top.
If you head to Pontevedra there is a fantastic museum at Campo Lameiro. It is an interesting UNESCO site and is well funded, displaying rock carvings from prehistoric times. The story of primitive man and his relationship with the environment around him is told through audio visual, reconstructions and artefacts.
Children will love tasting the tapas at the restaurants in Noia, Muros and Santiago de Compostela. The evenings are fun as a family as the Galicians are always out with children, parents and grandparents!

We loved the villa
We loved the villa and thought the service was amazing. Incredibly helpful and always answered our questions promptly. We could not fault the villa and it was accurately advertised.

Excellent stay
Excellent stay. The manager Lorena was incredibly helpful with advice on beaches, restaurants, making reservations and shopping. The house was top notch. Fantastic kitchen and living area and a great pool. A few small things need to be repaired or improved but nothing major that detracted from our stay. The food in the area was delicious and very reasonably priced. We will definitely return to Galicia.

Perfect peaceful setting overlooking the mountains
Casa Callaecia is a beautiful, traditional Galician house in a perfect peaceful setting overlooking the mountains. We loved visiting all the local towns in easy reach and the beaches were stunning. Lots of soft silver sand perfect for families. The villa was perfect for our family and the pool was lovely to relax in watching the sunset over the mountain. The local guide, Lorena, was very helpful and very quickly sorted any issues, she booked restaurants/taxis for us as needed. Patricia was very efficient and helpful with excellent communication and made the whole experience of travelling within Covid restrictions/sorting the testing requirements very easy. We hope to return!

Great Hosts
Amazing property, great location for exploring the beautiful beaches and cuisine of Galicia. Rupert & Maria were fantastic hosts. They helped us settle in and gave us loads of useful advice on things to do and places to visit. They checked with usthrough the week that we had no problems in the villa and were getting the most from our vacation. The villa itself was well-equipped, well-maintained and stayed cool inside even when it was hot outside. The views from the villa and the pool were stunning. It was only a short walk to a local supermarket for our self-catering needs and even some decent local restaurants if we didn't want to go for a drive. The closest beach was a 7 minute drive from the villa and was gorgeous. We will definitely return.

Thoroughly recommend the Villa
We stayed for 10 days and it was great for both us ageing 50 somethings and the 20 year old kids. The views are stunning and you feel you are in the countryside even though you are on the edge of town. The villa is really easy to use and thebedrooms very nice, especially the main one. The local town offers little so you do need to drive to get to cafes / restaurants etc. Noia, 10 minutes away by car is nice for coffees etc and Muros 25 minutes away is good for diner (great seafood). The best beach with surfing etc is 30 minutes away but is uncrowded. We did not try local beaches but there are some and although small look Ok. Pool area very nice....some items such as the boules, barbecue etc could do with upgrading but these were small issues.
Don't miss out! Reserve now and get a full refund if you change your mind within 48hrs.
