Villa Galego is set in the small Galician village of Codeseda. Galicia is located in the Northwest of Spain just above Portugal, the area is known as the land of a thousand rivers due to the vast networks of rivers that cross all over the region from the mountains to the coast. The climate in Galicia is a lot cooler than you would expect in Spain and has a similar amount of rain fall to the United Kingdom, this climate is what gives Galicia it's beautiful green landscapes. Don't worry, the summers here are predominantly dry so you can still make the most of the stunning beaches. Galicia is a region rich in history, tradition and culture.

The villa itself is located in the small and quiet village of Codeseda in the province of Pontevedra, it is a charming and rural place surrounded by stunning countryside and rivers. Villa Galego is a 40-minute drive from Santiago de Compostela Airport or 1 hours’ drive from Vigo Airport. From the double patio doors in the kitchen you can access the courtyard where you will find an outside dining area with table and chairs and a barbecue, ready for you to enjoy a long warm evening outside. While you are waiting for dinner to cook why not have a go on the table tennis table in this area or let the little ones play on the swing set. From the patio you can make your way to the private swimming pool area, this 10x5 metres pool is a great size to have a swim in, there are also plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas around for you to lay back and soak up the sun. Villa Galego is located in the small country village of Codeseda, this quiet town is a great place to have a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the main holiday resorts. In the village you will find a bank, a pharmacy, a local shop, a bakery, a butcher and a cafe, ideal for buying all the necessary supplies. If you are looking to do a bigger shop then the closest town is A Estrada which is a 10 minute drive away. Here you will find plenty of shops, supermarkets and restaurants.

If you want to head to the beach for the day there are plenty to choose from. La Concha Beach in Vilagarcia de Arousa is one of the closest beaches at a 45-minute drive away, this sandy beach has calm waters and a promenade with cafes. There are a lot of shells in the sand so bring water shoes. At an hour’s drive from the villa you will find one of Galicia's most famous beaches called Lanzada, this stretch of beach is 2 km long, it has fine white sand and clear water and is surrounded by dunes and greenery. There are lots of bars, cafes and restaurants for you to try and the popular activities include surfing and windsurfing.

Santiago de Compostela is Galicia's capital city; it is located a 40-minute drive from Villa Galego. This beautiful historical city is well worth adding to your itinerary. The city's old town is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the end point of the epic Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail. Santiago cathedral and Obradoiro square are just a few of the places of interest in this great city. The city of Vigo is an hour’s drive from the property, it is known for being a major fishing port in Europe and due to its location, it has its own micro climate, giving it higher temperatures in the summer and milder winters compared to the rest of Galicia. Here you can climb to the top of Monte O Castro where you will be rewarded with stunning views, in this area you can also visit the 17th century Castro Fortress and the ruins of a Celtic settlement. From Vigo you can access the popular Cies Islands, the journey takes 45-minutes by boat, this small paradise boasts stunning sandy beaches with clear water where you can take a scenic walk or lay back and relax.

Galicia is a region rich in culture and tradition so make sure you find a little time to taste the delicious local wine and fresh seafood, try to speak a little of their very own language (Galician) and listen some traditional music played on Gaitas, an instrument very similar to bagpipes.

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas. This small island, just off Vigo, has been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions; A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that Pontevedra gives water to travellers. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this City is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Villa Galego is great for a family holiday and has a lovely homely feel to it. The indoor and outdoor communal areas offer plenty of space for everyone to spend quality time together. The garden area is surrounded and enclosed by a high hedge so the kids aren't tempted to explore off site. The pool area is great for swimming and splashing about in and there is a small swing set and a table tennis table to have a go on too! There are local facilities in town so no need to go too far with the little ones if something is needed.

Many of Galicia's beaches can be windy and have a lot of waves, great for water sports but not ideal for the little ones to have a swim. One of the closest beaches is La Concha Beach in Vilagarcia de Arousa, it takes about 45-minutes by car to get there and is a lot quieter than some of the most popular beaches. Just keep in mind it is sandy with a lot of shells, so bring your water shoes. It does however benefit from having calm waters which is more suitable for the kids. Along the promenade you will find a playground and plenty of cafes.

If you are heading to Santiago de Compostela for the day then the children will have lots of fun exploring the old town, climbing up to the roof of the cathedral and discovering the incredible views of the city and running around the large square of Obradoiro. There is also a tourist train that departs from Obradoiro Square, the tour takes an hour and visits the city's main sights, a good way to explore Santiago without getting too warn out.

There are two parks in Galicia known as ecoparks which offer great fun activities for the kids. Atalaia Ecopark is a 30-minute drive away, here you can experience kayaking on the calm river Lerez and take part in family friendly paint balling. Marin Ecopark is a little further, located 50-minutes’ drive from the villa and offers horse riding experiences and a tree top rope course with lots of fun zip wires. Both parks are set in natural woodlands and have cafes and picnic areas.
