Casa A Estrada is located in the Galician province of Pontevedra which is known for its traditional fish and seafood dishes and it's vineyards and wineries. The Villa is located in the quiet and small rural town of Codeseda, this charming little town is surrounded by countryside views and rivers making a lovely place for a long hike or a leisurely walk. In the town itself you will find a butcher, a bakery, a cafe, a bar, a local shop and a church.

The city of Pontevedra is the capital of Pontevedra province and is located fifty minutes’ drive from the villa. This city is located in its own bay and is divided by the river Lerez, Pontevedra is known for its well-preserved historical city centre. Some of the top attractions include the Ruinas de San Domingos, the ruins of a 14th century Dominican convent, and the 18th century rounded Church of Peregrina, this church is devoted to the Pilgrim Virgin who watches over those walking the Camino route from Portugal. Finally, don't miss out on Pontevedras main church, the 16th century Basílica de Santa María a Maior, this beautiful church has a mix of styles including Gothic, Plateresque and Manueline. These are only a few of the town's features, there are plenty of shops, restaurants, museums, other historical sites and the local fish market – you can easily spend the whole day exploring!

Santiago de Compostela is definitely the city that springs to mind when you mention Galicia, located only a forty-minute drive from the villa it's a city you shouldn't miss. The historical city centre is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site and is the final stop of the incredible Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail. It can be quite an emotional experience to watch the pilgrims follow the last of the route's scalloped shells and finally reach the end of their epic journey. To get an idea of what it is like why not walk a short part of the Camino, there are many places where you can pick up the trail. Other sites that can't be missed are the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, Obradoiro Square and San Martiño Pinario monastery. While in town why not treat yourself to some local delicacies, Pulpo a la Gallega which is a simple dish of boiled octopus cut in to pieces served with olive oil and smoked paprika with a glass of Albariño Galician white wine which goes perfectly with seafood. For something a little sweeter try the famous Tarta de Santiago, a desert made with almonds, flour, eggs and sugar usually finished off with a decorative powdered sugar shape of the famous cross of St. James.

There are two fantastic beaches one hour’s drive from the villa. Moltalvo Beach has fine sand and is surrounded by beautiful wooded areas with pine trees. There are facilities to rent sunbeds and umbrellas and restaurants and bars in the area. The waves are moderate and it can get windy which makes the area great for water sports, there are also lifeguards on duty. Lanzada beach is one of Galicias most famous beaches it is a long 2km beach with clear water and fine white sand with sand dunes and green surroundings. There are plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes to choose from along the beach. This area is popular for surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing.

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Getting There

Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain. Hop on and enjoy the view from your comfy seat; there's even a Galician Tourist Train pass! This discounted rail pass gives you access to various rail routes created by the Galician Regional Government and based on key elements of the region. Follow the Lighthouse Route along the northern coastline and stop to admire the lighthouses and gorgeous sea views, or hop on and follow one of the Ribeira Sacra Wine Routes to visit the lovely towns and wineries where acclaimed Galician wines are made and enjoyed. Check out the government website to grab your pass and plan your trip!

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. • Superb in every way

Brilliant, personalised support throughout. They went out of their way to make it great. Highly recommend!

  • "Muchas Gracias!"

Patricia was an exceptional host for our Galician Holiday. I would highly recommend the property. They responded quickly and suggested a great chef Ivan, location, andcoordinated our van rental and possible wine tour. The Villa was absolutely incredible. Above and beyond our expectations. I enjoyed my 50th Birthday with friends and could not have picked a better location. The Villa is right in town, meat market, grocery, hair salon, coffee/bar right across the street but the villa was so private and peaceful. It was a perfect place for our group. The kitchen was great for making breakfast and lunches and dinner. Great grill! Apple orchards, orange, lemon and lime trees at our disposable. The pool was spectacular even the first week of June. Great water pressure in the showers and enough hot water for us all! I will come back as soon as I can. There are great walking paths outside the front door. The Church is 1 block away and your get to hear the bells! Thank you to Francisco and his family for the fantastic stay!
