Two more equally ornate and luxurious bedrooms share a separate family bathroom with modern facilities for extra convenience.

The outdoor spaces here at Cortijo Maria Camila are simply out of this world, featuring a summer kitchen and covered dining area for alfresco meals and a water garden with a covered spa cabana. Guests can spend their time here cooling off in the private pool, or lounging in the shade of ancient eucalyptus and palm trees, all while taking in the stunning views of the valley and the Mediterranean sea beyond - pure bliss!

Cortijo Maria is set in a hilltop location looking down into a valley - it's like being on top of the world! The surrounding landscapes are perfect for hiking and rambling, with incredible views that really need to be seen to be believed - for anyone who truly wants to get away from it all, Cortijo Maria really is perfectly located! The nearest city is Malaga, an area known for its stunning beaches, incredible food and interesting culture. This budget-friendly city is bursting with natural attractions such as parks and beautiful lookout points, as well as lots of museums and landmarks that are often free to enter on specific days. Some popular tourist attractions, such as Gibralfaro Castle, are free on Sundays, a couple of hours before closing time, and Malaga's Centre of Contemporary Art offers free entry throughout the week. If you're an art-lover, you can't come to Malaga and not visit the Picasso Museum, which is situated right in the historic centre of the city. The people of Malaga are incredibly proud that the artist was born here, and his museum is the most visited in Andalucia. Here you'll discover a vast collection of the master's works, including paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures.

Enjoying over 300 days of sunshine a year, it's no wonder that Malaga is a popular holiday destination, and its clean, bright atmosphere,  pedestrian-only city centre and revamped harbour area only add to the appeal. You'll find plenty of shops and restaurants to enjoy, as well as pavement-side cafes and wine bars, with tables shaded by large umbrellas - perfect spots for sitting and watching the world go by.

Malaga is home to plenty of beaches, with Playa Malagueta being situated right in the city itself, just east of the port. Featuring dark sands and a palm tree-lined seafront promenade, this urban beach offers plenty of great amenities, including sunbed and umbrella rental, toilets and showers, lifeguards, wheelchair access, and sailing equipment for hire. This Blue Flag Award-winning beach also features a children's play area, making it a great choice for families who want to spend the day here.

Food plays a huge part in Malagan culture, and the Old Town features some of the very best tapas bars in Spain, as well as authentic Bodega bars and traditional ice-cream parlours.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Cortijo Maria Camila lends itself perfectly to a quiet and relaxing family holiday that can be enjoyed by guests of all ages, while there are only double beds in the villa, for siblings who don't mind sharing or for kids for whom sleeping in a 'big bed' is all part of the holiday adventure, it should be easy enough to accommodate everyone comfortably. The interior and grounds are spacious enough for the kids to explore and play in relative safety, although parents will need to be aware of trip hazards inside and out, such as steps and fireplaces, and that the private pool is unfenced.

For kids who love the great outdoors, the villa's hilltop location offers plenty of opportunities for exploring beautiful landscapes. If you have any little artists or photographers in your group, we highly recommend packing their art supplies and camera so that they can capture some of their surroundings in their own unique style.

The nearest city to the villa is Malaga, which is well worth a visit if you want to take the kids to the beach and explore some of the cultures that this beautiful region has to offer. Great places to take the kids include the interactive Museum of Music, which is free of charge and features the largest collection of musical instruments in Europe. Here children can learn the history and origin of many of the world's instruments and how they are used to make the unique sounds of different cultures, and there are lots of interactive experiences to enjoy, as well as an extensive programme of live performances.

The botanical and historical gardens are another family-friendly attraction that appeals to all ages, featuring over 2000 species of tropical and sub-tropical plants and is a peaceful and relaxing place to spend some quality time with the kids. The most convenient beach to visit during your stay is Playa Malagueta, which is within easy walking distance of the city centre. This long sandy stretch has a Blue Flag award for cleanliness and is a great spot for letting the kids build sand castles and have a little paddle without having to travel too far from all the amenities the hub of Malaga has to offer.

Owner Profile

How long have you owned the property?
We moved here in 2009 and immediately began renovations. We have lived here for 11 years and been in business for 10.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
When we first came to visit the property, I already fell in love on the approach, literally at first sight! Driving along the ridge leading up to the property, you see the estate appear perched out on it’s own private hilltop with the Mediterranean Sea glistening beyond, with 360 degree views of mountains and valleys, and a lake below, opposite the sea. I actually said to my partner at this point, before ever setting foot on the property, “I want to live there!”.

Do you have a favourite room in the property?
That is a difficult question… The poolside summer kitchen at the property is truly marvellous and you can pass an entire day without realising. However, the covered back terrace is probably my favourite spot. It feels hidden, though adjacent to the main courtyard entrance, and it opens toward the valley and the sea with always a gentle breeze passing through the pines just off of the terrace, while the bamboo slatted roof casts filtered light to ease the heat of the sun. There’s a massive fireplace there for chilly evenings or a late event, but it’s the perfect place for a quiet retreat with a good book or for simple midday contemplation.

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...

Really do?
Explore Malaga. The city has invested millions over the past 20+ years in a steady improvement of the already beautiful aesthetic of the city, and in the arts and culture. It has a rich history, with Phoenician roots from 3000 years ago, and an old Moorish fortress in the style of the Alhambra from some 600 years ago. There are more than 30 museums, hundreds of tapas bars spread throughout the pedestrianised historic centre, a port area lined with shops, and busy beaches right within the city.

Really eat?
Guests really must book one of our private chefs for service right at the property. It’s not at all an exaggeration to say that the food served at the property is better than any restaurant within a 45 minute drive!

Really see?
The Alhambra in Granada is a site not to be missed. It’s the most popular historical site in Spain and one of the most visited sites in all of Europe. The history, the ancient architecture and the well preserved and replicated gardens are all mind boggling. The Mezquita in Cordoba is only a bit further afield and also an unforgettable vision.

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
There are some very dramatic hikes to be done very near to the property, but you have to know where you are going. The Sierra Tejeda natural park is mere minutes from the estate and the mountain dominates the view to the east. There are various routes into the park and you can walk all the way to the peak at more than 2000m if you have a good seven hours to spare, but there are many accessible trails with stunning views all around. I can explain how to find these or arrange a guide to show the way.
