Go on, treat yourselves! Chalet Gala is a wonderful ski chalet located in the heart of Meribel Village, a small hamlet of luxury chalets and converted barns and a tranquil village atmosphere. At an altitude of 1400m, it enjoys its own restaurants and bars with their sunny terraces, a bakery, shops and plenty of Savoyard charm. It is an exclusive, pretty village which is extremely popular.

You can take the Meribel free bus to reach the centre of town or take a lift directly from the village to reach the higher slopes and avoid the queues at La Chaudanne. The nearest piste and ski lift is just five minutes walk from the chalet. Chalet Gala is beautifully presented throughout, enjoys the most fabulous entertainment spaces and offers an assortment of treats including a jacuzzi and sauna. The chalet sleeps up to fifteen guests in seven beautiful bedrooms. It goes beyond your average traditional alpine chalet with elegant styling, tasteful decor and exceptional character.

There is easy access from Meribel Village to the whole of the magnificent Three Valleys ski region. Meribel is one of the most popular destinations for British skiers. Guests stay in wonderful, characterful accommodation, admire spectacular mountain scenery, ski in one of the largest and most impressive ski domains in the world and let their hair down at the end of the day at one of the town’s renowned apres-ski bars. Meribel itself enjoys 150km of pistes and the Three Valleys, including Courchevel and Val Thorens gives access to a magnificent 600km of pistes. Meribel’s fantastic facilities include an Olympic sports complex, a wonderful array of shops, buzzy bars, ski hire shops and gourmet restaurants.

The ground floor of Chalet Gala is home to three gorgeous bedrooms. Every bedroom in the chalet enjoys zip and link beds which can either be set up as twins or sumptuous kingsize beds. One of the bedrooms enjoys an en-suite shower room and the other two offer en-suite bathrooms with baths and overhead showers. The beds enjoy gorgeous upholstered headboards and are beautifully dressed with the crispest of cottons, cosy duvets and exquisite throws and scatter cushions. You just know you are going to get a good nights’ sleep when you step into your dreamy haven! Just outside the bedrooms on the deck you will find your jacuzzi and sauna, a fabulous contemporary pod. You just need to make sure you have some fizz chilled before you relax in the bubbles! The ski and boot room is also on the ground floor. You will definitely not be leaving with damp boots when you stay at Chalet Gala!

The ground floor living spaces are truly sublime. The space is open plan in design though separated into different zones. Firstly, your giant dining table and trendy chairs seat all of the guests at one sitting. It is wonderfully sociable for hearty breakfasts, welcome afternoon teas and delicious evening meals. The living area is split into two parts, one with stylish leather sofas and an incredible view, a perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks. Just beyond, the second area enjoys a roaring fireplace, Bluetooth speakers so that you can enjoy your favourite tunes and wonderful soft furnishings. The whole living space enjoys a warm and welcoming ambience where you will enjoy the ski holiday of your dreams. The kitchen is excellent with a huge range cooker and anything else you may need. One bedroom suite sits next to the kitchen with two single beds which can be put together, an en-suite bathroom and access to the terrace.

The remaining three bedrooms are on the second floor, all beautifully appointed and all with en-suite bathrooms. One of the rooms offers three single beds and the others enjoy zip and link beds. One enjoys a fabulous vaulted ceiling with apex windows, just wonderful.

Chalet Gala enjoys a wonderful location in Meribel Village, just five minutes’ walk from the piste and lift. The village enjoys a truly authentic alpine ambience and enjoys a good selection of bars, restaurants and shops. You can reach the ski slopes and Three Valley ski area directly from the village or take the free bus to the centre to arrive at La Chaudanne. The chairlift can be used by non-skiers and the area is brilliant for sledging, walking and dog sledging. Meribel Village really came into its own with the opening of the quad chair lift to link it directly to the vast Three Valleys.

The vibrant centre of Meribel enjoys a cinema, swimming pool, spa, boutique shops, ski hire, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. La Chaudanne, in the lower part of the town offers the famous Olympic sports complex where major sporting events take place as well as festive entertainment. As well as the pool and spa, it boasts an ice rink, climbing wall and a bowling alley for entertainment. La Chaudanne is also where you will find the ski lifts, ski school meeting points, an excellent creche and Le Piou-Piou children’s club. You can rent lockers in La Chaudanne and store ski equipment if you do not want to carry it every day. Meribel is very attractive, blending itself into its forest surroundings and using an authentic architecture style. The resort sits on the east side of the mountain with a good supply of sunshine throughout the day.

Meribel sits in the Tarentaise Valley in the French Alps within the western border of the Vanoise National Park. It is to the east of Chambery and south of Albertville. The resort was actually founded by a Scotsman, Peter Lindsay, as the Austrian resorts were becoming very popular in the years before the war. Although the development of the resort was halted during the war years, it recommenced in 1946 and it quickly became a very popular ski destination. Meribel boasts an excellent, fast and modern ski lift system offering easy access to the resort’s 150 km of pistes and the Three Valleys’ 600 km of pistes. It is very easy to ski over to the delightful Courchevel and the mighty Val Thorens. You can either buy a single resort lift pass keeping to the beginner and intermediate ski terrain or purchase one for the whole area. At its highest skiing point Meribel reaches an altitude of 2952 metres and the descent into the town is incredibly scenic. Within Meribel, the Altiport area is best for beginners while Saulire and Tougnete are for mixed ability and the Mont du Vallon with its long, steep runs is great for advanced skiers. This is all against a gorgeous mountain backdrop. Meribel itself offers seventy three ski runs of which nine are green, thirty are blue, twenty six are red and eight are black. The resort also boasts plenty of off-piste entertainment and snow park activities such as snowboarding, jumps and freestyle skiing. There is a snowpark at Meribel Mottaret and a moon park. Other sports available at Meribel include ice skating, snowmobiles, hang gliding and ice climbing.

Meribel is renowned for its lively, vibrant nightlife. The apres-ski scene is great fun with many expat Brits owning bars there. There are two excellent bars within a three minute walk of Chalet Gala. The resort has a true alpine heart and looks very pretty. There are plenty of boutiques and other shops.

The Resort

Méribel is a village with a true alpine heart. You won’t find blocks of hotels and purpose-built facilities here. Instead, the compact and lively town centre is picture-postcard perfect, and its atmosphere is quaint and fairytale-like. It is without a doubt the most romantic resort in the area and if you’re planning a couples holiday in the snow you’ll definitely want to take a closer look at Méribel.

At the centre of the world famous Trois Vallées (Three Valleys), Méribel makes up part of the largest ski domain in the world. Across the valleys, it has six sister resorts. You can either get a single-resort lift pass and keep to the fantastic beginner and intermediate terrain there, but you also have the option of purchasing a pass that covers the whole area.

The advanced lift system at Méribel will let you maximise your time on the snow and make sure you’re not waiting around in queues. With 67 runs to try out just in the resort itself, there is no time to be wasted. Just beware of the afternoon sun cutting things short on the west-facing slopes and prepare to get up with the sun if you’re after untouched powder. At it’s highest skiing point Méribel reaches an altitude of 2952 metres and the descent from this point is known to be one of the most scenic runs around.

Aside from the world-class skiing, Méribel is also known to be one of the liveliest resorts in the Three Valleys. Many of its residents and bar-owners (as well as plenty of its visitors) are expat-Brits who certainly know how to party. The après-ski scene here is truly top-notch!

Chalet Gala is perfect for large family groups, multi-generational families or perhaps two to three families. It sleeps up to fifteen guests in seven gorgeous bedrooms and offers a charming living space where children can watch a movie after a tiring day on the mountain. Children love the outdoor hot tub, enjoying the scenery.

Meribel is an excellent ski resort for families. You can buy family ski passes which can make the holiday a little cheaper. In the centre, La Chaudanne is wonderful with an outstanding complex, Parc Olympique which offers a swimming pool, gym, ice rink, spa, climbing wall, bowling alley and night club as well as an excellent medical centre. The ski lifts leave from La Chaudanne and it is a frequent meeting place and the place for many ski schools. With plenty of green, blue and red runs, Meribel is great for families.

The Altiport area is a lovely way to introduce children to the slopes. Its Moon Wild route is very gentle and very pretty through the forest. Children also love the themed areas and snowparks. The Inuit village in the Altiport area enjoys banked turns, a mini slalom course and themed games. The moon park boasts ten hectares of obstacles to practice on and take jumps for those that are looking for more of a thrilling ski. Le P’tit Moon is a designated area for young skiers aged between six and twelve years old. If they are tired after morning ski lessons, there are some delightful picnic areas at the start of the Saulire Express and below the Pas du Lac gondola in Mottaret. During the school holidays, the French ski school ESF operate a torch lit descent that children love.

Sledging is very popular. There are designated areas for it as well as a fully secure area dedicated to sledging for little kids. You can also sledge at the Rond Point area where there is a magic carpet to take you back to the top of the slope! There is even night sledging in Meribel Mottaret. You can sledge down the Himalaya green slope back down into the centre of Meribel Mottaret.

Children love popping into a wonderful ‘Kenothèque’ family centre with Méribel’s mascot, Kenotte. You will find fairytale readings, games, arts and crafts, Kapla wooden constructions, books, drawing contests, make up sessions, and many other surprises and highlights of the week on offer. Children also enjoy igloo building and cheese fondue nights which are available during school holidays for seven to twelve year olds. The sports complex offers bowling for children aged three and over. There is free entry to under fives at the ice rink and swimming pool.
