Overview of Chalet La Futaie

What Oliver loves…

  • Great mountain views from the hot tub (which comfortably seats 8).
  • It's only a short walk to the La Flegere ski lifts, which means more time on the slopes.
  • Wonderful double height open plan living area leading out to balconies on every side.

What you should know…

  • It's a fairly quiet area, so not ideal if you're looking for some serious partying (although Chamonix centre is walkable in about 30 mins).
  • You’ll need a car or the bus to access the rest of Chamonix's ski area.

This extremely comfortable luxury chalet in Chamonix that first opened its doors to guests in 2006, and has proved highly sought after ever since! Family holidays, skiing trips with friends and corporate clients have time and again been impressed with Chalet La Futaie.

One reason for its popularity is the unique (and superbly equipped!) open plan cooking area with dining, lounge and entertainment area on the top floor. Measuring an impressive 85 square metres, this wonderful space offers spectacular views of the Mont Blanc range both from panoramic windows that can be opened up to the lounge, and south, east and west-facing sun terraces. It really is an amazing place to kick back and relax after an exciting and energizing day on the slopes!

Interior & Grounds

Recognizing the challenges of cooking for a large group, Chalet Le Futaie's fully equipped kitchen contains a variety of appliances and utensils, large free-standing fridges and freezers, a 5-hob gas cooker and two electric ovens, allowing you the luxury of allocating one for meat and one for your roast vegetables or sumptuous desserts.

The entertainment area, with its comfortable leather sofas, is located at the opposite end of the lounge, offering privacy and fireside relaxation for those who have had a busy day on the piste or shopping, as well as a gaming console and home cinema.

On the two lower floors, Chalet Le Futaie has 8 twin or double bedrooms, all with crisp linens and tasteful furnishings and 8 Japanese style bathrooms, 6 of which are ensuite. There is a 6 seater hot-tub in the garden to loosen up those sore muscles after a day on the mountain too!

There is space for parking for 6-8 cars on the chalet grounds, snow-clearing permitting. In times of extreme snowfall, there is parking just across the road. The garden is also very popular with our younger guests who have plenty of space for building snowmen and other winter games.

Map, Location & Local Information

People have been skiing and climbing in Chamonix since the 18th century, and the town is still a must-visit spot for those seeking extreme Alpine challenges. With 15,000 inhabitants, Chamonix is a proper town in its own right, not just a winter resort that's active for a months the start of the next skiing season. Summer is at least as busy as winter with a multitude of air, water and mountain-based activities that offer visitors a completely different type of challenge.

Chamonix town has a very cosmopolitan feel thanks to being located close to both the Swiss and Italian borders, as well as its ease of access from Geneva and other international airports. The town is a delight in itself for shopping, sightseeing, cafes bars and restaurants. For the non-skiers there is a sports complex with swimming-pool, sauna, steam room, gym, aerobic classes and an indoor/outdoor ice-rink. Tennis and squash courts can also be rented.

For the culturally minded there is an Alpine Museum in town, and usually an interesting exhibition in the space next to St Michel Parking. Local artists also exhibit in their studios, homes or in hotels, which makes for an eye-opening view into the artistic side of town. Majestic Hotel is a popular venue for classical music and if you come to Chamonix in May, it is the venue for the annual Science Festival (so make sure you pack your goggles and test tubes).

For those wishing to be pampered, there are several beauty and hair salons in town, offering massages, manicures and a whole range of spa treatments.

The Resort

Chamonix’s reputation often precedes it, especially if you’re a seasoned skier and snowboarder – and it’s often cited as a resort that doesn’t go easy on those who brave a trip down its challenging slopes. Beginners definitely won’t get as much out of Chamonix as those who are comfortable tackling a black run.

That’s not say Chamonix is totally unromantic, just that skiing is a higher priority than anything else here. The scope and challenge of both on- and off-piste runs is arguably the best in Europe, but this brings its own share of problems. You can often be stymied when queueing up for lifts, and travelling between the various areas by bus or car can often make it feel like you’re wasting valuable powder time. The skiing when you get up to the heights is well worth it though, even if you’ll have to get up pretty early in the morning to find fresh tracks.

And as one of the oldest ski resorts in the world, you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied once the skiing is over at the end of the day. There are plenty of excellent restaurants to choose from, ranging from five that boast a Michelin Star to the kind of places where you can just grab something cheap and tasty to line your stomach for the apres-ski – and rest assured there are dozens of great bars and clubs to choose from! The shopping is excellent too, so make sure you save a few euros to spend in some of Chamonix’s most exclusive boutiques.

 - Loads of lift and ski pass information can be found here.

 - There’s some great links to equipment hire here.

Chalet La Futaie Reviews

  • Stunning Chalet

Posted by Stacey K on 06/06/2016

We stayed here with some friends during our trip to Chamonix to get married. After taking quite some time to research the right chalet to stay in, I can happily say that we would have struggled to find a better place. If I ever come back to Chamonix with friends I would rebook here in an instant, the place is really wonderful and a lot of love has clearly been put into making it what it is. Full marks from me.
