Enjoying a rural situation within a village that's surrounded by idyllic countryside, Moradia Mouros is a villa with all the feel of an isolated retreat, yet the beautiful village of Vilar de Mouros is just a short walk away.

Well-equipped and styled with care and refinement, this villa provides a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere ideal for unwinding and relaxing. The rooms have been designed to make the most of the picturesque views across the garden and beyond, with balconies and terraces from much of the upstairs accommodation.

On the ground floor of this two-storey villa is a spacious living/dining area decorated with natural materials and earthy colours for a lovely warm feel. A collection of comfortable armchairs and sofas sit around a coffee table, fireplace and television. Behind is a large dining table and chairs, positioned by patio doors that look out over the garden and swimming pool. A fully fitted kitchen with table and stools is ideal for enjoying breakfasts with the family.

Upstairs is a master double bedroom with ensuite bathroom and doors opening onto a generous balcony. A double bedroom has an ensuite shower room and window with views over the outside area. Another double bedroom and a twin bedroom both have an ensuite shower room and doors opening onto a terrace. All rooms have been styled with a charming, country house feel and fine furnishings add a sense of antiquity.

The large doors in the living/dining room lead out to the garden that includes a covered patio area and a shaded terrace by the recently installed swimming pool. A table and chairs sit on the terrace, making it an ideal place to enjoy a post-swim drink or meal. There is also private car parking available to the side of the villa for quickly getting into the car and out on day trips to explore the area.

Amenities are close to the villa, with the local shop in the village of Vilar de Mouros being less than a 10-minute walk away. There are some restaurants and cafes on offer here too, as well as some beautiful historical buildings to admire. The village is also home to the oldest rock festival in Portugal, the Vilar de Mouros Festival, and is held every summer.

The coastal town of Carminha is around 7 km away and is situated at the mouth of the River Minho, with Spain being just on the opposite side of the river. Here you can enjoy strolling around charming streets lined with 15th and 16th century buildings, shops and restaurants. There is also a weekly market for buying some locally crafted goods and a range of foods. Long sandy beaches are just minutes away from the centre of town.

Head south in the car for approximately 30 minutes and you'll arrive in the town of Viana do Castelo. Being on the coast, there are naturally lovely stretches of beach to enjoy, whether you want to lie back and relax or take to the seas for a swim or some surfing. A must-see attraction in the historic town is the Basilica of Santa Luzia, which sits dramatically on top of a hill above the town. You can take the funicular railway up to the church for some stunning views on the way, as well as even more breathtaking ones over Viana do Castelo once you reach the majestic building.

This villa is ideal for families, as it's just a short distance to the village of Vilar de Mouros where there's a local shop in which to pick up any forgotten or last-minute essentials. Children will love the outside space with its swimming pool and lawned area with a mature tree to climb or sit under.

A 30-minute drive brings you to Viana do Castelo and The Gil Eannes, a permanently-moored former Portuguese hospital ship that is now a fascinating museum. There are engaging displays brought to life with mannequins, original pieces of equipment and machinery that will delight children of all ages.
