Overview

Recommended Pool Villa/House Modern
Sustainable Collection
Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach Walk to Village Parking Space

With a unique layout that is perfect for a multi-generational holiday or large group trip to Portugal, Silica House is distinct and inviting, showcasing the best of the Comporta area.

The property is split across three buildings, including the main villa that acts as the hub of Silica House, and a further two villas with immaculate bedrooms and cute chill-out zones. Silica House has a total of five bedrooms, sleeping up to ten guests.

In the main living space, a bright and tastefully decorated kitchen/dining area seats all ten guests. All of the rooms have been designed with calming intentions, evoking a sense of serenity in this lesser-known holiday area in Portugal. Crisp, light-coloured furniture is complemented with splashes of colour from the soft furnishings. A mix of textures blends together natural elements, including wood, stone and wicker.

The main centrepiece of Silica House is the inviting pool and outside lounge area, where all three villas look out onto. Kids and adults alike will love cooling off in the water, relaxing under the trees or basking in the sun. There’s comfy seating dotted throughout the pool terrace - spend days enjoying the warm Portuguese weather with your loved ones, with plenty of outdoor space for the little ones to run freely around.

When it is finally time to rest your head, guests can choose from five beautiful bedrooms, some with ensuites. One bedroom is in the main villa, with four more divided evenly across the other two villas. This added element of privacy makes Silica House a fantastic choice for families who need that little extra space - perhaps if holidaying with grandparents or older kids. It’s also a fabulous option for couples or large groups travelling together.

The bedrooms are uniquely decorated, echoing the homely feel of the rest of the villa. Some of the rooms also enjoy exposed beams - a rustic touch in this distinctly welcoming home.

Experience vistas across the surrounding grounds from throughout Silica House with a number of private terraces, where you’ll also be just a stone’s throw away (seven minutes walk, to be exact!) from a picture-perfect, Portuguese beach.

Despite being just a 1 hour and 15-minute drive from the capital of Lisbon, Comporta is a hidden gem in the Alentejo region that combines the lure of the coast with countryside living. While many simply embark on a road trip to the village when staying in Lisbon or one of the nearby resort towns, over the years, Comporta has grown in popularity with holidaymakers looking to stay exclusively in the area. The village invites visitors to step away from the bustle of city life, and embrace a more relaxed atmosphere.

This secret paradise has gained attention from celebrities, seeking an uninterrupted escape and peaceful holiday. Comporta is uniquely located between rice paddies and the Atlantic Ocean. The white-sand beaches and fishing cabins are iconic to this area of Portugal, prompting a slow and tranquil pace of life.

Make no mistake though - despite the absence of hoards of tourists and thumping nightclubs, there is still so much to see and do in Comporta and the surrounding area.

The epic waves make surfing by the vast beaches a popular activity, while restaurants and cafes offer an authentic taste of Portuguese cuisine. Foodies won’t want to leave without sampling the black pig meat, an Alentejo speciality that is used in many of the local dishes.

The land is also rich in wine and olive production thanks to the nearby Alqueva dam. Spend some time visiting the numerous vineyards surrounding Comporta, and pick up a souvenir or two.

Of course, the rice paddies neighbouring Comporta make the grain a local delicacy. When paired with fresh seafood plucked from the Atlantic coast, you have a range of mouthwatering meals to try.

Continue to look to the seas and you may even catch sight of dolphins, creatures well-known for gracing the area with their elegant beauty. Explore the Sado estuary in a catamaran for a greater chance of spotting them, alongside other marine life.

You can also explore the pine forests or do a spot of shopping in the local boutiques in the village, with many products made from Comporta’s famed cork oak.

Beyond Comporta, the capital city of Lisbon is easily reachable via car or train and a highly recommended day trip. Just 20 minutes drive south of Comporta is the charming town of Melides, home to picturesque blue-painted houses, a covered market, and the breathtaking Melides Lagoon. Neighbouring Comporta, and again just a 10-15 minute drive, is Troia, an area that boasts one of the best golf courses in Europe and a marina that is perfect for windsurfing and sailing.

THE REGION

Comporta is surrounded by rice paddies, the ocean, sand dunes and pine forests. It's a unique place where you can connect with nature and live in the moment. Comporta has a rhythm and an ambience that are all it's own. This wild and unspoilt part of Portugal attracts an in-the-know international crowd, including renowned artists, designers, and A-listers.

Comporta has a remarkable diversity of natural systems with long stretches of beach, windswept dunes, scenic pine forests, salt marshes and rice paddies which become a vibrant green in June. The region is also characterized by rice fields and its main attraction, the Comporta beach: 20 kilometres of uninterrupted white sand, a beach lover’s paradise.

As with the rest of Portugal, you can expect sun-blessed weather year-round in Comporta. The best months of the year to visit Comporta for long beach stays are from June to September, while the spring and autumn months are still suitable for picnics or day trips.

ABOUT THE LISBON COAST

The Lisbon Coast is a sensational stretch of golden beaches, wave-lashed cliffs and vibrant seaside towns – but there's more to the Atlantic coastline than that. Delve beneath the surface to discover hidden coves, family-owned seafood restaurants and pristine natural parks.

The coast around Lisbon provides an easy, breezy escape from the capital, whose proximity has made it the stomping ground of kings for the last 1,000 years. In summer, Lisboistas stream into elegant Comporta and Cascais to escape the heat of the city; year-round, surfers hang loose on the coast, waiting for the rollers to crash down on the sand.

But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas on Lisbon Coast, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Silica House is great for a child-friendly family holiday, especially if you are travelling with grandparents or other families too. The ample outdoor space will keep the kids happy for hours, while the separate buildings offer added privacy when needed.

Older kids are sure to make use of the pool and chill-out areas - the only problem you’ll have is getting them to come out of the water!

Of course, the beach being just a seven-minute drive away is another big plus for Silica House. Have a quick and easy family day out without venturing too far from the villa - ideal when holidaying with little guests.

The Alentejo region is a great place to holiday with children, and families with kids will love the huge amount of activities on offer in the Comporta area.

Mostly designed to take advantage of the unique nature of Comporta, your kids will witness the joy of the outdoors in unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Horse-riding is a popular activity in Comporta, with several companies providing the experience. Climb aboard your new four-hooved friend and explore the exceptional landscape and exquisite views. Your guide will tailor your trail depending on your interests, taking you through the rice paddies and pine forests before reaching the paradise-like beach.

As well as horses, some companies also offer canoe tours and bike rentals. The cycle tires are prepared for the thick sand of the region, meaning your family can easily enjoy more of the Troian Peninsula.

Alternatively, there’s also the chance to kayak up the Vala Real, the main water supply channel to the rice fields, in an exciting group tour. Your kids will have great fun noticing the diversity of the wildlife along the river banks.

If your children have never surfed before, the gentle waves make Comporta a fantastic place to try it. Many surf schools operate in the area, offering classes for beginners too.

It wouldn’t be a visit to Comporta without a visit to the Museo do Arroz (the Rice Museum), which gives a detailed look at the history of the food in the region. Finish your day with lunch in the adjoining cafe - a rice dish, of course!

Pack a picnic and enjoy a family beach day on one of the nearby Blue Flag awarded beaches. Pego and Carvalhal are also a short drive away, the former being recognised as one of the best beaches in the world thanks to its secluded sand dunes. The Carvalhal sea is also calm and peaceful, with no buildings around. Here, your kids can truly let loose and run free.
