Situated up in the lush hillside, surrounded by pine trees and almond groves, the villa sits just outside the pretty town of Boliqueime, providing a rural retreat in the glorious Algarve, an authentic Portugal that many tourists don’t see. This laidback village offers a charming atmosphere, boasting cobbled streets and a quant square where you’ll love to enjoy a glass of Porto wine while you watch the locals gather to play dominoes. For more of a livelier ambience however, and a beautiful stretch of golden sand, head into Albufeira in just 15 minutes.
Albufeira is the largest and liveliest of all of the resort towns in the Algarve. You’ll love to stroll around the beautiful Old Town with it's pretty cobbled streets, winding lanes, boutique shops and traditional cafes and restaurants. Or perhaps you’ll want to head down to the modern marina complex with its variety of shops, before heading to the strip in São João to enjoy its lively nightlife. However, a spectacle not to be missed is the surrounding Algarve coastline, a magnificent stretch of golden sand and calm clear waters. With over 25 beaches to choose from, you will have the larger Praia dos Pescadores and Falesia beaches that offer a wide range of water-sports, beach bars and cafés. Or to avoid the crowds, head to delightful Inatel Beach, where you can simply relax or explore the small caves here.
For those that enjoy a round or two of golf, you will love the villa’s proximity to Vilamoura, home to the Oceanico Victoria championship course. With 5 world class courses here, you’ll have plenty to choose from. Tennis fans will also be well looked after, with a number of excellent clubs offering private tuition. The town’s range of activities, and its proximity to two wonderful beaches as well as a luxurious marina boasting gourmet restaurants and bars, make this a wonderful resort town to visit.
Just 30km from Faro, guests will love the short distance to the airport, but it should also not be overlooked as a fantastic day tip. Surrounded by ancient walls, this lovely authentic city oozes Portuguese charm. Rich in history and offering a relaxed ambience, you’ll love its pretty centre with its pedestrianised shopping streets and scenic plazas. Nature lovers can also enjoy its position as a gateway to the beautiful Parque Natural da Ria Formosa, and superb beaches beyond.
Vilamoura has been a glamorous town ever since Roman time. Its rich history is still palpable as you walk its streets, coming upon Roman Baths and ancient murals all around town. These days, Vilamoura is still a high-class destination although it has certainly kept up with the times. Yachts dock at the large marina and travellers galavant the seaside strip hopping between bars, restaurants and the dazzling casino. The local championship courses naturally attract a crowd of golf enthusiasts as well, and there is a large selection of other sports to enjoy in the area (including those best played out in the water). There is certainly no need to ever be bored in Vilamoura, but if it’s ultimate relaxation you’re after you won’t be disappointed. The town is alluringly close to Praia da Marina and Praia de Falesia, where the golden sand and hot Mediterranean sun is just about never-ending.
ABOUT THE ALGARVE
Though most people tend to see the Algarve as all about the beaches and a holiday on the Med, there’s far much more to it than that.
But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!
Albufeira Beaches – Immediately in front of the Old Town, Praia dos Pescadores (Fisherman’s Beach) is wide and sandy, with some interesting rock formations. An escalator down from the cliffs provides an alternative route to this beach. To the west of Fisherman’s Beach, the Praia do Tunel is accessed through a tunnel leading from Rua 5 de Outubro. One of the area’s best Blue Flag beaches is Praia da Oura, a couple of kilometres east of the Old Town.
Pirate boat trip Albufeira - The Captain Hook cruise starts in the Marina of Albufeira and will sail along the stunning coastline of the Algarve. From the pirate ship, you can observe the impressive rock formations and beaches of Albufeira, São Rafael, Castelo and Galé
The Marina Albufeira - The marina is a great place to hang out with young kids with plenty to do including pedal karts, an amusement arcade, and in peak season bouncy castles and trampolines.
Horse Riding - There are a few stables in the area that offer excellent facilities for younger kids. In Salgados, at the western edge of Albufeira, you can even take a horse and cart tour allowing all ages to join in the fun together.
The Fontes – A wonderful lake area, natural spring swimming pools, a park, barbecues, picnic area and trails around the lake which are ideal for nature walks. A fantastic spot for younger children as it provides a safe spot to play.
Krazy World - A good choice for children between the ages of 4 and 10. In the park there is a large petting zoo with little goats, sheep and ponies while kids will also love the reptile house, crocodiles and snapping turtles in another area of the park. There is an 18-hole mini golf course through the woods which is good for older children and during the summer they have open a large pool area with a slide for the big ones and a shallow pool for smaller children.
Water Parks - During the summer months there are two water parks right on your doorstep. Slide and Splash park is great for all ages and has a great water park area for small children. There is also Aqualand, a smaller water park but the cheapest one in the Algarve and still lots of fun.
Zoomarine – One of the most popular of all the attractions in the Algarve, combining a water and theme park with a marine life concept. You can watch the dolphin and sea lion shows, go on the rides and the big wheel, learn about marine life in the 4D cinema or relax in the manmade beach area with water slide.
