From sampling some of the world's finest wines, playing a round of excellent golf = or jet-skiing across fabulously blue seas of the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, Portugal packs a wondrous variety of things to do and places to explore across a wondrous landscape! With some of the most affordable prices in all of Europe, you can have an unlimited amount of experiences!

The Algarve region is one of the most popular in all of Portugal and for a good reason. As the most southernmost area in all of the country, the district sits off the Atlantic Ocean, with a whole coastal line supporting several fantastic beaches. Maritime towns and villages pay tribute to the heritage of the country as well as boasting some of the finest seafood recipes you'll encounter across the continent!

Quinta do Monte IV is perched just above the village of Funchal, on the towns ridge, overlooking the beauty of the surrounding area. Its location offers privacy and tranquillity upon your stay yet the towns of Lagos and Praia da Luz sit just ten-minutes away. Here you will find everything you need in terms of stores and supermarkets to stock up on goods for the villa and local markets to purchase souvenirs to take back to your home.

Head to Lagos for a vibrant side of the Western Algarve! While the entire area has restaurants dotted all over, you will be in for a romantic and tender meal at the Marina. Here, you can watch the sunset over the sea as you devour delicious cod and seafood dishes from classy establishments. If you want to eat locally in the classic architecture of the narrow streets and square of the town, head away from the Marina and enjoy more delicious traditional dishes or international meals. Enjoy the beauty of one of the longest beaches in all of Algarve at Meia Praia, where you can enjoy a stretch of golden sand, with places to relax in isolation and bliss or the thick of it with rented parasols and loungers.

Praia da Luz offers a more mellow side of things, while offering you an equal number of places to dine and shop, along a delightful promenade and its very own beach. On this beach, you can enjoy a horseback ride, water-sports and scuba-diving!

THE REGION

Lagos is a city on the western part of Portugal's south coast. The city is famous for its stunning beaches with beautiful rock formations and steep cliffs. The superb beauty of this charming city has no equal in the Algarve and is the reason why hordes of tourists travel thousands of kilometres to visit it every year.

Quiet sandy coves are sandwiched between dramatic cliffs. The sandy 2.5-mile stretch of Meia Praia caters to every water sport imaginable. And when you've had your fill, you can digest your day with some of the best nightlife in the Algarve region.

Drinking and good times continue to be a fundamental part of a visit to Lagos, and the fine array of restaurants, bars and local festas stand as a testament to this. The busy flea market fills the centre's narrow streets, which also boasts a Cultural Centre hosting various exhibitions and events throughout the year.

Lagos is equally suited as a family holiday destination; there are safe and sheltered beaches for your children, while thrill-seeking teenagers will adore the theme and water parks.

ABOUT THE ALGARVE

Though most people tend to see the Algarve as all about the beaches and a holiday on the Med, there’s far much more to it than that. There’s actually a load of fascinating culture and history, superb cuisine and enthralling adventures to be had, though we’d be the first to admit that the beaches are pretty special too, with lots of sand, spectacle and wonderfully clean water.

But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Owner Profile

Property Owners

Deirdre Morgan & Victoria Morgan-Cummins

How long have you owned the Property

We purchased the original Casa Monte Cristo 12 years ago, and undertook extensive renovations to the house, apartments and grounds

We opened up the apartments for rental 6 years ago and have been flourishing ever since.

We then purchased Casa Monte Cristo Too 6 years ago as well with the view of it being a vacation rental villa.  We completely demolished the standing villa and re-built a brand new one incorporating a dining room and all bedrooms now en suite.  This was done to a very high standard and is very modern.

Casa Monte Cristo Tres came along 5 years ago – again with the purpose of being a vacation rental villa.  We chose to leave this one in the more traditional Portuguese style as it was already so beautiful.  However we still wanted it to be luxurious so invested in new beds, linens, new bathrooms etc.

Last but by no means least Casa Monte Cristo IV.  We could not resist this villa as the views are really quite something!  - Again it only needed some TLC and some air conditioning and we had our 4th vacation rental property.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?

Each of our villas has its own uniqueness.

When we first found the original Casa Monte Cristo it was simply the location and the grounds.  The gardens are stunning and with all the fruit trees that we have planted which is over 120 it makes for such a tranquil environment.  Location for us was unique – Funchal ridge is so peaceful and quiet  Who would not want that as their vacation spot.?

None of our villas are overlooked so privacy is guaranteed

Do you have favourite room in the property?

This is a difficult question as I am sure we have one in each villa, but to pick a favourite across all 4 it would have to be the living room at Casa Monte Cristo IV, purely because the views are so breath-taking.

Victoria is more of an outside person so it differs there as she would say the swimming pool at Casa Monte Cristo Tres as it is an infinity pool

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area

Really Do?

Explore the towns and see the culture of times past still in place with the unique architecture that reflects the rich cultural history and heritage of this beautiful country. You could even venture further, explore the coastline of the region, visit the beaches some of which remain a local secret.

Lagos has an amazing old town with small cobble streets, shops, restaurants and usually entertainment in the main square.  We love to take an afternoon wander and let time roll into dinner in one of the main restaurants.

Really eat?

Anything that is of the local cuisine, Portuguese food is stunning, and the fish is to die for!

The main local dish is called a Cataplana – Portuguese fish stew cooked and served in a unique copper pot

Really See?

That is an easy one for us – to go on a boat trip from Lagos either just along the coast or into the famous historic caves.

Truly a sight to be seen.  Many of the companies will take you out for quite a few hours, provide lunch and it is a very relaxing way to see the beautiful coast of the Algarve.

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?

We feel that our villas are perfect for families – we also cater for weddings and events as the location of all 4 villas are within a 3 minute walking distance of each other.

With accommodation for up to 50 people in one location in beautiful surroundings makes it a wonderful setting for a family get together for any type of event.

We would also recommend hiring a car as within a short distance from us there is the beautiful Monchique Mountains and the famous town of Sagres, both of which are certainly worth a visit.
