One holds a double bedroom, and the other room sleeps two on twin single beds, making it an ideal choice for travellers who want to be near one another, such as families. The two remaining bedrooms on this floor are reflections of the first row, however, each room has its own en-suite facilities to make it even more of a cosy stay. Upstairs, two gorgeously decorated rooms provide another double bed and twin single beds for you to find slumber and relaxation in and share the use of a family bathroom, which sits between the two.

Outdoors, enjoy a glass of bubbly on the majestic conservatory terrace. Sitting high on the top of Funchal Ridge, you are privy to outstanding vistas of Lagos and the sea as you dine on alfresco meals on the chic outdoor dining table or relax on seats on either side. Downstairs, guests can have tonnes of fun in the climate, reclining on sun-loungers or jumping right into the outdoor infinity-edged pool. Cool off from the sun on stylish sofa beds under the manicured garden, trees and fauna, providing a touch of beauty.

Guests can extend the number of travellers who stay in Qunita do Monte III with the choice of renting the cottage which sits on the estate. Here, a living area, a double bedroom, bathroom, fully-equipped kitchen and private patio area outside mean you can provide a couple with a romantic hideaway or simply bring even more people along for the stay!

Portugal is one of the best places to visit across the European Continent. Infusing passion into its language, cuisines and almost all of its culture, the country's history in exploration has provided space for wonders from across the globe to infuse into the heritage and traditions, offering those who visit untold amounts of unique adventures!

Algarve never fails to disappoint, with tonnes to do across the southernmost region of the country. Every activity will feel extra special thanks to the beam of sunshine that stretches across the lands. A range of romantic towns and coastal areas sit alongside beaches and places of significance and at night, towns across the district, burst to life with an amazing party scene.

And while you have lively towns just under ten minutes from the villa, your stay in Quinta do Monte III extends guests privacy and peace during times within the villa. Locally in Funchal, you have a plethora of wine-cellars, specialising in the country's original product, Madeira Wine. Become a sommelier for the day and enjoy sipping home-wines in this vino paradise. The views aren't too bad either!

The town of Lagos turns it up a notch, with its fancy Marina and swanky places to dine. Enjoy the hundreds of variety of cod recipes, Portugal is famed for, watching the sunset across the Atlantic Ocean. Further into the town and away from the coast, you can wander through the market and admire hand-crafted items, available to purchase and take home as a souvenir. You'll also find all you need to keep the villa pantry and fridge stocked! Last, but definitely not least, make sure to spend some time in the sun rays on the incredible beaches that fringe the town. Meia Praia is hands-down the number one choice for your seaside pleasure. You have a stretch of over 4 kilometres of sand to either find blissful relaxation, just you, the sand and sea or in the thick of it at more built-up spots, with food and drink, parasols and sun-loungers all served to you on the beach!

Praia da Luz offers a more mellow take on the coastal Algarve towns. Here you have all the restaurants you could need in another picturesque town, which sports even more places to base on, along the Atlantic Ocean and ruins of the Roman era to pay a trip to!

THE REGION

Lagos is a city on the western part of Portugal's south coast. The city is famous for its stunning beaches with beautiful rock formations and steep cliffs. The superb beauty of this charming city has no equal in the Algarve and is the reason why hordes of tourists travel thousands of kilometres to visit it every year.

Quiet sandy coves are sandwiched between dramatic cliffs. The sandy 2.5-mile stretch of Meia Praia caters to every water sport imaginable. And when you've had your fill, you can digest your day with some of the best nightlife in the Algarve region.

Drinking and good times continue to be a fundamental part of a visit to Lagos, and the fine array of restaurants, bars and local festas stand as a testament to this. The busy flea market fills the centre's narrow streets, which also boasts a Cultural Centre hosting various exhibitions and events throughout the year.

Lagos is equally suited as a family holiday destination; there are safe and sheltered beaches for your children, while thrill-seeking teenagers will adore the theme and water parks.

ABOUT THE ALGARVE

Though most people tend to see the Algarve as all about the beaches and a holiday on the Med, there’s far much more to it than that. There’s actually a load of fascinating culture and history, superb cuisine and enthralling adventures to be had, though we’d be the first to admit that the beaches are pretty special too, with lots of sand, spectacle and wonderfully clean water.

But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Owner Profile

Property Owners

Deirdre Morgan & Victoria Morgan-Cummins

How long have you owned the Property

We purchased the original Casa Monte Cristo 12 years ago, and undertook extensive renovations to the house, apartments and grounds

We opened up the apartments for rental 6 years ago and have been flourishing ever since.

We then purchased Casa Monte Cristo Too 6 years ago as well with the view of it being a vacation rental villa.  We completely demolished the standing villa and re-built a brand new one incorporating a dining room and all bedrooms now en suite.  This was done to a very high standard and is very modern.

Casa Monte Cristo Tres came along 5 years ago – again with the purpose of being a vacation rental villa.  We chose to leave this one in the more traditional Portuguese style as it was already so beautiful.  However we still wanted it to be luxurious so invested in new beds, linens, new bathrooms etc.

Last but by no means least Casa Monte Cristo IV.  We could not resist this villa as the views are really quite something!  - Again it only needed some TLC and some air conditioning and we had our 4th vacation rental property.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?

Each of our villas has its own uniqueness.

When we first found the original Casa Monte Cristo it was simply the location and the grounds.  The gardens are stunning and with all the fruit trees that we have planted which is over 120 it makes for such a tranquil environment.  Location for us was unique – Funchal ridge is so peaceful and quiet  Who would not want that as their vacation spot.?

None of our villas are overlooked so privacy is guaranteed

Do you have favourite room in the property?

This is a difficult question as I am sure we have one in each villa, but to pick a favourite across all 4 it would have to be the living room at Casa Monte Cristo IV, purely because the views are so breath-taking.

Victoria is more of an outside person so it differs there as she would say the swimming pool at Casa Monte Cristo Tres as it is an infinity pool

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area

Really Do?

Explore the towns and see the culture of times past still in place with the unique architecture that reflects the rich cultural history and heritage of this beautiful country. You could even venture further, explore the coastline of the region, visit the beaches some of which remain a local secret.

Lagos has an amazing old town with small cobble streets, shops, restaurants and usually entertainment in the main square.  We love to take an afternoon wander and let time roll into dinner in one of the main restaurants.

Really eat?

Anything that is of the local cuisine, Portuguese food is stunning, and the fish is to die for!

The main local dish is called a Cataplana – Portuguese fish stew cooked and served in a unique copper pot

Really See?

That is an easy one for us – to go on a boat trip from Lagos either just along the coast or into the famous historic caves.

Truly a sight to be seen.  Many of the companies will take you out for quite a few hours, provide lunch and it is a very relaxing way to see the beautiful coast of the Algarve.

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?

We feel that our villas are perfect for families – we also cater for weddings and events as the location of all 4 villas are within a 3 minute walking distance of each other.

With accommodation for up to 50 people in one location in beautiful surroundings makes it a wonderful setting for a family get together for any type of event.

We would also recommend hiring a car as within a short distance from us there is the beautiful Monchique Mountains and the famous town of Sagres, both of which are certainly worth a visit.
