Although this is the second in the edition, Quinta do Monte II is far from just another villa. Compromising of five fabulous bedrooms, enjoy a family getaway or an escape with friends in this gorgeous home, guaranteeing tranquillity and relaxation as well as ample amounts of fun!

Adopting classic architectural style, Quinta do Monte II is set across one floor, consisting of stylish décor, colourful rooms providing both charm and character and an open-plan layout that allows sunlight to waft in and a gentle current of air from open patio doors. Outdoors, an expansive area has been set to ensure you can fully exploit the Portuguese climate!

Step indoors to access the communal area of the villa. Here, the open space brings together a living area and kitchen, making sure you can enjoy together time during your stay. Cuddle-up with one another on plump, sleek leather sofas, seats and cushions and enjoy a film or two on the wall-mounted television. While the group zone out to a movie, it's time for the chef of the group to work their magic in the fully-equipped kitchen which sits just behind the living area. Set with everything you will need to make anything from a fresh brew to a full-course meal and a bar and stools so you can keep the togetherness going.

Meals are to be served in the separate dining room. This splendid place has views towards the exterior and seating for all ten guests on a classy dining table. Through the patio doors, guests will be enticed to jump straight into the outdoor pool, set in the middle of the delightfully tiled patio and featuring sun-loungers and chic cushioned seating to bask in the rays! Should you need more shade or comfy seating, relax on any of the chairs by the home, shaded by the roof, for a chance for cooler relaxation. To grab the holiday feeling and benefit from the weather, your stay here means you can dine open-air on a large alfresco dining area. With wood panelling, a glass-topped table and jazzy seating for ten people!

Find a place to rest after days of excitement in any of the five bedrooms across the villa. Named after the colour schemes they represent, each room provides a touch of personality to accompany your stay. The Red and Green rooms offer a double bed, a television and en-suite facilities for that added touch of convenience. Twin single beds are housed in the Brown and Blue rooms, perfect for youngsters and those who prefer to sleep alone and feature televisions and en-suite bathrooms. The master bedroom, the Black Room, is the jewel of the rooms, featuring the same facilities as the other rooms such as en-suite bathroom and televisions but also features a double bed, a sofa, a vast amount of space and even a built-in Scandinavian sauna!

Pastel de Nata, Port wine, ukuleles and Ronaldo are just some of the great things Portugal has introduced to the world, so it's not surprising the country is a jewel of a place to visit! Often overshadowed by neighbouring Spain and France, Portugal boasts some of the finest cuisine and landscapes across the entire continent making it worthy of competing with any country around the world for a place to travel to!

The Faro District, better known as the Algarve, is one of the most well-rounded places to visit while in the south of the country. Your stay here means you have a spectrum of activities to suit any type of traveller. Choose from anything between archaeology and historical sites, mesmerising natural beauty, beaches and bays, gastronomical journeys or funk-flavoured nightlife and shape the holiday you want!

Situated in the top of the Funchal Ridge, in Western Algarve, your stay in Quinta do Monte II is supplemented with tranquil privacy upon your stay in the home and commanding views of the region below. In your paradise of a villa, guests can spend a day treating themselves to pampering massage sessions and a variety of treatments to bring out the best in you!

The two closest large cities are Praia da Luz and Lagos. Remarkably, both offer a wealth of experiences, but each one offers a different atmosphere. Praia da Luz makes for a more relaxing and mellow take to coastal life in Portugal. Here wander across remnants of times long gone, showcasing the influence of cultures that have taken refuge here in historic years. Visit the ruins of Roman baths as you make your way along the promenade. Filled with stalls, stores and places to dine, this walkway along the coast will see it to it that you indulge in speciality Portuguese dishes and sip some of the finest varieties of wine you will ever stumble across, all the while watching the bewitching blue of the Atlantic Ocean. Step from the promenade directly onto the shore and enjoy a day on the banks. Fine, golden grains of sand stretch from the historic Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz all the way famous Black Rock. Cool off in Mother Earth's swimming pool or enjoy the views of the waves from rented loungers and parasols. This beach's size means that you can enjoy snacks and drinks and services at the more built-up spots or find yourself some exclusivity at more isolate spots across its length!

THE REGION

Lagos is a city on the western part of Portugal's south coast. The city is famous for its stunning beaches with beautiful rock formations and steep cliffs. The superb beauty of this charming city has no equal in the Algarve and is the reason why hordes of tourists travel thousands of kilometres to visit it every year.

Quiet sandy coves are sandwiched between dramatic cliffs. The sandy 2.5-mile stretch of Meia Praia caters to every water sport imaginable. And when you've had your fill, you can digest your day with some of the best nightlife in the Algarve region.

Drinking and good times continue to be a fundamental part of a visit to Lagos, and the fine array of restaurants, bars and local festas stand as a testament to this. The busy flea market fills the centre's narrow streets, which also boasts a Cultural Centre hosting various exhibitions and events throughout the year.

Lagos is equally suited as a family holiday destination; there are safe and sheltered beaches for your children, while thrill-seeking teenagers will adore the theme and water parks.

ABOUT THE ALGARVE

Though most people tend to see the Algarve as all about the beaches and a holiday on the Med, there’s far much more to it than that. There’s actually a load of fascinating culture and history, superb cuisine and enthralling adventures to be had, though we’d be the first to admit that the beaches are pretty special too, with lots of sand, spectacle and wonderfully clean water.

But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Quinta do Monte II's ability to stay graceful and modern in appearance, yet boast a playful and sunny character makes this home uniquely suited to families and children. Supporting areas to gather together as a unit and laugh and cry at movies in the living rooms and areas to prepare dishes when it's too inconvenient to leave the villa, Quinta do Monte II is a family home that will see you comfortable and cosy throughout your stay.

Rooms in this villa truly bring the spirits up, each decorated in an individual colour scheme to give it personality. The rooms with twin single beds, the Blue and Brown rooms are set perfectly to host a pair of siblings or little ones, while the remaining three bedrooms offer quarters for older children and adults on double beds. Outside, kids will love the swimming pool built with a shallow end to support kids and non-swimmers and the sun loungers and the multiple areas to take it easy with a book or device. The grassy area of the exterior provides a safe surface for kids to play on, and you can give them a rewarding and unforgettable experience with the outdoor grill!

The villa sits up on high, providing a superior level of privacy and this is strengthened with security, courtesy of remote-controlled gates which guard the home and allow you to dictate who comes and goes. Quinta do Monte II's higher altitude means that photo-happy children can take the best selfies and family shots available with glorious background views of Funchal, the Monchique Mountains and its farmlands. Kids can instantly upload photos and make their school-mates jealous thanks to the accessible wi-fi in the home!

Lagos is a lively city and one of the best places to let kids burn through their energy. The 4 kilometres of golden sands at Meia Praia will see to it you have enough space to have a lively day on the beach or a nice and calm encounter with the sea. Choose from the western side of the beach, where you are watched by lifeguards and have facilities such as toilets and changing rooms. You can rent parasols and loungers and order beachside food at the bar nearby to keep hunger and thirst at bay. The water may be quite cold, but in the dazzling heat of the Portuguese sun, it will offer much-needed relief, and the waters are shallow, clear and gentle for many metres out, meaning even babies can splash in it!

Owner Profile

Property Owners

Deirdre Morgan & Victoria Morgan-Cummins

How long have you owned the Property

We purchased the original Casa Monte Cristo 12 years ago, and undertook extensive renovations to the house, apartments and grounds

We opened up the apartments for rental 6 years ago and have been flourishing ever since.

We then purchased Casa Monte Cristo Too 6 years ago as well with the view of it being a vacation rental villa.  We completely demolished the standing villa and re-built a brand new one incorporating a dining room and all bedrooms now en suite.  This was done to a very high standard and is very modern.

Casa Monte Cristo Tres came along 5 years ago – again with the purpose of being a vacation rental villa.  We chose to leave this one in the more traditional Portuguese style as it was already so beautiful.  However we still wanted it to be luxurious so invested in new beds, linens, new bathrooms etc.

Last but by no means least Casa Monte Cristo IV.  We could not resist this villa as the views are really quite something!  - Again it only needed some TLC and some air conditioning and we had our 4th vacation rental property.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?

Each of our villas has its own uniqueness.

When we first found the original Casa Monte Cristo it was simply the location and the grounds.  The gardens are stunning and with all the fruit trees that we have planted which is over 120 it makes for such a tranquil environment.  Location for us was unique – Funchal ridge is so peaceful and quiet  Who would not want that as their vacation spot.?

None of our villas are overlooked so privacy is guaranteed

Do you have favourite room in the property?

This is a difficult question as I am sure we have one in each villa, but to pick a favourite across all 4 it would have to be the living room at Casa Monte Cristo IV, purely because the views are so breath-taking.

Victoria is more of an outside person so it differs there as she would say the swimming pool at Casa Monte Cristo Tres as it is an infinity pool

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area

Really Do?

Explore the towns and see the culture of times past still in place with the unique architecture that reflects the rich cultural history and heritage of this beautiful country. You could even venture further, explore the coastline of the region, visit the beaches some of which remain a local secret.

Lagos has an amazing old town with small cobble streets, shops, restaurants and usually entertainment in the main square.  We love to take an afternoon wander and let time roll into dinner in one of the main restaurants.

Really eat?

Anything that is of the local cuisine, Portuguese food is stunning, and the fish is to die for!

The main local dish is called a Cataplana – Portuguese fish stew cooked and served in a unique copper pot

Really See?

That is an easy one for us – to go on a boat trip from Lagos either just along the coast or into the famous historic caves.

Truly a sight to be seen.  Many of the companies will take you out for quite a few hours, provide lunch and it is a very relaxing way to see the beautiful coast of the Algarve.

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?

We feel that our villas are perfect for families – we also cater for weddings and events as the location of all 4 villas are within a 3 minute walking distance of each other.

With accommodation for up to 50 people in one location in beautiful surroundings makes it a wonderful setting for a family get together for any type of event.

We would also recommend hiring a car as within a short distance from us there is the beautiful Monchique Mountains and the famous town of Sagres, both of which are certainly worth a visit.
