Overview

Pool Villa/House Quirky
Great Value
Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach Walk to Village

The delightful Casa Burgau sits in an elevated position with gorgeous sea views just over 2 km from Burgau and just over 4 km from Luz. With three bedrooms and the possibility of a couple of extra beds, the villa is perfect for families and groups of friends. The villa offers modern, open plan living and wonderful outside space. Once you have driven through the royal blue gates, you can enjoy the tranquility and seclusion of this dreamy holiday home and venture out for delicious Portuguese meals, to laze on sun drenched beaches or to explore the numerous charming local villages and towns.

Burgau is a charming fishing village located on the Algarve coast between Lagos and Sagres. It has escaped the high-rise builds of some resorts and remains inviting, friendly and full of whitewashed fishermen’s cottages and cobbled streets. You will discover colourful fishing boats on the beach, lining the streets and in the harbour. There are some wonderful coastal walks from Burgau and the neighbouring beaches of Salema and Praia da Luz are fabulous. Luz is a lovely resort and Salema offers delicious, freshly cooked sardines and considerable charm.

Casa Burgau offers a splendid mix of modern comfort and traditional charm. It is built all on one level. Throughout the villa you will find built-in seating, warm terracotta and beige tiled floors and bright blue window frames and doorways. The open plan living space and outdoor terraces enjoy fabulous views across to the sea and the villa’s many windows and doors ensure that the rooms are drowned in natural light. At the far end of the living space, guests can relax on built-in seating as well as other sofas and chairs which sit opposite the feature fireplace and television. The dining area also enjoys some delightful built-in seating and chairs and sits next to the charming kitchen. Though not in the slightest contemporary, the kitchen enjoys all the appliances you need for your self-catering stay including a Nespresso coffee machine. It enjoys lovely shelves full of earthenware dishes, pots and pans. There is something really lovely about the simplicity of this villa. It offers a calm, welcoming and laid-back ambience.

The villa boasts three minimalist bedrooms, one with a comfy double bed and two with twin beds. The master double enjoys an ensuite bathroom and the other two boast private walk-in showers. The decor is bright and airy, almost all in white aside from the odd colour pop. The artwork in the house is modern and vibrant, a lovely contrast to the dazzling white walls.

Outside, guests can lounge enjoying the views, take a dip in the pool or dine alfresco under the stars. There are lovely spots to enjoy the brilliant sunsets and the villa is surrounded by a lovely garden. Surrounded by delightful countryside, Casa Burgau is a fabulous base to explore this part of the Algarve. Burgau is on the edge of the Costa Vicentina Natural Park, perfect for those that love the beauty and peace of the outdoors and the cosmopolitan Luz offers many activities and gourmet restaurants.

Casa Burgau sits surrounded by greenery with the most wonderful sea views close to several villages including Burgau. Burgau is a charming village with an old town brimming with cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and cascading bougainvillea. Its golden sandy beach is enclosed by cliffs and is the scene of fishermen bringing in their early catches, mending their nets and looking after their rustic, colourful boats. There is a selection of shops, restaurants and waterside bars but the nearest supermarket is a short drive away. Guests can take a sensational cliff top walk from Burgau where you can watch the Atlantic rollers splashing on the rocks below to Luz. Burgau sits in the municipality of Vila do Bispo which is famous for its connections with Henry the Navigator and his School of Navigation during the 15th century.

Luz is a charming, peaceful resort with beautiful beaches and an excellent range of restaurants and bars. One of the two beaches is by the old fort. The main beach boasts a European Blue Flag award and is very safe for children. There are several supermarkets, the favourite being Baptista. You should also try the cakes and bread from the bakers on Rua Direita. Those with an adventurous spirit should book an eMTB electrically assisted bike trip with Booster Bikes. The longer trips are 65km and guides take you to see attractive places from a completely different perspective though you may want to opt for a shorter trip.

Salema enjoys a laid back, tranquil ambience where you can enjoy watching the local fishermen repairing their nets, painting their boats or early in the morning unloading their catch of octopus, sardines, sea bass and gilt-head bream. You should try the delicious sardines cooked at one of the restaurants overlooking the beach. There are wonderful isolated coves if you are brave enough to tackle the steep cliff paths. Salema is located in the unspoilt Costa Vicenta Natural Park, a protected area of natural beauty. The half mile long, Praia de Salema is a Blue Flag beach with fine golden sand.

Lagos boasts a lively Saturday morning market, a slave museum, a wonderful promenade and many restaurants serving delicious food in the Old Town. This historic town is very characterful and offers a rich seafaring heritage and a dramatic coastline. Its 17th century fort and intricate Baroque churches such as Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Luz and the city’s ancient Moorish walls are all wonderful. The cultural centre of Lagos was originally built in 1710 as the Convent of Saint Joseph and is now home to exhibitions of paintings, photography and sculpture. Lagos is bustling with activity, nightlife and modern attractions. Visitors enjoy an assortment of boat trips to visit caves or to snorkel or dolphin watch. The town enjoys a lovely sandy bay, Meia Praia, with a selection of waterfront restaurants. Just behind the eastern end of Meia Praia is the Palmares golf course.

Praia do Alvor is located at the end of a wonderful boardwalk all the way from Alvor Town and past the incredible, protected marshlands of the Ria de Alvor Nature Reserve. The stunning beach features three impressive sea stacks known as the Tres Irmaos or Three Brothers as well as fine white sand, ochre sandstone cliffs, caves and extensive dunes. It is definitely worth the drive.

If you are heading to Sagres you will pass Budens with its little chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guadalupe where Prince Henry worshipped and Raposeira where he lived. The next town is Vila do Bispos where the restaurants have a reputation for serving ‘perceves’ which are goose barnacles! Sagres is the most south westerly town in Europe and boasts stunning views.

THE REGION

Lagos is a city on the western part of Portugal's south coast. The city is famous for its stunning beaches with beautiful rock formations and steep cliffs. The superb beauty of this charming city has no equal in the Algarve and is the reason why hordes of tourists travel thousands of kilometres to visit it every year.

Quiet sandy coves are sandwiched between dramatic cliffs. The sandy 2.5-mile stretch of Meia Praia caters to every water sport imaginable. And when you've had your fill, you can digest your day with some of the best nightlife in the Algarve region.

Drinking and good times continue to be a fundamental part of a visit to Lagos, and the fine array of restaurants, bars and local festas stand as a testament to this. The busy flea market fills the centre's narrow streets, which also boasts a Cultural Centre hosting various exhibitions and events throughout the year.

Lagos is equally suited as a family holiday destination; there are safe and sheltered beaches for your children, while thrill-seeking teenagers will adore the theme and water parks.

ABOUT THE ALGARVE

Though most people tend to see the Algarve as all about the beaches and a holiday on the Med, there’s far much more to it than that. There’s actually a load of fascinating culture and history, superb cuisine and enthralling adventures to be had, though we’d be the first to admit that the beaches are pretty special too, with lots of sand, spectacle and wonderfully clean water.

But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

  • A Charming Villa with a Few Quirks

    on 18/09/2023

Very homely Villa but takes a while to settle in as it’s quite quirky. Greeting was great and very helpful, we commented that there were no covers on the sun Ed’s and they turned up the following morning with 4 new ones!

The main issue for us is the steps, if I’m correct the advert states on 1 level, but in actual fact there are 35 steps in and around the Villa which is quite a trip hazard when you are in your 70s and I fell over day 1!
