What Oliver loves…
- Just a few minutes walk from sandy beaches, and a two starred Michelin restaurant
- Each of the four bedrooms has its own ensuite bathroom, whilst the master bedroom boasts a private balcony (all air-conditioned)
- Sublime outdoor spaces comprising private pool, dappled dining terrace, shaded veranda, elegant balcony and luscious lawns!
Villa Nicolau is a resplendent white-washed villa set just a short distance from the bustling Albufeira, on a costal spot offering local, village life.
This enchanting villa is set independently within luscious grounds, creating an idyllic vision of the quintessential Portuguese home, brimming with local charm: pretty shutters, cloistered veranda and sloping terracotta tiled roofs.
Set over three storeys, Villa Nicolau offers space for eight guests across four bedrooms, each of these with an ensuite and lavish proportions, whilst the indulgent master suite boasts its own balcony.
The interiors offer a colonial style, of dazzling whites and creams, as well as original touches such as flagstone flooring, offset by ornate chandeliers and plush fabrics.
The proportions are striking at Villa Nicolau, offering a blend of homey informality along with commanding and flamboyant style. A large, impeccably equipped kitchen offers eat-in dining along with top-grade appliances, with quirky twists of personal style offered by way of dripping chandeliers. Natural light pours in at every turn by virtue of the French windows.
Open-plan living offers sedate sophistication; soft creams and earthy tones along with antique timber and interesting artefacts. A basement reception and games room offers the ideal environment to retire for post dinner ‘downtime’ and relaxation, whilst each of the bedrooms offer sublime tranquillity, along with individual accents of quirky colour or design.
Outdoor living is executed with stylish flair at Villa Nicolau; a brick-built barbecue is set alongside the covered dining terrace, offering dappled shade. The sleek patios frame the pool, whilst verdant lawns are offset by flowering plants.
Villa Nicolau is a prestigious home, offering both the informality of relaxed and understated luxe along with flawless attention to detail; executed with all the needs of the group in mind, set just moments from the coast and buzzing life of Albufeira.

Albufeira (5.6 km) is a lively, bustling town on Portugal’s beautiful southern Algarve coastline. Previously a modest fishing village, it is now a well known coastal town brimming with holiday potential. Traditional charm by way of original Moorish flair, the ‘Old Town’ offers a little taste of historic and sleepy small-town authenticity. A stone’s throw from the quiet white-washed streets you will find the dynamic and edgy “Strip” for a buzzing nightlife experience.
Nearby Vilamoura (16 km) is a dynamic resort town, known for its large marina, golf courses and casino, and for the beautiful, sandy beach. Cerro da Vila archeological museum has a ruined Roman villa with bathhouses and mosaics.
The beach at Vilamoura, as well as others along the coastline, are second-to-none. Whether it be long, lazy days on the loungers or taking advantage of the many water sports including deep sea fishing, windsurfing, diving or dolphin watching, the region is rich with natural beauty.
There really is something for everyone. Golf players or those who love water sports won’t be disappointed, whilst culinary enthusiasts can take advantage of the many restaurants offering fresh seafood and other delights.
For those who wish to venture further afield, day trips to Silves, Faro and Loule are worth considering. Boat and coastal tours offer a leisurely pace for exploring.
With easy access from Faro airport (46 km), Albufeira and its surroundings offer a varied, culturally rich and activity packed destination. Whether it be pretty historic streets and traditional plazas, golfing trip (Salgados golf course 2.9 km) or nightlife hedonism, this corner of Southern Portugal has it covered.
Restaurants & Shops
Albufeira is one of the Algarve’s top hotspots. It’s a charismatic beach town with an energetic and busy vibe where every type of holidaymaker can find something to enjoy. Not only is it family friendly and bursting with great activities for kids and teens, there is also a buzzing nightlife scene on the downtown strip for adults travelling on their own.
If you’re after something a bit more cultural, there is also a beautiful Old Town where all the best restaurants and historical sites can be found. For those looking to get a little bit extra out of their Albufeira stay, Vidamar Resort in the Salgados area offers all the perks of staying in a self-catered villa plus the amenities of a luxury resort.
Not far from there you’ll also come across the beachy Sao Rafael as well as Galé where the sandy stretches and deep blue waves will have you thinking you’re on the set of a photoshoot. Golf lovers might want to head to Amendoeira Golf Resort, located a quick fifteen minutes from Albufeira, which is perfect those who like a good game while still staying close to town.
ABOUT THE ALGARVE
Though most people tend to see the Algarve as all about the beaches and a holiday on the Med, there’s far much more to it than that.
But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!
This home is immaculately equipped when it comes to the needs of the family, with generous proportions, proximity to all amenities and a fantastic basement games room (complete with pool table) the whole family’s needs will be met.
When it comes to older children and teens, the entertainment options are all in place, including satellite television and DVD player. Younger children will be able to have siestas in the calm, air-conditioned bedrooms.
Whether it be for budding equestrians, tennis enthusiasts or water lovers, this part of the Algarve is rich with opportunity. Albufeira Watersports Centre is excellent.
For those who love coastal scenery and culture, the Capela de Rossa Senhora da Rocha offers dramatic, stunning views of the beaches and cliffs as well as coastal clifftop walk to nearby cove.
Catering for children is easy in Portugal; the supermarkets are well stocked with well known brands and the essentials such as formula milk, whilst the restaurants are very family friendly.
Armação has a wonderful promenade which is ideal for an evening’s stroll; there is a children’s playground whilst the old town has plenty of ice cream parlours.
Water sports are plentiful locally, as are water parks (Zoomarine and Aqualand, to name a few) which are worth making a day trip for. With circa 20 sandy beaches, and an array of family friendly restaurants locally, this lovely part of the Algarve and relaxed, immaculately executed house is ideal for children of all ages.
