What Oliver loves…
- The Castello is a home with a difference: architecturally majestic surroundings are like stepping back in time; historically faithful within a contemporary finish for an idyllic blend of old and new
- Proximity to both mountains, beaches, historical monuments and UNESCO preserved sites
- Sweeping lawns with far reaching country views, surrounded by verdant fruit trees and swaying palms
Castello Oilia is an enchanting, veritable medieval castle like something straight from the pages of a fairytale, outside one of Italy’s most beautiful villages in the northeastern Italian countryside.
Nestled in fertile grounds fragrant with olive trees and fruit trees, this castle has its very own line of production for olive oil, limoncello, honey and jams. Guests will pause to draw breath as they take in this awe-inspiring and majestic vision, surrounded by ancient stone walls and a long, sweeping avenue swaying palm trees.
Surrounding the castle are sweeping lawns, mysterious pathways and far-reaching country views through the historical battlements; this unique home with its intriguing facade is set within unadulterated seclusion behind wrought iron gates.
The interiors at the Castello epitomise striking simplicity, within historically faithful preservation with subtle, contemporary comfort. Brick flooring, exposed timber beams and original architecture are offset by refined and understated neutral interiors with all the hallmarks of quality.
A chic farmhouse style kitchen provides an informal eat-in option, large, glossy black Aga and low hanging lighting for a warm and cosy retreat from the bustle of the crowds. The living space is a dignified and refined affair comprising a soft and neutral palette with accents of regal crimsons and magnificent centrepiece open fireplace.
Thirteen guests can be accommodated across seven elegantly finished bedrooms, executed with all the grace and panache of a boutique hotel, with crisp, quality bed linen, thick and fluffy towels, cosy lamps and charming sloping roofs, guests will imbibe the sense of history and regal charm surrounding this unique home.
Notwithstanding the opulently antique surroundings, the bathrooms offer state of the art contemporary sleek walk-in showers finished chic grey slate, whilst there is space for large group events or celebrations comprising a magnificent banquet room.
Castello Oilia is a prestigious home offering something completely different to the norm; intriguing historical backdrop, glorious surroundings, fused with hotel grade comfort.
What you should know…
- Many useful amenities are within walking distance of the villa, but a car is recommended if you want to get around the wider area

Udine is just ten kilometres away offering a cosmopolitan blend of cafe-lined piazzas, boutique shopping, markets and well-heeled restaurants. An eighteen hole golf course is just five kilometres from the castle, as well as spa and wellness retreat for a spot of indulgence!
This intriguing castle is set in one of Italy’s most remote, rugged and varied rural areas. The Friuli countryside stretches from the mountainous borders with Slovenia and Austria, where there is ample opportunity for indulging in winter sports, dotted with well-heeled ski resorts, to the sandy beaches of the Adriatic coast.
Offering varied landscapes, comprising the impressive Carso plateau formed by windswept rocks, to medieval hill towns and historical monuments, visitors will delight at all this region has to offer.
The ancient town of Aquileia is a glimmering jewel in the region: one of the most important towns of the Roman Empire, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as home to early examples of Christian art.
The Dolomites, another addition to the UNESCO World Heritage List, are an unmissable natural site, offering stunning natural beauty: crystal-clear water stretches, snow-covered peaks and lush valleys.
The vibrant, cosmopolitan town of Gorizia, is worth a visit, with its Medieval castle and myriad of winding alleyways. Udine is no less charming, with its ancient castle and the precious works of Giambattista Tiepolo.
Several other towns and small villages enrich the region with their art and traditions. Grado is peculiar for its Venetian-style old town centre; the small town of San Daniele, for its beautiful frescoes and the Church of Sant’Antonio.
Whether it be history, art, winter sports or gastronomy, this region is rich with opportunity for visitors of all ages.
