If you are looking for a spacious home for a trip with a group of friends or your extended family to discover the heart of Tuscany, look no further than Casa Virgilio. Surrounded by ancient woodlands and staggering valleys, this villa is ideally situated for a rural escape where you can rest and recharge in the Italian sun.
Casa Virgilio is a large home which is comfortable and welcoming. With a wealth of doors and windows overlooking the garden, the villa is flooded with natural light. The house is decorated in a traditional style in warm pink and yellow tones, which tie in with the terracotta floor tiles, solid wood furniture and ceiling beams. The main living space is an open plan living and dining room with comfy sofas and armchairs gathered around the fireplace and a large dining table for enjoying evening meals together.
Also, on the ground floor, you will find the fully-fitted, country-style kitchen and a smaller kitchenette in the tower building. The tower is attached to the main building via a hallway but offers a little more privacy, so it may suit a couple or grandparents who would like some privacy, and with the small kitchen, a double bedroom and a bathroom, the tower is a well-equipped dwelling.
When you wish to retire for the evening or for an afternoon nap, you have a choice of seven bedrooms. One of these rooms is located in the tower and has an en-suite bathroom with a bath for a long soak after a busy day out. There are a further six bedrooms, all double rooms with pretty iron beds and charming artwork; most rooms are en-suite or have a bathroom next door. Three bedrooms are fitted with air conditioning, and there are also modern facilities such as Wi-Fi, a Smart TV and coffee machines for guests to utilise.
When you head outside, you will find lots of space for your whole group to unwind and enjoy the wonderful climate. There is an expansive roof terrace which can be accessed from some of the bedrooms; from here, you can take in the unrivalled views. The garden also has a covered dining table and a private pool for a refreshing afternoon dip.
Casa Virgilio is located amidst farmland, woodlands and olive groves and is a true retreat for guests who wish to experience a slower pace of life in rural Italy. Close to the villa, you can head out on walks or follow cycling routes through the hills. The nearest restaurant and amenities are around 15km away, but this is a perfect base for visiting nearby medieval villages and the gorgeous beaches which line the coast.
From the villa, you can visit a wide array of villages and towns around 40 minutes away by car. For example, you can visit the town and beaches in Cecina (30km away), explore historic Volterra (38km away) and visit a vineyard in the Bolgheri wine region (30km away). If you don’t mind a slightly longer drive, you could even head to Pisa, which is 88km away.

What you should know…
- Air conditioning is only available in three of the bedrooms.
- The tower is attached to the main house but offers a little more privacy; it has a double bedroom, a kitchenette and a bathroom.

Location
About the surrounding area of Casa VirgilioCasa Virgilio sits on top of one of the tallest hills in the area, meaning it offers unrivalled views of the surrounding valleys.
This home is ideally located for those looking for a quiet and relaxed place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. After gathering for breakfast, why not head out with your party to explore one of the walking trails through the hillsides. You could also choose to see the landscape from the air by booking a helicopter ride through the villa owners or do a full-day horse trek to make memories in this beautiful setting.
It would be a shame to spend your holiday in Tuscany without paying a visit to the incredible Bolgheri wine region, which produces world-class wines. Some vineyards you can visit include Tenuta Ornellaia and Cantina Petra Wine, where you can enjoy tours of the grounds, learn more about winemaking and purchase a few bottles to pair with dinner. Bolgheri also has a lovely hilltop village which you can visit. The village is 30km away and a delightful place to spend the morning before an afternoon vineyard trip. As you wander around the medieval streets, you will see a vast fortress, old walls, centuries-old churches, artisan shops, and numerous eateries.
Also near to Bolgheri is the seaside town of Cecina where you can find a wide range of shops, cafés and restaurants. Cecina is a wonderful place to spend the day and has walking routes along the riverside, a lively marina, piazzas filled with markets, and a great Archaeological park with Roman and Etruscan ruins. Cecina is best known, however, for its beaches, and there are a few to choose from whether you wish to try out some water sports or are looking for a little cove for swimming. Marina di Bibbona is a lovely beach a little further down the coast with Blue Flag status and is backed by a huge pine forest which offers welcome shade in the heat of the day.
Tuscany is known for its beautiful hilltop villages and towns, and there are plenty that you can easily reach from the villa. Volterra is another town you should add to your itinerary and is 38km away from the house. This atmospheric town is filled with picture-postcard architecture and Roman ruins for you to see as you stroll around the winding, maze-like streets. Art lovers will be thrilled by the great galleries here, little shops, and artists' studios selling paintings and locally made crafts. While here, you can also explore the museums and the beautiful Palazzo Viti.
