Overview of Villa Natoli

What Oliver loves…

  • A rare and inspiring chance to live within a building of such historical importance to the region in which you are visiting.
  • The view out to sea, and across to the island of Capri is astonishingly beautiful, and the many balconies and terraces give the impression that you are floating high above this breathtaking landscape.
  • At one of the highest points in Massa Lubrense you are left in absolute blissful peace with nature.

What you should know…

  • The villa itself is a historical relic, and so it must be treated with respect and care.
  • Guests will need to rent a car for getting around the local area.
  • There is no wheelchair access.

Staying at Villa Natoli is to step into the history of the region. It was in this magnificent home back in 1808 that the king of Naples planned his successful siege to retake Capri from the English. Today you can take in the unrivalled, astonishing views of the island in absolute luxury, and understand just why he chose this regal location.

In an isolated corner of Massa Lubrense guests can lounge out on the terraces, on wrought iron furnishings or in the private pool surrounded by Mediterranean plants, the peaceful sounds of birdsong and the waves gently lapping at the shore below. Inside the house has been faithfully preserved, with 19th century majolica tiling, and antique artworks and furniture.

The pearls of the Amalfi coast, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello are also close by, and hiring a boat to view them in all their glory is an unforgettable experience. This service, as well as cookery classes, wine tasting, snorkelling, and in-house chef can easily be arranged by the wonderful team of staff, who will ensure you really do live like a king at Villa Natoli.

Interior & Grounds

From the limestone entrance, one enters through the simple and sobre 16th century doorway into a paved stone hall, the room enriched with vases and antique moulds tastefully chosen to maintain the living memory of this place.

To the left one reaches the first hall, used for serving the breakfast, also adapted for small receptions, for reunions or classy events; it can also be used as an area to sit back and enjoy some peace and quiet.

On entering, one’s glance is immediately captured by Capri, which through the window seems to be a something of a living painting, with its resplendant sea a-sparkle around it

The splendid beauty of this landscape completes the hall: from the terrace one can admire the Gulf of Naples and the Sorrentine Peninsula from different angles. From the hall one can reach one of the bedrooms, replete with period furniture and bathroom. The hall to the right of the doorway is reserved for the staff of the villa

Each room is steeped in history: the three bedrooms, the two comfortable bathrooms, one can alternate between the two very intimate and cosy rooms and three living area’s with period furnishings. All the area’s have windows or balconies which give a sense of being suspended above the sea.

The ‘suite’ has been conserved intact and in fact one supposes that this is where Gioacchino Murat slept in 1808. Between these frescoed walls, English Commander Hudson Lowe agreed to surrender the Island of Capri to Murat.

One will find the most beautiful and spacious villa terrace on this floor

The kitchen is built using typical glazed ceramics from the 19th century, primarily in azzure blue and decorated with charming motifs typical of the Sorrentine Peninsula. The period wood fireplaces leave an unforgettable sensation of stepping back in time. The kitchen has been adapted to include all modern fittings.

In this enchanting place there are two terraces, both furnished in wrought-iron tables and chairs where one can sit back and enjoy moments of sublime pleasure. The first is on the ground floor, with access from the hall: its intimate location is especially perfect for moments of relaxation.

The second, on the first floor, lies across one end of the building to the other. The large area provides ample space to host open-air events and it is furnished with tables embellished with 19th century with majolica tiles

The solarium, which one accesses via the stone staircase from the first floor, is thoughtfully furnished with sunbeds, showers and towels to provide a perfect place for sunbathing.

The swimming pool (3 X 9 MT. depth from 0.80 - 1.80 MT) with its view over the Bay of Naples is in a sheltered corner of the gardens among typical Mediterranean plants which blend perfectly with the natural landscape, allowing time in peace and privacy.
