Casa Campanile is a unique, secluded and preserved oasis of authentic southern Italian rustic life, which has had a taste of modern luxury and design breathe new life into its wonderful ancient dwelling. Located on the boot of Italy, near the Cilento coast of Salerno province, this wonderful estate embodies privacy, a gentle and elegant pace of life, a sumptuously fertile spot amid vineyards, olive groves and pine trees.

Set in the hillside, the scent of orange and lemon trees mingles with the sea breezes, this home offers a true get away from the bustle of modern outdoor life; in fact, time appears to stand still, within the thick walls of this three hundred-year-old home, which remains fresh and cool in summer, whilst being warm and well insulated in winter.

Surrounded by its own expansive and delightful grounds, with many little secluded romantic corners too, for example, enjoy coffee or a cool drink, or for children to roam freely exploring every hidden nook. Beautiful original stone clad exteriors are offset by the archetypal terracotta roof. The outdoor spaces enable refined and relaxed al fresco dining experiences, whether it be an evening meal with local wines and grilled fresh fish on the moonlit dappled veranda or a breakfast of fresh local pastries and juices by the stunning poolside area, the whole group will delight in this marvelously low key yet elegant home.

Entering into this wonderful home, guests will take in that this is far from yet another sterile and anonymous, cookie-cutter holiday rental - on the contrary, every corner is infused with panache and verve, stylistic grandeur, wonderful artwork, chandeliers, solid wood furnishings, ornamental character - it is steeped in the sense of the estate’s history, whilst having every modern comfort. The exposed timber beams and whitewashed interiors retain the authentic farmhouse feel.

The opulent style continues into the wonderfully chic and comfortable bedrooms, finished with style and grace, crisp White Company bed linen and far reaching rural views. Designer confidence brings a new edge to this ancient home; every detail has been finessed with the hallmarks of quality: designer lighting by Aldo Bernardi and Sonos sound system, to name a few.

Classic Italian architecture, infused with a depth of character - from pretty tiles, wooden shutters, aged birch wooden beams - is finished here with uncompromising quality. Four en-suite bedrooms offer guests the utmost in comfort and style, while the kitchen is fitted with state of the art appliances, and the dining room sets the scene for large and colourful group meals!

Needless to say, all the necessary touches are present, such as designer wetrooms, wi-fi throughout and elegant parasols and al fresco dining furniture.

Casa Campanile is nestled in the south western “boot” part of Italy, located near the Cilento coast, nestled in a region that is fertile with vineyards, olive groves and forests.

Known for its ancient ruins, dramatic coastline and wonderful beaches, this region is famous for the bays of Salerno and the iconic lifestyle of the graceful Amalfi coast.

Amalfi itself is so attractive with its ochre tones, set in a fertile region know for its fresh produce, boat trips and long sandy beaches are the tone of the day. Seafood restaurants are aplenty, as are small, little authentic towns set within the cliffs.

Pompei requires a full day (and plenty of cooling drinks in the heat of the summer.) This ancient preserved town has been crystalised in time; the statues are a sobering and unforgettable sight. Parents of toddlers should be aware that the streets are cobbled; the cafe offers a good selection of ice lollies however.

Naples itself is buzzing and bustling working city; the markets, the narrow streets with their outdoor washing lines and cobbled alleyways offer a true taste of southern Italian colour and life, along with plenty of history, beautiful churches and allegedly the best pizza Italy has to offer.

Sorrento looks over the Bay of Naples on the Sorrentine Peninsula; sitting on the clifftops that separate the town from its busy marinas, it is renowned for its sweeping water views across the waters and central Piazza Tasso, the cafe lined square. The centre of Sorrento is steeped in history; within a warren of narrow alleys the Chiesa di San Francesco is a sight to behold; a 14th century church in rich, opulent Italian style with tranquil cloisters. Right across, Capri is a fun boat trip away, with smart restaurants and wonderful fine sandy beaches.

Whether it be hiking, fine cuisine or historical sites, this part of Italy offers opportunity in abundance. The Lattari mountains hug the Sorrentine peninsula impressively. Jazz concerts in the open air are popular in the summer months, and the renowned Museo Correale di Terranova is a must-see for art lovers.

Best Suited For: All Ages

Casa Campanile comes into its own when children enter its magical enclaves: the outdoors will prove ideal for children’s poolside meals or snacks, whilst the interiors are enchanting for youngsters. The pool will enable hours of splashy fun, or for older children to perfect their moves. The multiple bedrooms mean the family can spread out; day time siestas in the quiet, cool calm of the bedrooms will be ideal when the sun gets too much for smaller members of the group, whilst the eat in kitchen offers ample space for after beach snacks.

In this part of Italy, during the summer months, the town life comes alive of an evening, with small children all part of evening piazza life. Running around the open piazzas freely and safely in their evening wear as their parents look on from outdoor terraced restaurants.

The lawns, the space, the little hide-outs in the gardens will provide hours of fun for youngsters.

The local beaches offer sun loungers and parasols for hire, with an array of water front family friendly restaurants and gelato spots.

The Marina Grande in Sorrento is a lovely little spot for collecting sea shells and chasing fish whilst parents sit by sipping a cool beer.

For those youngsters interested in history, curious minds will be intrigued by the gladiatorial arenas and mysterious catacombs the area is rich with. Pompeii is a trip that younger members of the group will not forget in a hurry: ancient cisterns, passageways and ghoulish cemeteries really bring history to life!

Children are just adored in southern Italy and welcome virtually everywhere! The glut of museums will offer an escape from the day time heat - namely, Museo Archeologico Virtuale where ancient ruins are bought to life with holograms and videos, or the Museo della Carta - a story of the regions proud paper making traditions.

Small visitors will simply be delighted by what is known as the best gelato in the world and the sweet custard filled pastries and buns that the region is famous for.

  • It doesn't get any better than this!

Posted by Daniels Rinard on 17/08/2019

It doesn’t get any better than this! Our family of 5 plus my parents had a WONDERFUL time at Casa Campanie! Nigel, Dawn, and Max: you created a gem, a place where every morning we woke up and were breath-taken by our view, by the warm, stunning pool, by the beautifully decorated rooms, and by your attention to detail regarding our happiness. We cannot wait to return and go on more adventures in this beautiful area. A special thank you for putting huge smiles on my parents’ faces. Big hugs to you all!

  • Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Searching the web for a stay in Italy? How do you choose? I have to say we were lucky enough that Casa Campanile chose us! Each time I searched, I kept coming back to Casa Campanile. It's warmth and charm with infinity pool and breathtaking views, looked like the perfect holiday. The 300 year old farmhouse was even better in person! Tucked perfectly off the beaten path for peace and quiet, nicely appointed with everything necessary to settle into a relaxing get away. Nigel and Dawn greeted the 6 of us upon arrival with open arms, so warm and welcoming. They offered to help with taxi service, restaurant reservations and tours, they were so attentive to our needs. The kitchen was stocked with items we ordered ahead of time and Nigel introduced us to Chef, Mikka, whom he arranged to cook an authenticate Italian meal (our request) for our first evening, . Wood stoves were lit for our comfort and Mikka prepared a wonderful meal straight from her Nonna's recipe box! Mikka is the sweetest! Much to our surprise, we had the pleasure of being entertained by Mikka's brother in law, Lu' and his friend Pietro who play in a local band called Maiutike'. Lu' played guitar and ukulele, Pietro had an amazing assortment of percussion instruments. They sang songs we loved and the two of them really wowed us! The multi course meal was AMAZING but the music pushed the evening over the top! Truly a wonderful and unforgettable evening.... smile. We didn't have time to take advantage of The Pinelli motor yacht, but maybe next time! Nigel, Dawn and Max are THE MOST gracious hosts you'll ever know, and fun people too! Il Rifugio will keep you dreaming of your next visit.

  • Special place

Posted by Sarah and Martin on 25/08/2018

This is a very special place tucked away in the Italian countryside with fabulous views. There are amenities to cater for every weather. We enjoyed snuggling down in the lounge watching films on the home cinema when it rained. There are two log burners and heating in the bedrooms and our ensuite even had a heated wall! The house is also lovely and cool in hot weather and the terrace and pool both enjoy the fantastic views. Nearby Agropoli is a lovely seaside town and I loved the fact that I was off the tourist trail and experiencing the "real Italy". Having said that we were still close enough to the popular Amalfi coast for a day trip. I can't wait to return!

  • Stunning

    Posted by Jayne on 29/07/2018

Have just returned from a few days at Casa Campanile. It is easy when visiting southern Italy to head straight to the Amalfi Coast, which is as busy as it is beautiful; so it felt like an escape heading off to Agropoli.

The house is stunning with impeccable attention to detail. Sitting on the terrace, the views are uninterrupted making it an inspiration to work via the superfast broadband or relax watching the colours change and letting the day pass. The infinity pool is perfect to cool off and exercise.

One of the great things about the Cilento region is access to home-grown seasonal produce that is simple and quick to prepare. Buffalo mozzarella, fresh fish, pasta, tomatoes and the local Marino wines make it easy to stay on the estate and cook in the wonderful kitchen using their home produced olive oil.

My absolute favourite thing about Casa Campanile was our bedroom suite where the exposed brickwork with wooden shuttered windows was both grand and cooling. Our en-suite allowed us to shower with the Juliet windows open looking onto the land, feeling the sun and making it a really unique experience.

Of course we had to leave the house at some point, so a trip on the luxury boat with super friendly crew ready and waiting to take you wherever you want to go was the perfect day out.

Thanks to the whole team for welcoming us and making our holiday.
