At Casa Borroni - a pretty whitewashed villa with the terracotta-tiled roof in a secluded residential area, you can do all of this and more. From your gardens, step straight down into the fresh, fresh waters of the lake. If you're feeling adventurous, take out the kayak and appreciate the green surroundings from afar.

This two bedroom holiday home with arched windows and delightful plants dotted around outside can sleep up to five in its cosy spaces. Traditionally styled - the living area, though snug and inviting, is stylish, boasting a characteristic fireplace, pretty rugs and seating. There's even a billiard table for all the family to enjoy. And a separate kitchen and dining area is perfect for those nights in. With two welcoming double bedrooms and bathrooms, plus an extra single bed, it's perfect for family life.

Casa Borroni is perfectly located on the edge of the south-western shores of Lake Maggiore, half-way between the lakeside towns of Stresa (11km) and Arona (8km).

Set in a quiet residential area, it’s just a short walk to the local village – simply follow a pedestrian walkway behind the house with wonderful lake views. Here you will find a handful of restaurants, shops and other useful amenities in a very pretty setting. There is also a lakeside beach around 50m away or guests can walk about ten minutes to reach an Olympic-sized swimming pool and tennis courts.

Stresa (11km) is one of the lake’s most popular resort towns with a stunning lakeside promenade, pretty shops and charming restaurants as well as a ferry service with departures to other towns around the lake. One of the greatest attractions of this town is the cable car that ascends to Mount Mottarone where there are breathtaking panoramic vistas – if you follow the paths for 15 minutes after reaching the summit you will be rewarded with incredible views of all seven surrounding lakes. Keen walkers can follow further trails for yet more spectacular scenery. You can also stop off half-way on the cable car to visit the beautiful Alpine Gardens.

The enchanting Borromeo Islands are also easily visited from Stresa or head a little further north to the marble quarries of Baveno (15km). For an amazing day trip with a difference, pick up the narrow gauge train at Domodossola (with connections from Stresa) and it will take you through magnificent mountain scenery as far as Locarno, crossing the Swiss border. A ferry then slowly and gently takes you back to Stresa in the late afternoon. 

Arona, just 8km south, is another lovely place to spend some time with its picturesque piazzas, lanes and lakefront or even closer visit Meina (4km) with its lakeside beaches and summer watersports. This is also a wonderful region for hiking trails through the hills and mountains as well as horse-riding and some superb golf courses, the nearest being just a 20-minute drive away. 

If you are wishing to explore further afield, head to the enchanting Lake Orta with Orta San Giulio (23km) just half an hour away. Milan can also be reached in just over an hour by car (or ninety minutes by train from the local station).

Children will love staying so close to Lake Maggiore with so much to do in the neighbourhood and beyond.

As well as being walking distance to a handful of restaurants and shops, there are tennis courts and an Oympic-sized swimming pool that you can pay to use just a ten-minute walk away. You can also have lovely picnics or simple paddling time on the pebble beach just 50m from the cottage.

Within a short drive you will find boat hire and a choice of summer watersports on the lake, as well as some glorious walking paths and horse-riding opportunities in the hinterland. Of course cycling is also a popular pursuit in this region.

A day out in Stresa is a must, especially a trip on the cable car which will take you to the summit of Monte Mottarone – once at the top, walk a little further and marvel at the spectacular views of all seven lakes surrounding you.

Of course, there are plenty of boat trips departing from Stresa to other gems in the island, including the beautiful and much-loved Borromeo Islands.

These terms and conditions may be amended from time to time.

Security deposit €800 paid in cash to the owner upon arrival and refunded upon departure, subject to full inspection.
Arrival time 4.00 p.m. (late arrival between 7.00 and 9.00 p.m. on request, subject to a €50 fee, payable locally).
Departure time 10.00 a.m.
Energy costs included? Included in the rental price.
Linen & towels included? Yes, and weekly linen change included.
Pets welcome? Well behaved dogs on request only and with prior agreement with the owner. If accepted, a pet supplement of €60 per pet per week will apply (payable locally).
End of stay cleaning included? Yes. However, guests are required to leave the accommodation clean, tidy and in the same condition as on their arrival. Any extra cleaning, laundry, maintenance and/or rubbish disposal required will be charged against the security deposit.
Smoking Allowed? Outside only.
Insurance Guests are required to be in possession of a valid insurance policy, which covers them for cancellations, personal belongings, personal liability and any accidental damage caused during their stay.
Minimum stay 2022: 5 nights from end-August to beginning-January. 7 nights during all other periods. 2023: 7 nights. All other changeover days on request.
Heating costs included? 2022: Extra €30.00 per day, payable locally. 2023: Extra €40.00 per day, payable locally.
Tax Italian Visitors Tax payable locally in cash (typically costs €1-€3 per adult per night- please enquire if exact amount is required).

Other Ts and Cs Cots available on request (€100 per week, payable locally).
