This nineteenth century residence is the ideal base from which to explore the beauty of the surrounding area, or to simply enjoy the vistas from the comfortable shaded terrace.
Set over five floors, exposed beams and parquet floors are just some of the exquisite details found throughout the villa, whilst outside the large and softly landscaped garden provides a haven for either swimming in the pool under the Lombardy sun, taking in the exquisite views of Lake Maggiore, or simply having a post-lunch snooze under the shade of a tree.
Bedrooms are spacious and airy with a generous allowance of bathrooms, whilst down on the ground floor guests can enjoy table tennis in the traditional brick covered patio, and choose between a casual barbecue in the garden or an elegant evening meal under vaulted ceilings. Plenty of comfy couches are found throughout the property for those seeking a quiet moment, or on the villa’s terrace you can relax with an aperitif whilst enjoying the feel of traditional stone tile underfoot.
Something guests will be sure to enjoy is the wealth of choice that the villa's location offers. You only need to drive 10 minutes to enjoy watersports fun on nearby Lake Maggiore, or take a short drive to Laveno, less than 20 minutes away. Here you can take the car ferry to the opulent town of Verbania, with its lovely palatial gardens and convenient proximity to the wondrous Borromean Islands that sit within spectacular Lake Maggiore itself.
A regional feast awaits visitors to this special region - make the most of the local gourmet specialties such as delicious mortadella, wild mountain honey and of course excellent wine, for an al fresco lunch either in the garden or on the villa’s tranquil and shady terrace. Why not finish your meal by treating yourself to something sweet and delectable, such as a traditional Lombard torta?
It’s easy to explore the local vicinity by taking a 10 to 15 minute walk to one of a handful of medieval churches in the village, stopping at one of the local trattorias for refreshments along the way. Just some of the world-renowned wines local to the region include Barbera and Nebbiolo - or ask the locals for their expert recommendations! The village also has the benefit of a supermarket as well as its two eateries and two very pretty historical holy sites.
The gorgeous Lake Maggiore is of course the jewel in the local crown, and it being under 10 minutes away by car means you can easily enjoy its lakeside botanical gardens and palaces, hire boats and pedalos, take various lake tours and explore any number of walking trails that ribbon the landscape around the lake. Also just a 30 minute drive from the villa is the mountaintop view at Passo del Cuvignone, or whisk yourself away to the bright lights and big city excitement of Milan, 90 minutes away in the car.

About the surrounding area of Casa BegoniaOverlooking the famed Lake Maggiore in the region of Lombardy, where mountains, hills and castles can be found scattered like gems across the surrounding landscape, the villa is located in a sleepy hillside street and surrounded by other secluded houses. Despite its sleepy location, it benefits from being only an hour and a half from all the excitement and sophistication of Milan.
The villa itself is a delight to be in and to spend time just as you please, but you can also take a short stroll of around ten minutes to the local village bars and trattorias, where you can sample regional delights including world renowned cheeses, cured meats and excellent mountain honey. In addition to the supermarket, also within walking distance, and the small and rustic churches - which are the perfect discovery for those seeking historical sites with their own special jewel box charm – just a half hour drive away is the scenic mountain vista point of Passo del Cuvignone, which is also an ideal biking trail for keen cyclists who are looking for a steep trail, with a stunning view from the top as a well-earned reward.
Of course, it would be remiss not to mention the magical Borromean Islands, located in Lake Maggiore itself. Accessible by boat across the lake, access is usually from Stresa or Verbania, a journey which itself makes for a picturesque trip by car around the shores of the lake.
Less than a 10 minute drive away lies the heart of Porto Valtravaglia, set on the shores of picturesque Lake Maggiore. Explore its quaint streets on foot to discover its historical churches cathedrals, and monuments, stop for an al fresco lunch overlooking the lake, or why not spend an afternoon hiking one of the many trails that lace the nearby hills.
Milan is less than a 2 hour car ride away, but for those who prefer somewhere slower paced, less than an hour’s drive away from the villa is the city of Varese, an absolute gem of a destination that boasts a plethora of gardens, parks and magnificent art nouveau palazzos, many of which are open to the public. Shops and cafes abound in this compact and charming city, where you can enjoy coffee whilst people watching and taking in the architectural sites. Also well worth visiting while in the area is the sacred site of Sacro Monte di Varese, a popular pilgrimage accessible via a cobbled path up the mountain, culminating in the tiny village of Santa maria del Monte, a restful delight waiting for those who reach the top!

Best Suited For: All AgesAn ideal way to entertain the kids locally is to get everyone out on the water – Lake Maggiore is a very short drive away and offers boats, canoes, and kayaks, all for hire at various spots along the lake’s long and winding shores.
Less than an hour and a half away on the outskirts of the town of Stresa is a fantastic botanical garden, Parco della Villa Pallavicino, that is ideal for kids to explore, having a children’s play area as well as various unusual animals wandering the grounds such as peacocks, zebra, racoons and deer.
Another top choice, and around 2 hours away by car to Bergamo, is the popular Leolandia, a theme park with rides, a miniature village, live shows, a farm and even an aquarium! With something for everyone to enjoy and hours of fun for the whole family, it provides a full day out of exhilarating fun.
