Occupying a prime position right by Lake Como in a small San Siro hamlet is striking Casa Mirabellano. Once an old fishermen’s house, it has been transformed into a large and lovingly-styled holiday home that offers a tranquil lakeside experience.

Casa Mirabellano has retained much of its original charm, which can be seen and felt throughout its warm and inviting rooms. An abundance of wood furnishings and beautiful ceiling beams reflects the villa’s fishing heritage, with there even being a boat on the kitchen ceiling! The well-equipped kitchen is on the ground floor and has open access to the charming dining room, as well as direct access to the lakeside patio.

Upstairs is where you’ll find the spacious living room with comfortable seating ideally positioned to watch television as well as admire the lake views. There are also glass doors that open onto a lovely balcony. There are two double bedrooms, with one having its own ensuite bathroom. There’s also a raised area off one of the bedrooms that has two single beds under the sloping roof. Bathing is always a relaxed experience at Casa Mirabellano, with one of the two family bathrooms featuring a luxurious hydro-massage bathtub. Even more indulgent is the small sauna in the basement where you can unwind after a long day exploring the beautiful Lake Como area.

Providing further accommodation is a separate apartment with private, external access. This comprises of an open kitchen/sitting room, a double bedroom and a bathroom. This cosy apartment is ideal for an additional couple.

The apartment has a terrace with a small table and chairs, as well as some sun loungers for soaking up the idyllic views over the water. The villa also has an outdoor dining terrace, with the lakeside patio just moments away.

As Casa Mirabellano is nestled within rocks right by the shore, you can be swimming in the lake and boating in no time. You can also get involved with other popular watersports in the region, such as sailing and windsurfing. There are plenty of hiking trails that start near the shore too.

The heart of the hamlet is also just a short walk away, with its maze of narrow, cobbled streets full of historic buildings and there’s a pizzeria for you to try. Other historic places along Lake Como are easily reached by ferry from port towns such as Menaggio, which is just 7 km south of the villa. You can also enjoy a few rounds on Menaggio’s large golf course.

Seconds after stepping outside the villa you can be enjoying the views from the lakeside terrace. And swimming in the idyllic waters of Lake Como just a few moments after that. Casa Mirabellano really does have one of the best positions of any villa along this stretch of Lake Como. A pizzeria is just a short walk away from the villa whilst a supermarket and other amenities are 2 km to the south.

As the local town (2km) is a former fishing village, the atmosphere throughout its winding streets dotted with brightly-coloured buildings and cobbled steps is traditional and laidback. There’s also a lot of history to discover. Sightseeing highlights include an ornate, 14th-century church and a 13th-century castle that overlooks the village.

Make the most of your proximity to the water by trying watersports in the area such as windsurfing and sailing. You can also follow hiking trails that start from the shore and take you to all kinds of beautiful spots in the area.

Menaggio (7 km) has a ruined medieval castle to discover, with walks along its walls offering panoramic lake views. Bringing things right up the date is the Lido with swimming pools, a sandy beach and plenty of activities for children.

Drive to Griante (10km) and take a 10-minute ferry ride to Bellagio, which is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful towns in Europe. One of its most-famous attractions is Villa Serbelloni Park, an immaculately-manicured garden with peaceful lake views. Another villa with an impressive garden is Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo (12km). It boasts a picturesque botanical garden and an extensive art collection housed in the villa itself.

Como (43km) is livelier than many of its neighbours along Lake Como. It takes things up a notch with a funicular railway that goes up to the village of Brunate with dramatic views along the way. Down in the city is a 15th-century cathedral, a museum dedicated to Como’s silk industry and a lakeside promenade to stroll around.

You can be swimming in the lake almost immediately, via steps, after leaving Casa Mirabellano, as well as windsurfing and sailing nearby. Also take the children to the Lido at Menaggio (7 km) for hours of fun in the swimming pool, on the sandy beach and in the playground.

Just taking the ferry over from Griante (10 km) to Bellagio is an experience in itself. Another exciting mode of transport is the funicular railway in the city of Como (43 km) that ascends all the way up to Brunate. It’s an experience like no other, and the panoramic views over Como once you reach the top are spectacular.
