Overview
A chic property with stunning views of the Aegean Sea, Santorini Indigo sits on a hillside in the village of Pyrgos. Offering privacy, this five-bedroom villa can accommodate up to ten guests.
A spacious outdoor terrace looks out to sea and offers a pool, hot tub, seating area and sun loungers, creating a very inviting space. You also have a lovely outdoor dining area with seating for eight. The building’s rugged exterior contrasts its sleek interiors, with a comfortable living space with elegant furnishings and a stylish kitchen forming part of one open-plan area.
The villa is equipped with Wi-Fi, air conditioning and satellite TV, as well as hotel-style extras like robes, slippers, hairdryers, a safe and well-stocked minibar.
The accommodation is split between the main house and a separate guest house. The main house has three bedrooms, with another two in the guest house. Queen-size beds, private bathrooms and beautiful furnishings give all the bedrooms lots of style. The guest house also has a private terrace, kitchen, living area and bathrooms.
Pyrgos village has several nice places to eat and is within easy travelling distance of all of Santorini’s other towns and landmark sights. This stunning island is known for its caldera on the western side – a lagoon of sea water which was the result of a huge volcanic eruption more than 3600 years ago. A volcano sits in the middle of the lagoon, which you can visit and walk upon.
There is spectacular scenery all over the island, with a variety of archaeological sites, wineries and beaches to visit. You can also find a good range of restaurants and the island’s best shopping in the larger towns of Fira and Oia.
What you should know…
- A car is helpful to get around the island, but there is also a good public bus service. Taxis, however, are in short supply
- Santorini Airport is about 10 minutes’ drive from Pyrgos. The whole island is within a reasonable driving distance – it should take about 45 minutes to get from one end to the other

Location
About the surrounding area of Santorini IndigoSmall enough to get around easily but large enough to have a lot to offer, Santorini is the Greek island you don’t want to miss. Full of beautiful scenery and with a magnificent coastline, it’s both richly historic and geologically fascinating.
The big draw on the western side of the island is the caldera, a vast lagoon which was created by a huge volcanic eruption more than 3600 years ago. The Nea Kameni volcano which sits in the middle of the lagoon is perhaps the island’s biggest attraction – you can go and walk on it as there is apparently no danger of it erupting any time soon.
Many of Santorini’s beaches may be full of pebbles and volcanic rock rather than sand, but they are still popular nonetheless. After all, the sea views are still spectacular, and you can often find beachfront bars and restaurants to relax in. In the south east, the best sandy beaches, such as Perissa, are found. For something a bit less crowded, you could also try Monolithos to the north. Near Akrotiri, look out for the Red Beach – so called due to its red volcanic cliffs which contrast wonderfully with the indigo-coloured sea.
There’s more to see in this area, with the Akrotiri Lighthouse a significant local landmark. Also notable are the impressive ruins of Akrotiri, now housed in an archaeological centre which has been built around them. The prehistoric remains of the village have been largely stripped of artefacts, many of which can be found in In the Museum of Prehistoric Thira, among them frescoes and items of pottery.
Several wineries can be found around the island, many of them to the south of Santorini’s main town, Fira. Many offer tours which are another pleasant way to enjoy the sunshine and learn about wine production in the area.
There are some good climbs to be had on Santorini if you’re in the mood to exert yourself. At 565m, the island’s highest point is the summit of the Profitis Elias mountain, where there is a monastery. You can also make the steep ascent to Ancient Thera from Perissa, another of Santorini’s archaeological gems.
The larger towns of Fira and Oia, as well as Imerovigli and Firostefani, all offer an impressive range of restaurants. You can certainly experience high-end dining if you choose to, but there are plenty of options. You won’t find that many on the isle of Thirassia, but this pretty island on the other side of the caldera is well worth a day trip. You can hop on the ferry at Oia, a town in the north of the island which also offers a good range of museums, galleries and shops.

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesChildren will love the laidback atmosphere of Santorini. While it’s not full of theme parks and other kid-friendly stuff, they will still feel welcome and be able to get up to some unforgettable adventures.
With a coast like Santorini’s, you are sure to want to take a boat trip or a catamaran cruise, or perhaps take part in a water sport like kayaking or snorkelling. If you fancy seeing some of the shipwrecks that lay beneath the waters of Santorini, there are many opportunities to go scuba-diving. Plenty of beaches are good for sunbathing, with parasols and loungers at the likes of Perissa and Perivolos in the south – and there are always the stunning red cliffs of Red Beach to admire.
Not far from the popular Kamari Beach, you can also enjoy a movie at the open-air cinema. For more culture – and an escape from the hot sun for a while – pop into the beautiful Atlantis Bookshop in Oia. It’s heaving with books and has become something of an attraction, rated by bibliophiles as one of the world’s best bookshops. With books in multiple languages and plenty of rarities, they might have that obscure title you’ve been searching for.
Kids will also enjoy Oia’s Santorini Maritime Museum, a small but interesting museum with model ships and nautical memorabilia. An alternative to the nautical theme is the Akrotiri Lighthouse. While you can’t go inside, this landmark’s location is very appealing. If they fancy taking to the water, there’s no better reason than to visit the Nea Kameni volcano out in the lagoon – it’s an experience they are sure to remember.
In the same area as the lighthouse, there are also ancient ruins of Akrotiri, which you definitely shouldn’t miss. Meanwhile, the Museum of Prehistoric Thira offers a chance to see some of the artefacts that have been excavated from the site in recent years.
While they may be too young to enjoy the end result, a visit to one of the island’s many wineries is an interesting experience. A ferry trip from Oia to the separate island of Thirassia also makes a good day trip, and while in Oia you can enjoy all sorts of restaurants, galleries and shops, as this is one of the larger towns on Santorini.
