Rhodes in an island of two halves. In the north, you’ll find the bustling, popular towns and wild nightlife of hotspots like Faliraki.

Meanwhile, here in the tranquil south, life’s much slower and more serene. Here the landscape is rugged and dramatic, with steep cliffs and vast plateaus. Amid the miles of untouched land are ancient ruins, each with its own history and impressive structure!

Along this south-eastern coast you will find countless opportunities for water sports, as well as more relaxing sunbathing, building sandcastles and paddling. Indeed, life congregates around this fantastic coastline, so you can truly experience all the best bits just on your doorstep! Whether you’re into snorkelling or full-on scuba diving, you can enjoy the thriving beaches and sea life around you. In fact, the DiveMed Scuba Diving School is less than 10 minutes from the villa so you can definitely give it a try! Other fabulous water sports on offer are surfing, including wind-surfing and kite-surfing, and even jet-skiing, so there’s bound to be something for everyone to enjoy! Although if being in the water isn’t so much your thing, you’ll also find plenty of glass-bottom boat excursions to enjoy it all from a little more of a distance!

A definite local highlight is the Prassonissi beach, undoubtedly one of the most impressive of all of Rhodes’ beaches! Tucked at its southernmost end, it sees two sandy coves meeting to form a magnificent island that can only be reached by swimming, or walking when the weather and tides allow. As well as being a wonderful place to paddle in the shallow water, enjoy the sunshine and beautiful views of the sea and the mountains, it’s also a surfer’s paradise - as you’ll see if you visit in July or August! Give it a go for yourself with boards and wetsuits to hire!

The Medieval Old Town of Rhodes is one of the oldest inhabited medieval cities in Europe, and sits side-by-side with the fabulous, if totally different, new town of Rhodes. Within its high walls an intricate network of unique shops, quaint cafes and welcoming restaurants. And there’s some unmissable buildings, too. The Palace of the Grand Master, with its striking entrance and beautifully well-preserved towers, stands out even among hundreds of equally historic sites. And its interiors are every bit as impressive!

The Island/Getting There

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. It’s got a lot of history as it’s been invaded a lot by the Persians, Carians, Ottomans, Italians, and Germans.

Average temperatures go from 20’c in April up to 30’c in July/ August and down to 20’c in November. With an average of 85 rainy days a year they get sunshine for around 280 days.

The island is 90km long with Rhodes town at the northern tip. The airport (Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras") is also in the North (15km from Rhodes Town). Charter flights and Easyjet operate direct from the UK all season and out of season (Nov-March) you’d need to fly via Athens.

The Acropolis – The Acropolis that sits high above the town of Lindos is absolutely amazing and is a must see if you’re looking for some of the best views in all of Rhodes. One thing I should mention is that the climb up to the acropolis requires you to be somewhat active and able to climb stairs, lots of them. The trail begins through town and slowly but surely starts to get steeper as you climb the hill towards the acropolis. Once there, you’re rewarded with historical buildings dating back to 300 BC. Our Villa Corteau sit just underneath the ruins.

Rhodes has over 40 beaches, here are a few:

  • Anthony Quinn’s Bay – Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the most beautiful bays. The bay is located 17km (10 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and offers some incredible photo opportunities to say the least.
  • The beach at Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the best beaches in Rhodes. Get there early if you want to snag a sunbed and umbrella and enjoy wading around the bright blue and green water. Amazing!
  • For the best views of Anthony Quinn’s Bay from above, head on up to the windy road that leads up the hill just north of the bay and you’ll find a spot where you can sit and enjoy the virtually 180 degree views of Rhodes and its coastline.
  • Tsambika Beach (or Tsampika) –  Tsampika beach is located 30km (18 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and is a great place to spend the day in the sun.  Note: Beware there is a small section where nudists congregate on Tsampika beach
  • Lakido Beach – Just opposite Anthony Quinn’s Bay is Lakido beach. It’s literally 3 minutes walking distance from Anthony Quinn’s bay so visiting both beaches in a day is totally doable. As a matter of fact, I would highly recommend visiting both if you get the chance
  • Faliraki Beach – One of the most popular tourist spots on the island of Rhodes. It was known for 18-30’s holiday in the 90-2000’s but I don’t think there is that market so much now. It is quite commercialised now there are water sports and a few diving schools.

How to reach Rhodes island

There are two ways to reach Rhodes Island: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane: If you don’t want to lose time you can fly to Rhodes (RHO) from Athens. The flight lasts 1 hour. Many direct flights also operate from many European countries, so it will not be difficult to arrive there.

By ferry: If you choose to travel from Piraeus to Rhodes with a ferry, it will surely take you much longer but travelling with a ferry in the summer nights can be pretty enticing! The port of Rhodes is located in the southern part of the island and offers bus services to the town centre. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Kids will adore a stay in Villa Lachania, and are bound to have as much fun as you - or maybe even more?!

Of course, most youngsters will adore this big private pool! They can splash about to their heart’s content before flopping onto the big bed beside it and napping in the sunshine. And this terrace provides a perfect bit of shade for keeping them out of the sun, too, so you can sit and dine in the shade together care-free, without frantically reapplying sun-cream.

And when it’s time for something really relaxing - this brilliant living room is the perfect place for you and the kids to settle in for a film or a favourite TV show! Or even let the kids make themselves at home in front of the TV while you sit out under the stars in the garden. In fact, there’s space for everyone to do exactly what they want, so you needn’t worry! We think any kid would be delighted to have one of these bedrooms to themselves, too, with a superb queen-size bed and lots of space for fun and games!

The world outside the villa is every bit as exciting as the world within it, too. Some of the best beaches in Greece are just minutes away, and Rhodes is known for its incredible scenery! So whether you want to paddle, splash and swim with the youngsters in the tranquil, crystal-clear sea, or you simply want to kick back in a lounger, soak up the sunshine and admire some of the most beautiful beaches on the planet - Rhodes has it all for you!

A local favourite, and you’ll soon see why, is the incredible Prassonissi beach, nestled at the southern end of the island. With two coves meeting and forming a sometimes-island at their tip, as the water meets over the soft golden sand occasionally, making the island accessible only by swimming, it’s a fantastically picturesque spot. And thanks to this fabulous formation, the water is wonderfully shallow - perfect for splashing and paddling with the kids! And like so much of Greece, Rhodes is well-known for its warmth and hospitality, with a long-established history of tourism! Making it perfect for a family holiday of sun, sea and sand without the hassle!
