It is a luxurious oasis of peace, tranquillity and beauty.

Koskinou is considered to be the prettiest village in Rhodes. It is famous for its beautifully painted, colourful houses and its summer festival on 17 July each year, celebrating the name day of St Marina with music and dancing. Visitors to Koskinou enjoy delicious traditional cuisine in the local tavernas as well as wonderful local wines. Koskinou is a vibrant labyrinth of tiny, winding, cobblestone streets sprinkled with 17th and 18th-century neoclassical houses and colourful patios and gardens. You will be minutes away from Kallithea Beach and a short drive from the lively Old Town of Rhodes. The super-sized Kallithea Beach is famous for its hot medicinal springs, which were built by the Italians. Kallithea is stunning, lined with palm and pine trees and sprinkled with beautifully renovated buildings and mosaics, all influenced by Arabic architecture. Rhodes Old Town offers clubbing, shopping therapy, and so much more!

Villa Koskinou sits with five other similarly smart villas on a private road, fifteen minutes walk from the cobbled streets and brightly coloured doorways and facades of the inner heart of Koskinou. It is a prestigious area that is beautifully maintained. You will definitely smile on arrival at your holiday haven. With a plot of approximately 1000 square metres, you can unwind, relax and enjoy a gorgeous landscape.

This modern villa is built over three floors with the living areas on the ground floor, three bedrooms on the first floor and a second master on the top floor. As well as a modern marble staircase, there is a gleaming lift to whisk you between the different floors! The living space is open plan in design with exquisite, sumptuous furnishings waiting to make you very comfortable. A handmade silver and Swarovski crystal light hang dramatically over the dining table while the trendy sofas sit elegantly looking out to the terrace and garden. A contemporary feature fireplace draws your eye, and the giant wall-mounted television offers satellite channels and Netflix. The kitchen is a sleek masterpiece with outstanding appliances. The ground floor is also home to a piano and chess room, a great space for concentration and entertainment.

The three bedrooms on the first floor include one of the two master suites. This master offers a beautifully dressed king-size bed, a walk-in closet with a full-height mirror to check out your holiday outfits, an immaculate ensuite shower room and a fabulous sea view from the balcony. The other two bedrooms on this level are both doubles with twin beds that can be set up on request as kingsize beds. They also enjoy balconies with fabulous sea views. The family bathroom offers a corner bath and shower. There is a small kitchenette on this level so that you don’t have to go far for chilled water. The upper level is home to another master bedroom suite with a superb kingsize bed, an ensuite shower room, a minibar and a private balcony with a glorious sea view. Luxury linens and fine soft furnishings will help you dive deep into slumber. You will also find a useful laundry room on this level as well as a terrace with a sensational panoramic view.

Villa Koskinou offers fantastic outdoor space. There is some architectural landscaped planting surrounding the villa, together with a shaded dining space. A huge terrace is sprinkled with loungers, and the generous 8m x 4.4m swimming pool is a central feature. At the far end of the pool, you will discover a fantastic outdoor kitchen with a built-in barbecue and pizza oven, alfresco dining and a wonderful alfresco lounge area, all under a pergola. Villa Koskinou enjoys a fabulous position on the hillside in Koskinou. It sits very close to the heart of the village, where you will find excellent amenities. Most of the shops provide handy delivery services. The views from the villa are wonderful. As you walk through this upmarket neighbourhood towards the Church of Profitis Ilias, you will enjoy the rolling countryside that heads down to the sea, where you can see the Kallithea Spring. Koskinou is incredibly picturesque. It is famous for its unique mosaic of colours and carries an air of sophistication. Its wood and iron house doors are all painted in vivid colours and enjoy carved or etched designs. The little cobbled gardens are so pretty behind the courtyard doors. The village boasts charming narrow streets, beautiful churches and chapels and a wonderful array of traditional taverns and cafes. There are countless paths that lead from the newer, coastal part to the old village with its cobbled streets and whitewashed squares full of vibrant flowers. Koskinou has enjoyed an interesting history since the 4th century AD. Its 13th-century medieval castle and the chapels built in the 4th century are worth visiting.

Kallithea, just a few minutes away, is situated against a set of world-famous spa baths and stunning beaches. Its tiny inlets and coves, sprinkled with sculptured rocks and caves, are gorgeous. Diving and snorkelling are very popular, as well as the other watersports on offer. The Kallithea Spa was built in 1920 by the Italians. Following its restoration, the spa is a top sight. Many guests visit the area for its crystal clear, azure waters and magical scenery. Kallithea Springs is only five minutes from the villa.

A bit further away, Faliraki is buzzy and vibrant with many hotels, bars, restaurants and an enormous sandy beach. The beach starts at the small harbour and spreads for nearly 5km, so it’s a great spot to head for if you want a day of watersports and lazing in the sun. There is even an inflatable park for the young ones. Just about every watersport imaginable is offered as well as bungee jumping. The nightlife is incredible, with fabulous restaurants, bars and nightclubs. The Faliraki Water Park is fantastic fun and a very popular excursion for families.

The gorgeous Old Town of Rhodes is an intricate warren of busy commercial streets and delightful, quiet alleys. It is the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe and has UNESCO World Cultural Heritage status. It is easy to see why. The Old Town is full of Byzantine and Gothic churches, medieval buildings, mosques, traditional fountains, oriental motifs and many boutique shops and restaurants. The highlights of the Old Town are the Palace of the Grand Master, the Archaeological Museum housed in the Gothic building of the Great Hospital of the Knights, Knight’s Street and some of the mosques. A walk in New City is a fantastic experience with remarkable buildings built by the Italian architect Florestano di Fausto. The small marina is characterful with Rhodian deer statues at the entrance and windmills surrounding it.

You also shouldn’t miss the Valley of the Butterflies and the Lindos Acropolis!

The Island/Getting There

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. It’s got a lot of history as it’s been invaded a lot by the Persians, Carians, Ottomans, Italians, and Germans.

Average temperatures go from 20’c in April up to 30’c in July/ August and down to 20’c in November. With an average of 85 rainy days a year they get sunshine for around 280 days.

The island is 90km long with Rhodes town at the northern tip. The airport (Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras") is also in the North (15km from Rhodes Town). Charter flights and Easyjet operate direct from the UK all season and out of season (Nov-March) you’d need to fly via Athens.

The Acropolis – The Acropolis that sits high above the town of Lindos is absolutely amazing and is a must see if you’re looking for some of the best views in all of Rhodes. One thing I should mention is that the climb up to the acropolis requires you to be somewhat active and able to climb stairs, lots of them. The trail begins through town and slowly but surely starts to get steeper as you climb the hill towards the acropolis. Once there, you’re rewarded with historical buildings dating back to 300 BC. Our Villa Corteau sit just underneath the ruins.

Rhodes has over 40 beaches, here are a few:

  • Anthony Quinn’s Bay – Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the most beautiful bays. The bay is located 17km (10 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and offers some incredible photo opportunities to say the least.
  • The beach at Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the best beaches in Rhodes. Get there early if you want to snag a sunbed and umbrella and enjoy wading around the bright blue and green water. Amazing!
  • For the best views of Anthony Quinn’s Bay from above, head on up to the windy road that leads up the hill just north of the bay and you’ll find a spot where you can sit and enjoy the virtually 180 degree views of Rhodes and its coastline.
  • Tsambika Beach (or Tsampika) –  Tsampika beach is located 30km (18 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and is a great place to spend the day in the sun.  Note: Beware there is a small section where nudists congregate on Tsampika beach
  • Lakido Beach – Just opposite Anthony Quinn’s Bay is Lakido beach. It’s literally 3 minutes walking distance from Anthony Quinn’s bay so visiting both beaches in a day is totally doable. As a matter of fact, I would highly recommend visiting both if you get the chance
  • Faliraki Beach – One of the most popular tourist spots on the island of Rhodes. It was known for 18-30’s holiday in the 90-2000’s but I don’t think there is that market so much now. It is quite commercialised now there are water sports and a few diving schools.

How to reach Rhodes island

There are two ways to reach Rhodes Island: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane: If you don’t want to lose time you can fly to Rhodes (RHO) from Athens. The flight lasts 1 hour. Many direct flights also operate from many European countries, so it will not be difficult to arrive there.

By ferry: If you choose to travel from Piraeus to Rhodes with a ferry, it will surely take you much longer but travelling with a ferry in the summer nights can be pretty enticing! The port of Rhodes is located in the southern part of the island and offers bus services to the town centre. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.

The island of Rhodes is family-friendly, with plenty of activities and entertainment. There are numerous sensational sandy beaches, watersports, the Faliraki Water Park, riding schools, go-karts and much more. Rhodes is known for its stunning beaches. There are many beaches to choose from. Some are silvery sandy stretches, and others are tiny and rocky, perfect for snorkelling or diving to explore underwater life. Some of the most popular beaches are Traganou Beach, Tsambika Beach, Lee Beach, Pefkos Beach, Agathi Beach, Lindos Beach, Faliraki Beach and Plaka Beach. There are many watersports on offer, including paragliding, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, kayaking, snorkelling and diving. The Faliraki Water Park is great fun. It is the largest water park in Greece and boasts a huge selection of extreme speed, open, closed, twisted, free fall and Kamikaze slides, a lazy river, swimming pools and a fun water playground. You can buy one, two or three-day tickets to the park. For sure, your children will be keen to go back once they have enjoyed a thrilling day on the slides.

Children love the Valley of Butterflies, where you can walk through the narrow forest and see the thousands of butterflies that descend during the summer. It is fascinating with the butterflies creating a spectacular phenomenon. You can also visit the Museum of Natural History while in the valley.

Children can learn a lot about the history of Rhodes by visiting some of the island’s other interesting museums. These include the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, the Modern Greek Art Museum, The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, the Folklore Museum, the Rhodes Toy Museum, the Bee Museum and the Filerimos Monastery. The Lindos Acropolis is very popular with history-loving children. Here you can walk in the alleys and ride donkeys from the village centre as well as enjoy Lindos’ fabulous beach.
