What Oliver loves…
- Fantastic nature views of the alluring Ionian sea and mountainside
- Plus, you’re only steps from the sea – walk down your private steps
- Location, location! The villa is in a peaceful spot nestled in the hillside, yet is only a short and scenic drive from Kefalonia’s must-visit sights such as Assos castle, Assos village and Myrtos Bay
Three-bedroomed Assos Helen is named after Helen of Troy – said to have been the most beautiful woman in the world. The villa mirrors her beauty with its simple, elegant and cool contemporary décor.
Expect lashings of greys and beiges spiced up with brightly coloured accents in the soft furnishings and artwork, as well as beautiful tiled flooring and statement lighting. Set in a quiet spot overlooking the glittering waterfront in the north of Kefalonia, the villa provides the perfect escape for couples, friends and families alike.
A generously-sized terrace also surrounds Assos Helen. The result? Panoramic views of the breathtaking landscape. Think picturesque beach of St. Jerusalem, the infinite Ionian Sea and the curves of the bay.
The spacious terrace also entices you to cool off in the private swimming pool, relax on a sea-facing cushioned sunbed or read your holiday book under the protection of the shaded gazebo – all while enjoying the mesmerising vistas. There’s also a barbeque and alfresco dining table, so you enjoy that freshly-bought seafood or a glass of local wine over a magical sunset.
On the ground floor, there’s a fully-equipped kitchen as well as an open-plan sitting area and dining room. Kick back after a day of exploring on the sofa, cooling off in the air conditioning, or plan your next day’s adventures.
With the world-famous Myrtos Bay – a stretch of sandy shore between two mountains – and Assos village with its shops, tavernas and historic sites like Assos castle – both a short and scenic drive away, there’s plenty to see and do.
When you get back, know that comfy beds await. Choose from the stylish master double bedroom or twin bedroom with a separate bathroom on the first floor, or master double bedroom in the spacious attic. The latter overlooks the sitting room and has an en-suite shower/bathroom, as well as more fabulous views of the sea.
The property cannot be booked online. Please note that your booking will only be confirmed once we have checked availability with the owner.
What you should know…
- The steps leading down to the sea are quite steep so you will need to watch your step. You can jump straight into the sea from the platform at the bottom; however if you want to relax on the sandy beach it’s either a short 200-metre swim or a few minutes’ boat ride away
- The villa is part of a complex so although its private, there are other properties nearby
Assos Helen is one of the most beautiful villas, surrounded by a vast terrace illuminated with lavender. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and it can accommodate up to 6 people

Assos Helen is in the quiet and traditional village of Assos on the Ionian Island of Kefalonia. It shot to fame as a set of Louis de Bernieres' wartime novel – and later film – Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Years later, it still feels like an undiscovered secret with its serene natural setting, historic sites and a relaxed atmosphere.
Kefalonia is also renowned for its soft sandy beaches, mountain gorges and quaint harbour villages. Spend your days swimming in the crystal-clear waters, exploring the Venetian-style architecture or trying fresh local cuisine like seafood, mezes or moussaka.
The villa itself offers the perfect starting point for exploring more of this beautiful Ionian island. It’s only a short drive from must-see sights like the 15th-century Assos castle in Assos village and Myrtos bay with its picture-worthy beach that’s framed by tall cliffs – both seen from your terrace.
In Assos village, there are also verdant forests with pine and cypress trees to explore. The town is small and still retains its old-world charm with classic Ionian architecture and pretty pastel-coloured houses nestled into the steep hillside.
At the harbour, you can while away the afternoon watching fishing boats and luxury yachts mooring, while in the village square there are tavernas, shops and restaurants to dine at or do as the locals do and sip cold coffee. Assos beach is also a must visit, with its clear waters and fantastic views across the bay. You can relax on the pebbles or swim and snorkel in the sea.
From the villa, Assos village can be reached by car. The coastal route to get there is spectacular and takes in the dramatic rock formations and tranquil sea waters.
In Kefalonia, you’ll also find many intriguing caves to discover. There’s the magical underground lake of Melissanthi or Drogarati with its exquisite natural formations. You could also hop on a boat and head to the untouched coves, inlets and secluded beaches. Some tours stop off for lunch and swimming.
Or, for a dose of culture instead, head to Saint Gerasimos monastery. It’s an impressive 15th-century building that sits beneath Mount Ainos, near the villages Falgrata and Valsamata.

How to reach Kefalonia island
There are two ways to get to Kefalonia island: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: During the busy months, the airport of Kefalonia (EFL) receives a great number of domestic but also charter flights. The airport is located 7 km outside Argostoli, the capital of the island.
By ferry: Kefalonia has three ports: Sami (SMI), Argostoli (ARM), and Poros (PKE). If you want to arrive in Sami you should depart from Patra (GRA). In case you want to arrive to Poros or Argostoli you can depart from Killini (KIL). The trips last from 1.5 to 3 hours. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.
With its beautiful natural scenery, soft sandy swimming beaches and impressive ancient architecture, Kefalonia is a must visit for families. Assos Helen itself has a private swimming pool and an enclosed terrace area that’s perfect for young children to play safely and in sight.
For days spent by the beach, the world-renowned Myrtos bay with its sheltered, calm swimming waters and soft sandy shore is a short drive away.
There, kids young and old can enjoy splashing about in the water or snorkelling the coastline looking for colourful fish. There’s also pebbly Assos beach that has crystal-clear waters and is close to the village for amenities.
For family-fun day trips, you can jump on a boat from Assos harbour and explore the untouched coves and islets. There are also plenty of caves to explore in Kefalonia like Melissanthi, a magical underground lake and Drogarati with its exquisite natural formations.
Or, to learn about the ancient history, there’s Assos castle, Argostoli Archaeology Museum and Saint Gerasimos monastery.
