The heart of the home is your sumptuous living room, bursting with plush sofas and seats in front of a huge TV and fantastic French doors out into your garden! At the other end of the room, a large dining table joins the lounge to this gorgeous kitchen. Embodying the same soft, natural tones at the living space, the wooden cabinets beautifully compliment the cream worktops. In addition to this fantastic dining area, there’s a second alfresco dining spot in the garden!
Four superb bedrooms invite you to enjoy the most peaceful night’s sleep on luxury COCO-MAT mattresses, as well as totally Zen designs, soothing colours and plenty of natural light! There are three double rooms and a final twin room, each as delightful as the next. Three of the rooms even offer immediate access to the garden or a private terrace - so you can spend more time in the fresh air and the sunshine, ideal for a morning coffee before a big day exploring Crete! And what’s more, each of the four bathrooms (three ensuite) is every bit as beautiful and luxurious. Elegant double vanity units and a mixture of walk-in showers and rain-showers makes for a truly perfect pampering space for our guests!
Your garden is a total delight. Not only is it many layered with balconies and terraces and even a roof terrace, but of course it also offers you a spectacular private pool! Soak and splash in the water before taking restful naps on these soft loungers all around it, basking in the tranquillity and getting that holiday glow! Then, when the sun begins to set and the air is filled with the magic of dusk, why not head to this stunning roof garden and enjoy the surreal views out over the sea and the quaint Kalathas surroundings! Two loungers up here are perfect for getting comfortable, while it’s also an idyllic spot for a little morning yoga or stretching! About the surrounding area of Villa MoustardaWith a stay in Villa Moustarda, you’re ideally located to enjoy the delights of the awe-inspiring Crete landscapes - in particular its superb beaches!
The stunning Kalathas Beach is just a couple of minutes’ walk away, with its beautiful sandy expanse, fantastic views to the mountains in the distance, over the turquoise sea! For a little more life and activity, meanwhile, just 20 minutes to the south is Chania, the capital of Crete and one of the most famous towns of the Greek islands, particularly for its authentic culture and character and historic structures including its beautiful Venetian Harbour.
It is an incredibly well-preserved Venetian town with all kinds of medieval architecture, framing a bustling metropolis of museums, churches, narrow shopping streets, waterfront restaurants and crafts shops. Alongside the stunning coastal areas and mountainous landscapes are an array of outstanding remains and glorious buildings of an ancient era, including a picturesque harbour front and interesting Venetian lighthouse.
Chania is also the perfect location to try all kinds of local cuisine, wine and traditional feasts – some of the best local restaurants include: The Well of the Turk, Antigoni, Karnagio, Chrysostomos and Above Chania. And for educational and historical adventures you can visit the Maritime Museum, or the Archaeological Museum, or take a trip to one of the many surrounding monasteries or historical sites including the Samaria Gorge, Venizelos Graves or the unique architectural complex of Tabakaria.
To the north of the island are the more touristic beach areas, and to the south are the more secluded and traditional beaches, punctuated by small seaside villages, and of course there are thousands of deserted coves and isolated bays for private enjoyment, if you look hard enough! The West Coast beaches of soft sand and coloured pebbles, such as Falasarna, are around an hour away from Villa Moustarda, and the South Coast beaches with beautiful crystal-clear waters, including Sougia, are about 75km away.
The food of Greece is famous for its rich flavours and delicate recipes of Mediterranean delights. Feta and olive oil are universal, while all kinds of fresh fish, fragrant herbs, in-season fruits and crunchy greens, all found in the back garden of the average Greek, await your enjoyment. Be sure to tuck into some of the classic Greek cuisine while you’re here, including the local specialities! As well as this, if you like the occasional tipple you ought to try Ouzo and Raki, two grape based alcoholic drinks, in your time on the island, both firm favourites of the locals. There is also a lot of wine produced across the island!

How to reach Chania
There are two ways to reach Chania: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: Chania Airport (CHQ) is only a 20 minutes ride away from central Chania. During the summer months, frequents overseas and domestic flights are performed. In most of the cases, there are available buses that connect Chania city and most of the villas. You can also hire a car from one of the many rental companies at the airport, or alternatively get a taxi to bring you right to your doorstep.
By ferry: If you choose to do an island-hopping trip and use the ferry as a method of transportation, then the closest port is in Souda, only 8km from the centre of Chania. Only ferries from Piraeus in Athens or Heraklion in Crete. Heraklion port has a wider choice: you can also take a ferry from other Greek islands like Santorini, Mykonos or Paros, but you will have to take a longer bus ride to reach your villa. Best Suited For: All AgesSwimming pools are fantastic for kids of all ages. Particularly when they include a child-safe section like this exquisite one does! And the beauty of Villa Moustarda is that you don’t even have to get in there with them to keep an eye on them! In fact, from most of the rooms or terraces in the villa, you can keep half an eye on the youngsters, whilst delving into your own relaxation or chatting - and know they’re having a good time! As if you needed any more reason to be outdoors - the stunning alfresco dining area means the whole family can dine in style in an unforgettable set up, including a superb BBQ.
Meanwhile, indoors, when the kids are all tuckered out from a day’s running around and exploring, there’s plenty to satisfy them here too. They’re bound to love the PlayStation, giving them something to relax and shut off with, in between the adventure of exploring Crete! And with these big sofas, there’s space for them to find their own quiet spot and get cosy, ready for a little down-time.
With a designated 9-seater bus, you can take the whole group on fabulous road trips around the island, sharing unforgettable family experiences as you head to the Venetian town of Chania, just 20 minutes away, or the world-famous beaches along the coast.
We bet the kids will adore trying out all the different local beaches, from Paralia Macherida in the north to Marathi Beach just towards the southern tip of this stunning mountainous section of Crete. For adventures further afield, you could head east to the incredible Kalives town and its superb, incredibly lively bay. With tons going on, the kids will love all the activity - meaning less for you to worry about, and more for them to enjoy! Or you could even head west to Platanias, the world-famous Falasarna, or even Rapaniana where the sunsets are spectacular! Meanwhile, to the south are the fantastic beaches of Paleochora, Plakias and Elafonisi, nestled on the south coast, all within an hour and half’s drive and each totally different to the other, but all perfect for a little sunbathing for you and paddling and swimming for the kids!
And for staying a little more local, and being a little more impromptu, the stunning Kalathas Beach is just a couple of minutes’ walk away, with its beautiful sandy expanse, fantastic views to the mountains in the distance, over the turquoise sea!

Villa Moustarda was perfect
We stayed at Villa Moustarda for 1 week. The Villa is stunning, well equipped and perfect for 2 families. The rooftop was great for watching the sunset and star gazing. The pool was a good size, very clean, and we'll maintained. The support provided by Stella at Holliways was outstanding. She helped us navigate the local area, arranged a tour, made restaurant recommendations and dinner reservations. We really enjoyed our time in Crete and the villa was a major part of this.

Amazing Spring Break tasting like Summer
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Moustarda few days ago, in April. The Villa is 10 min away from the airport and 15 min from Chania and, since weather was already super, from there we had the chance to visit all the coolest beaches of western Crete, such as Balos, Elafonissi, Seitan Limania, etc...
The Villa is very spacious and it looks exactly like the pictures show. Everything was clean and in perfect conditions, but what surprised us is the fact that the Villa is super accesorized. The kitchen has everything you may need to cook or to prepare a super breakfast. But you’ll also have a washing machine, hairdryers in every bathroom, games to spend some time in the evening, etc.
Really... a far-from-home-like-home feeling!!!
