Overview
Villa Hermes is located on an elevated plot approximately four kilometres from the village of Tavronitis and around 22 kilometres west of Chania. The property offers five bedrooms, generous interior living space, and extensive gardens and terraces, with views across the surrounding countryside and out to sea.
Set within mature landscaped gardens, the villa features traditional stone architecture with multiple balconies and terraces. The interiors reflect a rustic, traditional style, with a bright and spacious living area with large windows and glass doors allowing ample natural light. The room is furnished with a fireplace, a seating area, and a formal dining table. Adjacent to the dining space is a fully equipped kitchen with a breakfast table and direct access to the garden. A guest toilet with a washing machine is located nearby. An internal elevator provides access to all three levels, offering convenience for guests with mobility considerations.
The villa includes five air-conditioned bedrooms: three twin rooms and two double rooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. Two bathrooms feature turbo massage baths, while two others are equipped with turbo massage showers. All bedrooms include televisions, DVD players, and access to a private balcony or terrace. One of the twin rooms is on the lower ground floor, opening to a private terrace and lawn. This level also contains a games room and gym, equipped with a pool table, table tennis, exercise bike, and treadmill. Another bedroom with three single beds and an accessible shower is located on the ground floor. The first floor includes two double bedrooms and one room with three single beds, each with ensuite facilities. The bedrooms follow a consistent design theme with wooden ceilings and furnishings.
Outdoor amenities include a 10m x 5m swimming pool with a separate children's section, a sun deck, a shaded alfresco dining area, and a built-in barbecue and pizza oven. The garden features lawns, mature trees, and planted borders. The villa offers wide-ranging views of the White Mountains and the coastline. While the property provides a peaceful setting for relaxation, nearby beaches, traditional villages, and coastal towns are easily accessible.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa HermesVilla Hermes is in a tranquil rural location with panoramic views over the surrounding countryside and the sea. Positioned 4 km above the village of Tavronitis and near the Rodopos peninsula, it offers easy access to several of Crete's key attractions, including Chania, Kissamos, and the renowned beaches of Balos, Falasarna and Elafonisi. The nearby villages of Tavronitis and Maleme provide a laid-back, authentic Cretan atmosphere, with quiet beaches, local tavernas, and opportunities for snorkelling, fishing and horse riding. The surrounding foothills are ideal for hiking, including routes to Deres, a hilltop village with traditional charm. Platanias, around 13 km away, offers more vibrant nightlife and entertainment options.
The area around Kissamos, also known as Kastelli Kissamou, is rich in history and natural beauty, with a Venetian past, olive groves, vineyards and attractive beaches like Mavros Molos. The town’s archaeological museum and old port area add cultural depth to the experience. North of Kissamos, Balos Lagoon stands out with its shallow turquoise waters and silvery sand, often compared to tropical destinations. This protected area is home to diverse wildlife, including monk seals and sea turtles, and can be accessed by boat or rough track.
Falasarna Beach, west of Kissamos, is another highlight. Known for its clear water and vast expanse of silver sand, it has been voted among Europe’s top beaches. The area also offers watersports and ancient ruins nearby. Further south, Elafonisi features distinctive pink-white sands and a shallow sandbank leading to a nature reserve island. It’s a haven for rare flora and birdlife, as well as windsurfers.
The historic city of Chania is just a 25-minute drive away, offering a lively mix of Venetian architecture, seafront dining and shopping in its cobbled streets. For nature lovers, the Samaria and Imbros Gorges provide excellent hiking opportunities, with routes that can be combined with visits to scenic beaches like Fragokastelo.

Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Hermes is fantastic for a family holiday. It is peaceful, spacious and enjoys a fabulous garden. The pool is excellent with its small shallow section for children and the games room always proves to be a big hit. The gardens are lovely with plenty of space for family games. The beaches at Tavronitis and Maleme are delightful though Tavronitis is pebbly. You will also be drawn to the famous beaches of Falasarna, Elafonisi and Balos that you see on many Crete holiday posters. The beaches are absolutely stunning and you will not forget them. Kissamos Beach is close by with several surf schools including Kalo Surf and a number of opportunities to learn to stand-up paddleboard. Also at Kissamos you can take many boat trips, either to Balos or just to enjoy swimming and snorkeling in the clear blue water.
If you’re keen to explore the local environment, you’ll come across some outstanding natural wonders. The well-known Cave of Agia Sophia near Kissamos is a remarkable sight, full of dramatic, twisted stalagmites and stalactites. The Sirikari Gorge that runs from the village of Sirikari down to Polyrrinia can be explored on a three hour walk, where you will see a wealth of beautiful plants and as well as wild animals. Another gorge, the Keramari Gorge near to near Kissamos, is the entrance to the traditional village of Milia. Active children may enjoy mountain biking or hiking in some of the gorges or the eroded, bizarre-looking hills of Komolithi.
Chania Town is a great place for families. Minoan’s World of 3D Museum and 9D Cinema is an immersive cinema where you can learn about the Minoan history while enjoying 11 effects such as earthquakes, snow and much more. The movie stars Zeus as a baby and as a God, abductions, flying too close to the sun and an eruption of the volcano in Santorini causing a devastasting tsunami that ended the Minoan era.
Aqua Creta Limnoupolis is a fun water park close to Chania. It offers extreme adventure with impressive water slides including two freefall slides, a black hole, a triple twist, a rainbow multi-slide and two giant slides. It also boasts a lazy river, a kid’s pool and an artificial island.
The cuisine in Crete is delicious and it is very easy to eat out with children. You should definitely stop at a Cretan bakery for biscuits and pastries. Loukoumades are honey drenched doughnuts that children adore!
