Conveniently located a short walking distance from the beach, Atlantica Caldera Villas is a fantastic family retreat, consisting of 7 villas of various size, in the lovely village of Platanias, 11 km west from Chania City.
This exceptional villa offers roomy accommodation for up to eight guests, providing luxurious facilities in a sophisticated environment. All bedrooms are en-suite and enjoy wonderful views over the landscaped gardens and surrounding olive and orange groves. The highlight is the half indoor/half outdoor pool, perfect for both high season and low season holidays.
Outside, there is plenty of space to chill in total relaxation, either taking refreshing dips, sunbathing, lying on one of the comfortable sunloungers or simply marvelling at the stunning surrounding scenery.
What you should know…
- You can get the occasional power cut in Crete but fortunately the Atlantica Caldera Villas benefit from their own generator which kicks in immediately if there’s an outage.
- Hiring a car is not essential but might be handy to explore the island!

Location
About the surrounding area of Caldera Villa IVPlatanias, owing its name to the river which in legendary Homer's time was called the "Lardanos", is a lively seaside resort located at just 11 km west from Chania.
If the new town bustles with waterfront bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels and incredibly sandy beaches, the hillside old part known as Ano Platanias is still steeped in history and tradition.
Together with the close by Agia Marina, this is for sure one of the most popular areas in the island, able to offer unforgettable holiday experiences to families with children, couples and groups of friends alike.
A visit to Chania, which also hosts an airport, is also recommended. The city, that has seen many civilisations come and go over thousands of years of settlement, from Minoans to Romans, Byzantine to Ottoman, this rich history has carved out a unique and mysterious town.
Most of the restaurants, museums, churches and craft shops centre around the gorgeous Venetian harbour, which represents a window into the past Turkish and Venetian architecture that has otherwise largely been destroyed by war. Watching the sunset past the old lighthouse is a truly unmissable experience, but the area offers a different picturesque aesthetic at any given time of day.
The dramatic, mountainous interior of Crete is also well worthy of exploration, remaining unspoilt and largely unchanged for hundreds of years. Incredible churches, and sleepy little villages are hidden round every bend as you wind your way across the sun baked landscape.
Be sure to sample the fresh fish they pull in from the harbour each day, or even take a boat out and do some fishing or snorkeling yourself!

How to reach Chania
There are two ways to reach Chania: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: Chania Airport (CHQ) is only a 20 minutes ride away from central Chania. During the summer months, frequents overseas and domestic flights are performed. In most of the cases, there are available buses that connect Chania city and most of the villas. You can also hire a car from one of the many rental companies at the airport, or alternatively get a taxi to bring you right to your doorstep.
By ferry: If you choose to do an island-hopping trip and use the ferry as a method of transportation, then the closest port is in Souda, only 8km from the centre of Chania. Only ferries from Piraeus in Athens or Heraklion in Crete. Heraklion port has a wider choice: you can also take a ferry from other Greek islands like Santorini, Mykonos or Paros, but you will have to take a longer bus ride to reach your villa. The villa is located in the family-friendly resort village of Platanias, only a short walking distance to the beach, bars and restaurants. There are a number of interesting day trips for kids including watersports at Agia Marina Beach, visiting the ancient ruins at Aptera and walking to the hilltop Byzantine castle that overlooks the ocean. For keen cyclists, The Hellas Bike company offers family tours on mostly flat surfaces, with fun challenges for kids to complete along the way.
For babies and toddlers, cots and high chairs are available on request and can comfortably fit in the bedrooms. The pool can also be heated on request and at additional cost.

A place to come back!
Very good place and a very beautiful house. The service was very good and hte people were friendly.

Brilliant service
We had an excellent break. We booked three days before. Tour operator was very attentive and even checked in with us during our holiday. At the villa, the welcome and service was brilliant. We had lots of space, good sized pool for a family and lots of space.

Luxurious stay
This is a quaint bungalow around 800m form the beachfront. The grounds are beautiful with very well maintained grass lawns and surrounded by farm land. The bungalow itself is luxurious and the hosts are very very responsive. During our stay it was very hot and one of the ACs died. The hosts fixed with new parts within a couple of hours. I would highly recommend!

Above and beyond
Great villa in a good location, close enough to the beach to walk and close to interesting things to do in and around chania. Emmanuel and Yannis were extremely responsive and easy to communicate with and had their property manager go above and beyond for us.

This is an amazing stay! It looks even better than the pictures. The hosts are very acommodating and they were responsive to all of our questions and requests. They even suggested some amazing excursions to us, and i highly recommend the Balos boat tour.

Relaxing and Enjoyable
The villa is set in a quiet area , just a 3 minute drive from the main strip of platinus. The villa itself was large and would be a great location for a large family or friends holiday together. We went to the local beach instead of using the pool each day, it was nice to come home for a dip after a day at the beach. The villa has pretty much everything you need on your holiday and close by is supermarkets, bars, resturants and gift shops. Relaxing and enjoyable week in the sun.

Fabulous Family Holiday
We’ve just come back from a fabulous week at Atlantica Caldera Villa. In short it’s a great place for a family friendly holiday – we were my wife and I, two kids (1 and 3) and the in-laws.
Highlights: extremely spacious, fully air-conditioned, very clean/new/easy, indoor/outdoor pool (fun for the kids), huge bedrooms (all en-suite), mid-stay cleaning (including replacement bedding and towels), when the DVD player broke it was replaced within 2 hours! Just a five minute walk to a beautiful beach (and an excellent beachside restaurant), MANY MANY restaurants to choose from. 20 minutes from Chania which is well worth seeing for the harbour area (you can also do boat trips from here which are great value and lots of fun). You’re only 30 minutes from Chania airport.
Lowlights: Make sure you’ve got an accurate location for the property as it’s not easy to find without the sat nav, if you’re looking for sea views from the terrace then this isn’t the place for you, the washing machine is in a separate neighbouring building (not an issue but worth mentioning), it hit 40 degrees during our stay!
